@BadMudda

I think if people aren't able to show any kindness or have anything nice to say, then they really, really shouldn't post. It makes me so sad how unkind some people are.
Couldn't agree more.

What a life he has seen. A shame he didn't get to 100 for a telegram from the wife.

Very sombre to hear the announcement break in on the radio and the national anthem start.

He died this morning
Can you at least get his name spelled correctly?!

Takes all sorts. Some people are just more pragmatic about death. There's room for all kinds of views.
Marmaladeagain · 09/04/2021 12:28

Very sad news. He was everything the Queen could have hope have hoped for in his role as consort and she always clearly loved him as everything she wanted in a husband. Sad news.

Ploughingthrough · 09/04/2021 12:28

Sad news for the Queen and the Royal Family. He had a good innings though.
😯 that somebody on this thread has actually blamed Meghan Markle for the death of a 99 year old...

btwwhichonespink · 09/04/2021 12:28

@Supersimkin2

He did a staggering amount of good for wildlife and the environment. Unrecognised, too.
Yep, he worked very hard indeed, and gave over his life to service but never heard him boast or lecture people like his horrible son Charles.

How sad for HM. No new Duke of Edinburgh either, now.
I’m sure I read somewhere years ago that at an appropriate point the title will be given to Prince Edward which is why he became an Earl rather than Duke when he married, as the son of the monarch it’s usual protocol to be a Duke
Sceptre86 · 09/04/2021 12:28

Sad for the Queen, shame he didn't make his 100th birthday.

BlackCatShadow · 09/04/2021 12:28

Sad to hear this, but from what I heard he was pretty determined not to have a big celebration for his 100th.

Doomsdayiscoming what a crass, idiotic comment.

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 09/04/2021 12:29

I'm actually a lot more upset by this news than I thought I'd be.

I'm glad he was at home.

I wonder what will happen with the funeral though.

Elderflower14 · 09/04/2021 12:29

RIP. My late father had the great honour of refereeing him many years when Prince Philip was carriage driving.

ShirleyPhallus · 09/04/2021 12:29

@LibertyLue

Stunned but not surprised at the nasty comments. Could people really not just scroll on by and say nothing if all they were going to say was unpleasant? No need.
It’s odd isn’t it. Imagine leading such a sad life that your first thought on someone passing away is to make sure that everyone knows how you aren’t sad at all / blame someone else for their death. Baffling.
emilyfrost · 09/04/2021 12:29

On another point - the media were obviously prepped for this judging by the huge articles and broadcasts currently going on.

@blobby10 The media are prepped for all high profile Royal deaths so they never get caught out.

I feel quite sad which has surprised me,but I think it's because this leaves the Queen vulnerable and she'll obviously be next - an event which will have unpredictable consequences on this country I feel.

I also didn't know much about his life and its been an extraordinary one it sounds, not least fighting the 2WW with most of his family on the opposing side!
RIP Prince Philip Sad

WeekendCEO · 09/04/2021 12:29

I'm not the biggest Royalist, but why do people feel the need to make disgusting comments, just say nothing!!

Many people would say that Philip himself would have benefited from that advice I suppose. 🤷🏻‍♀️

PolarnOPirate · 09/04/2021 12:29

@Kinneddar

Awww thats sad. Wonder what'll happen I regards to his funeral. Certainly won't be the one that was planned
I'm sure they've had multiple funerals planned for all of them for years.

Very sad for HM and the family. I too think that when people die at this age, they have been extremely blessed, much more so the DofE obviously. I hope HM is able to keep on going for a few years yet. I think the UK will lose a lot of respect that HM has engendered through the royalty when Charles takes over.

I’d also be interested to see what reception Harry gets when he returns for the funeral. It would be shocking if he didn’t.

YNK · 09/04/2021 12:30

Back in 1988, the duke brought up overpopulation when speaking to the German news agency Deutsche Press Agentur about reincarnation.

“In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, to contribute something to solving overpopulation,” The Telegraph quoted Philip saying at the time.

A few different versions of the quote have circulated during the coronavirus outbreak. Another published version claims the queen’s husband said: “If I were reincarnated I would wish to be returned to earth as a killer virus to lower human population levels.”

Doomsdayiscoming · 09/04/2021 12:30

Pretty funny that you thought I was serious.

Says a lot about Mumsnet really. Hmm
