At least he died at home rather than in hospital. I’m sure he had a lot of love and company in the last few weeks of his life

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 09/04/2021 12:20

Lived to 99, so didn't quite get his telegram from the queen.

It's sad for the family when someone dies, but I don't think Prince Phillip dying at 99 after a long, generally healthy, and very privileged life is particularly tragic for anyone beyond his nearest and dearest.

Bouledeneige · 09/04/2021 12:20

I wonder if Harry will come back for the funeral?

the80sweregreat · 09/04/2021 12:20

My dad was 98 when he died from covid.
He used to like the Duke and all his various ' gaffs' ! He was a controversial figure at times.
It's sad whatever age they are, but he had a long life and I think they were happy together.
End of an era.

ShirleyPhallus · 09/04/2021 12:21

What sad news, I really feel for the queen. What longtime companions they’ve been

I bet he won't!
Jurassicperk · 09/04/2021 12:21

It's sad when anyone dies but I can't bring myself to be that bothered.
He'll have died in luxury and comfort. Same can't be said for the poor, homeless or hungry in this country.

Sarahlou63 · 09/04/2021 12:21

The Guardian had obviously been prepared for some time...

Prince Philip has died

Very Sad for the Queen..he really was her rock💕

Supersimkin2 · 09/04/2021 12:22

How sad for HM. No new Duke of Edinburgh either, now.

OppsUpsSide · 09/04/2021 12:22

Bless them, feel for the Queen and all of them. There was a thread here recently that talked about occasions people met him and how lovely he was.

btwwhichonespink · 09/04/2021 12:22

Sad news for the nation. He has had a wonderful, long life but still so sad.

Damnloginpopup · 09/04/2021 12:22

Duty done.

MargosKaftan · 09/04/2021 12:23

The Queen clearly loved him, poor woman.

Will they be able to do a big funeral for him?

BadMudda · 09/04/2021 12:23

I think if people aren't able to show any kindness or have anything nice to say, then they really, really shouldn't post. It makes me so sad how unkind some people are.

SoupDragon · 09/04/2021 12:23

Oh.... 🙁

BJHair · 09/04/2021 12:23

I’m waiting for the press to say it’s MM fault

This. I feel for the Queen and his family but otherwise can’t get terribly excited about it tbh.

HandsIntoTheFire · 09/04/2021 12:23

Aww it’s so sad for the Queen. I guess he must have come home from hospital to die at home (obviously pure speculation).

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 09/04/2021 12:23

I don't know why everyone wanted him to get to 100, he obviously was quite sick these past few months and it may indeed be a blessing for him not to go on, given that he was in hospital so long, not able to have that many visitors, he was at home for his death. Just seems funny to be going on about him not getting to 100 when he was 99 which is a pretty darn good age and when living on would undoubtedly have been very difficult for him. There's nothing magic about being very very old and decrepit.

someoneiou · 09/04/2021 12:23

Very sad, especially as he was so close to reaching 100.

But 99 years living an incredibly privileged life is good going.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 09/04/2021 12:23

All the papers have pre-written obituaries for major public figures. The BBC too.

This isn't a surprise, surely?

He did have a privileged life , but not at first.
Still, it is always sad when anyone passes away.

GreenHairThingy · 09/04/2021 12:24

When he went into hospital the other month (just before the interview) Harry was self isolating in preparation for returning to the UK should it be needed.

Harry will return because regardless of his issues with his dad and brother, he has a great respect for his grandma.
