Food you love but can't get any more

Let me lead with the Waitrose pecorino and back dip. They've discontinued it and I have no idea why. I have been whingeing about it for two years now why would you discontinue such a popular product ?

I am just hoping the pork and iberico chorizo sausage rolls, also from waitrose, don't go the same way. It's been ages since I've seen them on the shelves.

Not only is it lockdown with nowt eke to think about but for, but I'm on a calorie controlled diet atm trying to get back in my dinner clothes before the weather warns up! All I can think about is eating.

What foods do you miss? Have they been discontinued? Can you only get them in a location you can't access? Are you trying to lose the lockdown lbs? Please make me feel better about being an obsessive foodie by joining me!

Domino's pizza use to do a hanky panky pie type cheese cake. This was back in 2003ish. It was delicious. I was so sad when they stopped doing it.

Remona · 28/03/2021 22:20

Tangy/Worcestershire sauce Twiglets. They were gorgeous.

Riley’s (later Callard and Bowser) Toffee Rolls.

userxx · 28/03/2021 22:21

@gurglebelly The Aldi melt in the middle fishcakes are lovely. Never tried the M&S ones so can't compare.

Sidewalksue · 28/03/2021 22:25

I came on to say the standard -Spira. But someone mentioned those minty eggs and yes I want those.
I also remember peach Angel Delight.

They are forever getting rid of things that are gluten free, just when you get used to buying them they disappear.

Timeisavirtue · 28/03/2021 22:29

Years ago m& s did this frozen pasta that had like broccoli, peas etc and it tasted amazing...
Also entermanns chocolate fudge cake, you could only get it from sainsburys but it was the best chocolate cake ever.

Timeisavirtue · 28/03/2021 22:29

Worcestershire sauce twiglets... they were elite 🤪

LeeluTheNarwhal · 28/03/2021 22:32

Snow flake and Fuse bars

Ever since the sugar tax a lot of drinks I liked have ended up full of sweeteners which I can't have.

Dr Pepper is one I really liked and proper Irn Bru. The 1901 one is the best I'll get now, it's good but just not quite the same. I also really liked Rubicon Mango in a can until they unexpectedly added sweeteners to it.

I miss normal clear lemonade too, even before the sugar tax they all had some sort of sweetener. I eventually found the Fever Tree one which is really nice but it's sharper than the cheaper style lemonade.

spikeyfish · 28/03/2021 22:33

The pizza express Hawaiian pizza Iceland used to sell and Cadbury fuse bars!

Tangledtresses · 28/03/2021 22:40

@Gotthetshirt23

Mignons morceaux or something like that !
God I remember them!!! Tiny little baguettes with a garlic butter thang on them 😀
Titsywoo · 28/03/2021 22:41

Cauldron Mushroom Burgers - they were delicious

Tesco used to do this amazing steak with cream cheese, sundried tomato and pesto on the top that melted all over it when you cooked it - I tried to make it myself but it wasn't the same - it was low calorie and I ate it several times a week when I was dieting

Skinny cow chocolate lollies - they still do the mint ones but they are gross

FlyingFlamingo · 28/03/2021 22:43

@DuvetNPillow Tesco are selling frozen potato balls again, and the ones from Lidl during their ‘French week’ are even nicer. I had a bag stashed in the freezer and dh and the dds helped themselves earlier whilst I was at work Angry

Discovery (I’m not even sure they still exist) used to make ‘New York style’ pasta sauces in a jar - the spicy cheese one was delicious.

Yes to pp who mentioned pasta n sauce mushroom and wine, and Heinz bean pizza. Frozen wotsits were of the same era and sadly no more. I also miss bacon wotsits, and crunchy fries. Also cheese crispy pancakes - Iceland have recently relaunched crispy pancakes but the cheese one is mozzarella and tomato - I’m sorry but mozzarella is too posh for a crispy pancake Grin

@littleredsky

Heinz baked bean pizza Blush

Tangledtresses · 28/03/2021 22:46

@RoseMartha

Ski orange yoghurt
Do you remember hazelnut ski yogurt ? Loved it
CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 28/03/2021 22:47

Piglet Baked Bean flavour puffs. Went extinct in the late 70s.

Safeway curried aubergine dip. Have never forgiven Morrison’s for taking over (and taking that beautiful, unctuous ambrosia away).

Proper Cadbury’s chocolate. Bastarding Monsanto.

Toottootdrivers · 28/03/2021 22:48

Salt and vinegar quavers

Wouldlovetobeinthesun · 28/03/2021 22:48

Walkers beetroot and chilli low fat crisps. Finally found some crisps I loved and then couldn't get them anymore.

LakeFlyPie · 28/03/2021 22:50

Lean Cuisine Zucchini lasagne. Hadn't thought about those for 25 years (or so) but now you ask, I have missed them. Clearly not too much Grin they were good though with the slightly chewy cheesy topping

partyatthepalace · 28/03/2021 22:52

Pret - egg florentine sandwich - egg, Parmesan, spinach with seedy bread. Actually they also did a ham and egg one on the same bread.
Both delicious and less wet than their current ones.

Sparkesy · 28/03/2021 22:54

M&S Rosie Noses, deliciously soft pillowy sweets in the Percy Pig range. Yum yum. Sadly missed.

Chocciebiscuit · 28/03/2021 22:55

M&s Baked potato & butter flavour crisps
Waitrose poppy knot rolls from bakery counter
Also what has happened to kitkats they don’t taste good anymore (chocolate tastes cheap/horrible) or is it my taste buds?!

Chocciebiscuit · 28/03/2021 22:57

Oh and Bicks tomato burger relish and the sweetcorn version, my 1980’s childhood bbq’s were incomplete without them on burgers/hot dogs.

partyatthepalace · 28/03/2021 22:57

Oh and twinnings Lemon trio tea - it was DELICIOUS- the only nice fruit tea ever.

Afonavon · 28/03/2021 23:01

@DuvetNPillow

B&J’s The Full Vermonty. The only B&J flavour I’ve ever liked. It was a caramel ice cream with caramel swirls and pralines/sugar coated pecans. Like Haagen Daz Pralines & Cream but 10x better. So delicious .

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference salmon tortelloni. I craved it when I was pregnant with DC2 in 2007, but it disappeared not long afterwards.

Tesco potato balls from the frozen section. Little crispy balls with mashed potato filling. Lived on them at uni.

Safeway’s breakfast yoghurts from the 80s. Vanilla flavoured yoghurt with cereal and dried fruity bits in it. Sugary but delicious.

Re the little potato balls, during France month in Lidl there are bags of frozen noisette potatoes, which sound exactly like this. My children love them. Sadly they only appear Every so often.
Afonavon · 28/03/2021 23:02

Tomato (sauce?) wotsits

Poppyliveshere · 28/03/2021 23:06

@Coniferhedge

At this time of year, Toffee & Mallow eggs. They were like Creme Eggs, but one half was filled with caramel, the other with marshmallow. I absolutely loved them but not seen them for years.
Oooh yes, I loved toffee and mallow eggs Grin
