I had my first swim this year on Friday. It was lovely. I had bought myself a swimming hat specially, naively thinking it would keep my hair dry. It didn't, but never mind.

I also weighed myself at the gym and discovered that my body fat percentage has increased over the maximum recommended amount (although my BMI is within healthy range).

How can a sitting MP get away with misrepresenting a member of the public, let alone one of their own disaffected voters, like this? Rod Humphris told
@talkRADIO
about his own illness from Covid & that his friends lost parents to it. Not a good look to call a dissenter a “denier”

Good to see @Keir_Starmer remaining calm and calling out Covid denial. His wife's experience on the frontline is echoed by many others, it's one of pain and heartbreak.
Denying that Covid exists, or that measures don't work, is an insult to the families who have lost loved ones.

Ohnomoreno · 19/04/2021 23:18

How is disagreeing with the measures remotely similar to denying the disease exists?? Sorry but that's a load of propaganda bollocks copied right out of the flipping KGB or stasi MO.

MercyBooth · 19/04/2021 23:21

IMO the only misinformation there is that Kier is the opposition!!

Worldgonecrazy · 20/04/2021 06:15

Anyone using ONS numbers is a ‘denier’. Absolutely gas lighting, but I’m sure the complete footage of their conversation will stop being shared as it doesn’t suit the narrative.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 20/04/2021 06:40

@MercyBooth

Starmer has predictably gaslighted him and branded him a Covid denier

Thats the standard M.O isn't it? Brand anyone who questions anything a tin foil hat wearing, anti vaxxer, covid denying conspiracy theorist? Honestly makes me sick.

Wonder if he posts over there he'd fit right in.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/04/2021 07:16

I don't know how being critical of measures is insulting the bereaved.
Maybe if we acknowledge useful things like ventilation in public buildings could be improved, rather than handwringing over masks, hand sanitiser and wiping surfaces excessively, less damage can be done long term for a range of illnesses.
The trouble is that the useful measures are harder to achieve.
Too much Covid Secure Theatre does more harm than good.

It's actually theoretically possible (and there may be some principled people in this category) to agree with lockdown but still be horrified that the opposition isn't challenging the government enough.

DrRamsesEmerson · 20/04/2021 08:08

Indeed it is, @110APiccadilly. There are people who are very cautious about the virus but are incredibly critical of the lack of Parliamentary scrutiny for new legislation, the inconsistency between law and guidance and the misuse of the ‘urgent’ procedure under the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act.

Worldgonecrazy · 20/04/2021 08:11

I hope Hilary Jones is forced to issue an apology about the ‘dirty glasses’ comment. That man is such a dick.

flower11 · 20/04/2021 10:11

I know of one person in my town who has died of covid. I personally know of 2 people who have committed suicide during lockdown and know of 3 families facing terminal cancer diagnosis
because of the shut down of the NHS.
Lockdown has a lot to answer for.

My DC are back to all their sports which they love. I quite liked the calmer, quieter not rushing about evenings.

Getting fed up of judgement and criticism for things that are allowed. Went for a walk yesterday 4 of us on a semi rural wide path we were single file so not blocking or anything and a masked woman lept out of the way giving us daggers turning round to show us more of her anger. Goodness knows what she does for people actually breaking rules.

NannyGythaOgg · 20/04/2021 11:45

But but but - Kier was opposing - he was opposing the restrictions not being strong enough. We should have all been permanently under house arrest 'for our own safety'.

blobby10 · 20/04/2021 11:48

Had my first trip back to the gym this morning - it was bloody lovely to feel weights in my hands again! There were 5 of us in there at 5am and plenty of sanitizer stuff being sprayed. Not a mask to be seen which was, in itself, an equally heavenly experience.

Staying out of my family whatapp group chat where my parents and siblings are extolling the benefits of the vaccine and how 'its our duty to get vaccinated'. My interpretation of 'duty' is to stay fit and healthy and if I'm unwell, not to go to places where there are other people. I live a fairly solitary life as it is - won't matter one bit to anyone if I'm vaccinated or not! But I suspect that invitations to family events, already low, will disappear totally over the next few months which is sad but not world ending.

This.

He wanted more stricter restrictions and sooner.

This is the reason he will never get my vote.

TabbyStar · 20/04/2021 12:35

This is why Labour lost so many seats at the last election, they are dismissive of working people with the "wrong" opinions. Same with immigration. Same with sex-based rights. They don't listen to what's behind how people feel.

2 people I know died with (not of) covid. Both were in nursing homes, both had dementia although one was relatively young, only in her 70s but obviously not well.

I also lost an uncle a couple of months ago when his cancer progressed too far to be treatable due to delays. He was only in his 50s. To use a cliche from last year 'I dispair'.

Worldgonecrazy · 20/04/2021 15:17

I’m not sure that Mr Starmer realises what an arrogant arsehole he appears to be with such behaviours and presumption that the person he is talking to does not have the experience to ‘lecture’ him. Did he not, for an instant, think that a pub landlord, or his regulars, may also have relatives who have been frontline angles? Or do doctors and registrars only frequent wine bars?

ISaySteadyOn · 20/04/2021 16:12

I don't disagree with anything you say but wouldn't it be lovely if this pack ate him? amp.theguardian.com/science/2021/apr/19/tyrannosaurs-may-have-hunted-in-packs-like-wolves-new-research-has-found

SloeSummer · 20/04/2021 17:05

So impressed with Rod! I think Charles Walker and Desmond Swayne should go to that pub.

So depressing seeing lateral flow test places. I posted here when I saw signage at London Bridge. How far are we from vaccine or lateral flow to use the Tube?

SloeSummer · 20/04/2021 17:11

Anyone know what's going on in Hyde Park today? I know it's sunny but something else is going on?

dillite · 20/04/2021 17:21

I thought that I would come here to ask a question (I'm a lurker, just don't comment often).
I listened to a radio today for the first time in ages and there was an NHS ad saying that 1 in 3 people are asymptomatic spreaders and therefore we should all be staying away from everyone still. That seemed like a ridiculously high number- I don't suppose any of you know whether it's even remotely true? Everything that I have seen has stated that true asymptomatic spread is actually rather rare and nowhere near the stated 1 in 3 figure.

So they're saying that out of every 3 people with it, 2 will be symptomatic and 1 not.

Are you familiar with the work of the Zoe app? They list 20 symptoms rather than just the 3 main ones and I rather suspect that the 1 in 3 figure is actually people with symptoms, just not the cough, temp and loss of smell/taste.
However, last I read they were saying it was more like 1 in 19.

Out of everyone going for PCR tests, only 1 percent are now found to be positive. At one point there was a 20 percent positivity rate.

@SloeSummer

I just had a quick look on Twitter (not exactly the best place for news always I know!) and it seems that there is some kind of special significance of the date 4/20 for people who like to smoke cannabis. Obviously from the fact that the date is written the way it is i would guess it's an American event and the promoters have said that they are not planning one here today as people are liable to pay a £200 fine. When I saw a video of the park it just looked like a busy London park with lots of people on it (but not so crowded that people had to be cheek to cheek). Yet we still get the just wait 2 weeks nonsense
BogRollBOGOF · 20/04/2021 17:54

When I parked up for the school run, there was a flurry of hi-viz and a mobile testing van in the community car park.

We've been on 0-2 cases for about 3 weeks as have the surrounding neighbourhoods. Allowing for a trying to find a third case lurking assymptomatically in the community, there's a much higher rate of a false positive!
Doesn't strike me as an effective use of public money!

small thank you

The testing just seems like a desperate way to get numbers up.
