@Supersimkin2

How sad for HM. No new Duke of Edinburgh either, now.
The plan is for the title to pass to Edward once an appropriate amount of time has passed. That’s why he wasn’t created a duke on his marriage.
Tupperwarelid · 09/04/2021 12:24

I feel for the Queen, I can't imagine being married for that long. I'm intrigued to see what will happen about a lying in state and the funeral given Covid restrictions.

Arbadacarba · 09/04/2021 12:24

Not a royalist, but I feel very sorry for the Queen. I formed the impression that, behind the scenes, Philip was very much her rock.

PuzzleMonkeyMum · 09/04/2021 12:25

I also feel surprisingly gutted by this even though it was expected. As a previous poster said a loss is a loss, my grandad is not far off Phillip’s age abs when he goes the devastation won’t be felt any less just because he is older.

I feel for the queen as well, 73 years of marriage. So very hard

wigjuice · 09/04/2021 12:25

I'm not the biggest Royalist, but why do people feel the need to make disgusting comments, just say nothing!! RIP Prince Phillip, and condolences to the Queen and his family.

WombatChocolate · 09/04/2021 12:25

I have a lot of respect for the Queen and I am sad for her because this will be a huge thing for her of course.

Any wife who loses her DH of so long is facing a huge loss. Poor her.

Poor old Phil. Rip.

Condolences to the family.

TokyoSushi · 09/04/2021 12:25

Such a shame

btwwhichonespink · 09/04/2021 12:25

@OrangeBlossomsinthesun best find another thread to express your nastiness. Very poor taste.

picknmix1984 · 09/04/2021 12:26

Do we get a bank holiday now?

Clawdy · 09/04/2021 12:26

He was certainly controversial, and had a very long life, but I do feel sad for the family. Not really a good time for nasty comments.

He was a very good age. My dad had had dealings him and always said he was a marvellous and funny man.

I’ll be honest, it’s made me cry because I feel for the Queen. I can’t imagine the pain of losing my DH.

Sansaplans · 09/04/2021 12:26

@Crunchymum

Such is the circle of life.

He was lucky to have lived a long, vibrant and privileged life. He was lucky to have had kids and grandchildren and great grandchildren, but like with anyone who is almost 100, I feel no great sadness or grief.

I hope the public are respectful but realistic.

I hate posts like this, why bother commenting? No one is saying he wasn't fortunate enough to have any of those things.
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/04/2021 12:26

Sad news, but not unexpected, given his recent health issues. What a blow for the Queen.

@BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand

Their report is dated 20th Feb at 21.45...

nauticant · 09/04/2021 12:26

Sad news. Listening to the report on Radio 4 about his background and childhood now. That contains a number of surprises, very interesting.

queenofarles · 09/04/2021 12:26

Sad for the Queen.

Mylittlesandwich · 09/04/2021 12:27

Can't help but feel for the queen. Anyone who's been married for that length of time really.

blobby10 · 09/04/2021 12:27

I too feel very sad for the Queen - they've been together a long time, inevitably been through a lot and he has been her rock. But I can't feel desperately sad or upset about it as he was 99 and its part of life !! Its a pity he didn't make it to 100 and get the telegram.

On another point - the media were obviously prepped for this judging by the huge articles and broadcasts currently going on.

Starlightstarbright1 · 09/04/2021 12:27

I feel incredibly sad which has really shocked me.. I usually understand it is sad for the family but had a long life..

I really don'tget upset about celebrity deaths, soap deaths so no idea why this one has bothered me so much

Supersimkin2 · 09/04/2021 12:27

He did a staggering amount of good for wildlife and the environment. Unrecognised, too.

LibertyLue · 09/04/2021 12:27

Stunned but not surprised at the nasty comments. Could people really not just scroll on by and say nothing if all they were going to say was unpleasant? No need.
