He did a staggering amount of good for wildlife and the environment. Unrecognised, too.
I know. Strange how that gets missed though. Sad for his wife and family.

Though expected it's very sad for the family, especially the Queen; no matter who you are, losing someone after 70 years of marriage will be an awful wrench

Now her "rock" is gone, I just hope the rest of them support her properly

Let's leave Meghan and Harry out of this! I don't think he will come over for the funeral as it won't be a big affair anyway?
It is sad news for them though.

Such a shame he didn’t reach his 100th birthday in June. Very sad.
When the Queen Mother turned 100, he expressed horror at the prospect of living that long himself.

Even last year he was said to not want a fuss made of his 100th. Maybe he even felt he wouldn’t make it, and didn’t want planning wasted?

So I think he got his wish, actually.

To die peacefully in your sleep at 99 is as good as any of us can hope for.

I do feel sorry for the Queen, she has lost a companion.

Hopefully Harry will be ''Allowed'' to go to the Funeral, to visit his grandmother in her hour of need.

The Prime Minister has just delivered a fitting statement outside No.10. I was disappointed but not surprised to see he hadn't combed his hair for the occasion. His own 'Michael Foot' moment Shock.

I saw a post on Facebook and teared up. I wasn't expecting to feel this sad about it (although I partly blame that on my mental state over the past few weeks.) I can't imagine how hard this is going to be for Queen Elizabeth, she's been with him for so long. Sad

Very sad news. Echoing what other posters have said, it's hard to imagine the pain of losing a partner after so many years of marriage.
