Food you love but can't get any more

Let me lead with the Waitrose pecorino and back dip. They've discontinued it and I have no idea why. I have been whingeing about it for two years now why would you discontinue such a popular product ?

I am just hoping the pork and iberico chorizo sausage rolls, also from waitrose, don't go the same way. It's been ages since I've seen them on the shelves.

Not only is it lockdown with nowt eke to think about but for, but I'm on a calorie controlled diet atm trying to get back in my dinner clothes before the weather warns up! All I can think about is eating.

What foods do you miss? Have they been discontinued? Can you only get them in a location you can't access? Are you trying to lose the lockdown lbs? Please make me feel better about being an obsessive foodie by joining me!

Waitrose used to sell chocolate and salted caramel shortbread which came in a pack of 4. They were round, sandwich like biscuits with salted caramel buttercream filling. Soooo good and sooooo sad they’re gone :(

DuvetNPillow · 28/03/2021 17:33

B&J’s The Full Vermonty. The only B&J flavour I’ve ever liked. It was a caramel ice cream with caramel swirls and pralines/sugar coated pecans. Like Haagen Daz Pralines & Cream but 10x better. So delicious .

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference salmon tortelloni. I craved it when I was pregnant with DC2 in 2007, but it disappeared not long afterwards.

Tesco potato balls from the frozen section. Little crispy balls with mashed potato filling. Lived on them at uni.

Safeway’s breakfast yoghurts from the 80s. Vanilla flavoured yoghurt with cereal and dried fruity bits in it. Sugary but delicious.

@WellJuhnelle

Middle bacon. Back doesn’t have enough fat and streaky has too much - middle just makes the perfect bacon sandwich but it must be out of fashion as I can’t even get it at my butchers anymore
You need to move to Australia! Middle bacon everywhere.

Mine used to be prawn cocktail and salt and vinegar quavers. I use to whinge about their loss all the time. Someone was listening because they have brought them back and they are as delicious as i remember. So thats me happy!!

shinynewapple21 · 28/03/2021 17:37

@Coniferhedge I used to love toffee and mallow eggs

@Buggerthebotox the liberte yogurt you miss - was that the 4 pack with fruit on the bottom, as they still sell this at Sainsbury's.

I miss fruit fromage frais, both the low fat fruit flavoured and also the WW ones with the separate fruit flavour on the bottom.

@GoryGilmore I also used to like innocent veg pots . Bol do some very similar

Agree with the posters saying the Lyons cupcakes with the chocolate or citrus toppings . So much nicer than the cup cakes you get nowadays .

Some veggie ready meals I liked from Tesco . Some years back a Vegetarian moussaka and more recently a pie with a roast mushroom filling .

Peachee · 28/03/2021 17:38

Ventura chocolate bars - they were lovely please tell me there are others that remember them.

LadyJaye · 28/03/2021 17:54

Quorn gammon steaks. Haven't seen them for a couple of years and I am sad, because they were delicious with tinned pineapple, chips and peas for a fabulous retro tea.

LadyJaye · 28/03/2021 17:57

@AnaofBroceliande

Irn Bru without fucking sweeteners.
They've started selling 'proper' Irn Bru in Scotland again!

Admittedly it's about three times the price and you can only get it in 75cl glass bottles, but nothing sees off a hangover like real Bru. Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/03/2021 18:01

Rowan Glen plain Greek yoghurt.
I've tried every brand but this is the best, it's disappeared, only the honey one is left.

tiredoftiers · 28/03/2021 18:02

I thought that sugar irn bru they are selling is missing caffeine. If it is like the stuff they destroyed by adding sweeteners a couple years ago I’m off to buy some Grin

TalesTheCat · 28/03/2021 18:13

You can get the glass bottle original irn bru in my town in England tho probably because of the huge Scottish population

bluelemming · 28/03/2021 18:13

@bumblenbean

Porkinsons sausages. So good. Also Cadbury’s Nuts About Caramel ... why oh why did they discontinue them?!
Yes! I was going to say Porkinson's sausages too. I loved them. I wonder why they were discontinued?
FunnyWonder · 28/03/2021 18:15

Back when Quorn used to have a flavour, there were chicken style fillets with white wine and mushroom sauce. They were delicious. There was a red wine version too I think (or I might have imagined that!) I'm not sure if they were exclusive to one supermarket.

Tesco vegetable grills, which became Tesco vegetable burgers, then ... poof! ... they were gone.

TalesTheCat · 28/03/2021 18:17

For DH it's ham flavour mini cheddars and guylian chocolate truffles.
For me prawn cocktail wotsits.
I would say salt and vinegar and prawn cocktail quavers but they have just been re-released 🙂🙂

McDonalds sundaes! I loved the fudge one and the caramel one. So much better than McFlurry’s.
Longingforatikihut · 28/03/2021 18:23

Boddingtons and pickle cheddar. It's been 20 years but I still long for it.

Because of one of the Marvel films I know Entenmanns is still for sale just not in this country. Can be imported from Ebay.

vixeyann · 28/03/2021 18:30

All chocolate related: Fuse bars, Spira and United bars I used to have as a kid - biscuit and chocolate covered :)

OhWhyNot · 28/03/2021 18:31

Entenmanns chocolate fudge cake is still sold in the US it’s the equivalent of Mr Kipling cakes

Agree it’s good especially heated up in the microwave

Witchesbelazy · 28/03/2021 18:34

White chocolate malteasers I’ve tried Poundland’s own no good and the truffles are ok but not quite the same

HappyThursdays · 28/03/2021 18:34

@Stratfordplace

Ben and Jerry’s Chunky Monkey and well as cherry Garcia
You must have the same taste buds as me! I'm trialling making chunky monkey today as apparently if you freeze bananas in slices and then blend them, it makes a great banana ice cream

Other thing I look for every Xmas is the Festive Pie from McDonalds. It's like the apple pie but filled with mince pie filling and then custard in the top of the pie Grin

HappyThursdays · 28/03/2021 18:34

It hasn't been back for years!

Etherealhedgehog · 28/03/2021 18:37

Marshmallow filled chocolate eggs. Also, a number of products that are standard in the US and used to be here but are now only available at great expense in the world food section/specialty stores - original Cheerios (oat flavor, in a yellow box), Lucky Charms (mmmmm) and pickle relish - the best add-in for tuna mayo. I chop up dill pickles instead, when I can be arsed, but it's not the same

RUOKHon · 28/03/2021 18:41

I can’t find chocolate Nesquik anywhere lately. Has it just vanished or is it a Brexit thing?
