Lighthearted, give me your unpopular opinions.

I can start;

The musical Hamilton and Star Wars are over rated.

I agree about the pets it doesnt matter to me how much my cat cost over the years she was part of my family

Housewives owe working mums a huge debt we demonstrate employment & careers. It’s us your kids meet at careers days,us your kids meet when they come to the workplace. Housewives can’t reliably or accurately describe working because you don’t do it. Don’t bother with all that used to be a manager, public sector, corporate because you’re not doing it now. You’ve delegated that task

I've been a SAHM and a working mum and actually I think they're mutually beneficial to each other.
I volunteered at a toddler group when my DC were little that was attended by DC of working parents (with a childminder or nanny). I did all sorts of messy crafts that lots of parents (working or SAH) either might not want to do, have space to do or wouldnt have the materials to do in their own home!! Wink I was available to help with school craft , projects etc, when helping was needed. But I was obviously v grateful to the working mums that were the drs, nurses, teachers etc for my kids.

Then as a working parent I was very grateful to the SAHM who occassionally had to pick up my DS at short notice if I was unexpectedly held up at work, or on a train. They tended to be the ones who could help at school on a regular basis with reading, going on school trips etc.

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee from one working mum to another, what a load of shit. 🤣 I actually feel embarrassed for you having written such a load of bollocks.

Going on holiday is often more hassle than it's worth. It's not relaxing if you have small children.

My idea of a REAL holiday was for DH to f*ck off with the kids and a tent, and leave me in the house for a week with the dogs.

Sheer, bloody unadulterated bliss!

First day - went through house like a dose of salts, then . . .

I used go to bed early every night with six terriers, the radio and a book, a cup of tea and a packet of biscuits. There was hardly anything to do during the day because there was no mess!

Days were dog walking and eating beans on toast, eggs on toast, cheese on toast - anything that needed next to no preparation or imagination, really - I have an impressive toast cuisine.

I'm not saying it wasn't lovely to get them all back - it was - but OH! The JOY of a week thinking of no-one but myself . . .

Sorry - didn't intend to quote Handbags post (I don't agree with her, BTW)

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

Thankfully she’s scurried off it would seem

Probably has some young minds to mould, Salary.

Noisy eaters should be knee capped
Adele is shite
Gin tastes horrible
Beyoncé’s voice is awful

ViciousJackdaw · 30/03/2021 23:51

New order are fucking awful. Over rated over played monotone drivel

New Order are my favourite band, I've loved them for 30 years! Why get aeriated though? These are just opinions. They are not facts. There is absolutely no point in taking them personally, one person's likes and dislikes are not some kind of judgement on your own preferences.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 31/03/2021 04:05

Grey is a depressing colour. Covering your house in Farrow and Ball Elephant Fart makes it look like the interior of a middle eastern prison.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/03/2021 06:09

Stepfamily situations are usually created for the own selfish wants of the adults and are very rarely "great" for the kids despite what the adults try to kid themselves.

Gin and wine are disgusting.

Spa days are great and I love them. (Unpopular opinion on Mumsnet).

I don't care if someone doesn't want to work and spends their whole life on benefits. It's not an enviable lifestyle and I just feel sorry for them.

Pets are just a big hassle. My parents have a dog and every time they want to go on holiday or away for a weekend they have to worry about who is going to look after the dog. No thanks.

FoxyTheFox · 31/03/2021 08:47

Spa days are great and I love them. (Unpopular opinion on Mumsnet).

After a year of more or less 24/7 parenting and homeschooling, including two DC with additional needs, as well as all the general stress of living through a major historical event I cannot bloody wait for the spa to reopen. I love a spa day. I lie around the pool in a fluffy dressing gown, I go in the sauna, I have a swim, I have a steam, I get a massage, a facial, and a mani-pedi. I read my book. I eat nice food. No one calls me mum, no one asks me to wipe their bottom, no one demands anything of me, no one even speaks to me at all unless necessary. It is bliss. I come home feeling like a floppy noodle, I'm so relaxed.

Same. It must be so stressful knowing they'll lose money when their DC get older or that everything could be taken away based on the whims of the government of the day. I also know there are some people who live such chaotic lives that the chaos itself is a barrier to living a typical life and holding down a job. They need help, not punishment.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 31/03/2021 08:50

‘I have 3 kids from previous relationship, I just started dating someone a few months ago and have just found out I’m unexpectedly pregnant

Having unprotected sex is trying for a baby. End of story. No ifs buts or maybes.

Why do some adults have the understanding of a 15 year old kid when it comes to contraception. As in, 'ooh, I don't know how that happened.' Regarding unexpected pregnancy.

We had been having sex without contraception now I'm pregnant. Total surprise. Apparently.

What planet are these people on ?

fucknuckle · 31/03/2021 09:31

the film Bohemian Rhapsody is excruciatingly terrible. Freddie Mercury comes off like John Inman trying to talk round giant wooden teeth and the other band members are basically Les McQueen from the League of Gentlemen. all of which is admittedly academic as the band Queen themselves are overrated, middle of the road shite.

Rocketman is vastly superior.

John Lennon wasn’t an advocate of universal love and equality. he was a wife-beater who abandoned his first child and spent his life in the pursuit of his own happiness, regardless of the detriment of others.

Adele sings in the Club Style from Reeves and Mortimer’s Big Night Out. ‘SKYFOWWWWWWW’ ‘ROH’IN INDE DEEEEEEEEEEB’ etc. horrid.

also, olives are a conspiracy of middle class people pretending to like them.

and Nick Knowles looks like he steals horses.

Sausageroll67 · 31/03/2021 09:57

@MrsMariaReynolds

Most people have children because it is a societal expectation or a by-product of sex, not because they genuinely want (or like) them.
Absolutely this!

I'm not sure what to make of this but it's made me properly laugh for the first time in ages. Grin

On a related note... Adele was far more attractive before she lost the weight. I know she was told to lose it for health reasons, but imho she's gone too far and now looks scrawny.

IME people often lose too much weight, and then expect everyone to tell them how fantastic they look. I sit there mute or just mutter something like 'well done, that must have been hard work', because there's no polite way to tell someone they now resemble a punctured balloon, and also because personally I think it's insulting to gush over someone's weight loss. 'Look at you! Have you lost we-eight? Clever girl! (well, probably 'girl' because let's face it, it's usually women who are spoken to like this) Let's completely ignore all your accomplishments in life and work, yesyes never mind your PhD/promotion/sporting or creative achievement, you're so clever for making part of yourself disappear! Now you don't take up so much space in the world! Way more socially acceptable.'

fucknuckle · 31/03/2021 12:05

i agree re Adele’s weight loss. although i’m very glad to see the back of those weird tapestry dresses.

on a related note, what does one actually DO at an Adele concert? is it just a big singalong? what about the sad, slow ones - do you just watch politely?

ItsALovelyDayToday · 31/03/2021 12:12

Smoking weed (in moderation) is no more or less “bad” than drinking alcohol and it should be legalised so that criminals don’t get to profit from it.

School uniform is a hideous concept and should have gone out with the Ark.
