He died this morning

And yes Roussette, he does come across as a gentle quiet soul.

Roussette · 11/04/2021 13:14

Marmalade There really is no need to 'spell it out' for me. It does you no favours, and just makes you look patronising and condescending because I won't even read what you have written, given I have a brain and can make my own judgements.

Marmaladeagain · 11/04/2021 13:20

Oh so you do get the difference then. Phew, that's good perhaps you may not need to say ANDREW every time someone says Harry then.

Roussette · 11/04/2021 13:21

I'll say Andrew as much as I want. There's no thread police AFAIC.

picknmix1984 · 11/04/2021 13:22

Story about his gaffs in the paper. Most of them I totally get and made me laugh. His racist ones less so.

Marmaladeagain · 11/04/2021 13:34

sarcasm - was never under any doubt that "what about Andrew" will continue to be mentioned no matter how irrelevant it is. Also, no matter how many times everyone says they do NOT support Andrew.

Why give up the tick of saying "what about Andrew" believing they're being a "kind" person for noticing that Harry hasn't acted as appallingly as Andrew. Damn Harry with that faint praise.

The upset about H not wearing military uniform and thinking it is just a stick to beat him with by the RF shows clearly where the ill-informed confusion stems from on RF/political events. Sorry I know that sounds condescending, but hey ho.

Roussette · 11/04/2021 13:45

At least you own that you're condescending, that's good in my book. Thanks.
There are views other than yours you know. You're not the official 'MN Royal and Political expert'. You're just another random on the internet with an opinion. The same as all of us. Hope that's not too condescending from me Grin

Lockdownbear · 11/04/2021 13:45

I do think Edward was in a very difficult position, few options are open to the RF. I remember he was basically shamed for walking away.

Marmaladeagain · 11/04/2021 13:57

no thanks are required, I'm always more than happy to oblige.

I have enjoyed finding out more about Philip's younger years when he spoke at dinners etc and there is a great deal of history both he and the Queen were part of.

This made me laugh yesterday:
"The more stories I read about Prince Phillip, the more I think what a hilarious, cheeky, playful man worthy of admiration.

And that's just the stories from his critics."

ImpatiensI · 11/04/2021 14:16

😂 Sounds like they caught him well in The Crown

RickiTarr · 11/04/2021 14:40

I thought we absolutely exhausted the Andrew topic the other day to humour the “whatabaouts”?

Can someone just start a thread about Andrew to repeat the same agreed opinions on ad infinitum? It would be better than this constant ridiculousness.

Janegrey333 · 11/04/2021 15:10

The exile is due to wear a suit to the funeral, apparently. He has, after all, been stripped of his right to do so. Can’t have one foot in and one foot out after all. Apparently his uncle, Prince Andrew, will also be in a suit - for obvious reasons.

Janegrey333 · 11/04/2021 15:23

Edit:

...of his right to wear uniform...

Ocsetldil · 11/04/2021 15:44

Jane, you haven’t read the last 4 pages have you?

Ocsetldil · 11/04/2021 15:47

I bought a book in the Sandringham gift shop written by a former member of staff. A footman took supper up on a tray to Prince Edward’s Buckingham Palace apartments when he was home in leave from the Marines. Edward was flaked out in the sofa and apparently his socks were covered in blood. He left shortly afterwards.

Lauren15 · 11/04/2021 15:52

My neighbour is an ex marine and his son is currently training to prepare for the selection process. They are both super fit. My neighbour has taken boys out to train to give them an idea what’s involved. Most of them change their minds after that. Only very few people are cut out for it. Edward was almost shamed in the press and made out to be a failure IIRC. I do feel sorry for him in that respect.

@cyclingmad

Lol why cant you just use my username instead of acting childish and labelling me a witchfinder.

Did I say its wrong for anyone else to describe people by the colour of their skin? Tell me where I said that. Where did I say its offensive to describe your husband as black?

I'm am only speaking for myself that I haven't personally ever had to. And so what if I hadn't? What's its to you?

Being Indian, I've been on the receiving end of lots of racists comments so I have firsthand experience of what it feels like. I've also seen how other people have spoken about my skin colour, if I'm darker skinned and not fair skinned.

Maybe just maybe I dont use skin colour to describe people because other features like height or what a person is wearing is a better way to describe someone to whoever it is in describing them to.

I'm hardly going to say hey Emily is the black girl at the bar, if there are 3 black women at the bar. Who would know which one she was? Whereas Emily is the tall one at the bar in a red dress, is far more obvious.

So why don't you just back off

Yes of course, mentioning the colour of someone's eyes is by far the more obvious thing to do. Hope they aren't wearing sunglasses.
Ocsetldil · 11/04/2021 16:34

Fair point Handsoff

On another note, it looks as though Sophie hasn’t stopped crying since Friday morning. Bless her. And apparently Louise took out the Duke’s carriage ponies for a spin on Friday. I think the Wessexes are a much under-rated family.

I agree. He quietly does the most public engagements of all of them and has taken over the DoE awards. It’s no accident that he’s going to get the title of DoE when the Queen dies.

Me too, anyone is entitled to change their mind. It takes some people longer to others to find their niche but they push doors and give things a try.

It was a long time ago anyway.

cyclingmad · 11/04/2021 17:08

@ancientgran

I didnt just say eye colour did I, I said height clothes, hair colour too. Don't just pick out one thing and use it out of context.

End of the day I cns choose how o wish to describe a person, you just don't like it and somehow find if offensive that I choose not to pick skin colour to describe someone.

Lol honestly your coming across batshit crazy.

Lauren15 · 11/04/2021 17:15

I remember when Sophie came to the end of her DofE cycle ride at Buckingham palace and the family were there to greet her. They looked so pleased to be reunited. I think she’s probably my favourite royal, partly because she screwed up but had the humility to own it and try to redeem herself.

HyypocriteHunter · 11/04/2021 17:15

Lol?

Anyhoo.

Bit of the pot calling the kettle ... ahem... blue eyed there I feel...

And still chucking stones as well...

HyypocriteHunter · 11/04/2021 17:16

Aye Lauren. I think they’ve been a credit to the RF.
