Food you love but can't get any more

Let me lead with the Waitrose pecorino and back dip. They've discontinued it and I have no idea why. I have been whingeing about it for two years now why would you discontinue such a popular product ?

I am just hoping the pork and iberico chorizo sausage rolls, also from waitrose, don't go the same way. It's been ages since I've seen them on the shelves.

Not only is it lockdown with nowt eke to think about but for, but I'm on a calorie controlled diet atm trying to get back in my dinner clothes before the weather warns up! All I can think about is eating.

What foods do you miss? Have they been discontinued? Can you only get them in a location you can't access? Are you trying to lose the lockdown lbs? Please make me feel better about being an obsessive foodie by joining me!

@bringonyourwreckingball

Mignon morceaux and Sara Lee pecan danish. Would pay good money to have those again
Oh yes. Both. 😩
DemonicEruption · 28/03/2021 19:11

I had forgotten about Lyons cupcakes until I saw it mentioned here, they were so nice! I remember Fabulous Bakin' Boys did something similar for a while. They also did these nice raspberry flapjack bars and cake bars that I used to have in my packed lunch at school. Miss them.

Sunny Delight! Not the watered down squash-like rubbish that's in the shops now. I'm talking the full of sugar loaded with e numbers stuff that I believe was changed because some kid turned orange after drinking too much of it?

I don't know if this is still made anywhere, but the Bakery brand in Co-Op (Gatsbys?) used to do this amazing massive lemon swiss roll when I was younger. Reminds me of going to my Grandma's so would love to taste that again.

Cherrysoup · 28/03/2021 19:12

@Evergiven frozen in mint gravy? We get those from Tesco/Sainsbury regularly.

sansucre · 28/03/2021 19:13

Chocolate blancmange-like dessert - M&S circa 1980s
Vanilla & chocolate panna cotta - Tesco
Chocolate chip loaf cake - Waitrose
Brooklyn Blackout cake - Hummingbird Bakery
Southern fish curry - Busaba
Fish finger wrap - Leon (their fish burger just isn't the same)
Tuna fish and green bean sandwich - Aroma
Chocolate chip shortbread - Fortnum & Mason

Pear yoghurt. In any form. It's my treat if in France. Why do the French have such great yoghurts and we get Muller lights.....

longdressed · 28/03/2021 19:14

Sensations Vintage Cheddar and Onion Chutney Crisps... not sure if they're discontinued but you can't get them anymore in any of the supermarkets near me! They were the best ones by far!

TalkingIntoTheEther · 28/03/2021 19:14

Oh yes to the original sunny delight, and likewise the original Mountain Dew, pure sugary E number ladened trash but so good!

Chunkymenrock · 28/03/2021 19:14

Cheese Moments. Cream cheese NikNacks.

sansucre · 28/03/2021 19:14

YY to Lyons chocolate cupcakes. My dad always kept a massive stash of those!

karala · 28/03/2021 19:14

Sacla used to do a stir through mushroom thing for pasta - they stopped doing it about 2001 and I have never forgiven them

ReachedTheEndofCake · 28/03/2021 19:15

@Sunbird24

Absolutely Sara Lee Pecan Danish, i would love this to make a come back.

Also “From Russia with Buzz” Ben & Jerry’s, chocolate and coffee - was the best thing ever, but can never find it.

Cherrysoup · 28/03/2021 19:16

@dottiedaisee broccoli and Stilton soup-Asda, it’s one of my go tos for lunch at work, narrowly beaten by the Sainsbury potato and leek.

EternalOptimist7 · 28/03/2021 19:20

Baxter’s soups can be hard to get hold of - I absolutely love the Sri Lankan Sweet Potato so when Aldi got some in, I bought loads.

sueelleker · 28/03/2021 19:21

Amazon sell a Baxters cucumber and dill relish.

TH22 · 28/03/2021 19:21

Whispa Mint!

fussychica · 28/03/2021 19:22

dottiedaisee I've recently eaten a Broccoli and Stilton soup from the freezer. It was from Morrison's so assume they still sell it.

DragonPoop · 28/03/2021 19:26

O I also forgot about 10 years ago Morrison’s used to do a frozen vegetarian microwave meal - farfalle pasta in a creamy mushroom sauce with spinach in. It was beautiful!

user1476277375 · 28/03/2021 19:28

Sainsburys version is almost identical to the original Special K

Bouledeneige · 28/03/2021 19:35

I really loved an M&S gastropub meal which was meatballs in tomato sauce with saute potatoes. It was yum.

I still can get a butterscotch instant whip from time to time - I think it was a Tesco own brand - but I haven't looked recently.

Stratfordplace · 28/03/2021 19:38

M&S pecan pie and Ski yoghurts especially pineapple and their hazelnut one

LadySlipper · 28/03/2021 19:38

Chocolate covered rich tea biscuits!!!

and M&S farmhouse pate.

Springcleanforthemayqueen · 28/03/2021 19:41

Lidl triangular high protein rolls. Not strictly low carb, but a step in the right direction and tasty and substantial.
Phileas Fogg original tortilla chips. Think they were oval shaped.
Burger King spicy beanburgers. I'm a carnivore but they were my absolute favourite and we always had them in the station Burger King when we went to Glasgow for a gig.
Birds Eye Vegetable Rice. Frozen rice with onions, mushrooms and peas. I still crave it so I make my own.
And Cachous sweets that you got from the chemist. Breath fresheners allegedly (whilst simultaneously rotting your teeth)

KikoMiko · 28/03/2021 19:49

M&S three bean salad back in the late 80s. None of the modern supermarket ones are the same. Also M&S egg and prawn roll.

UnderCaffeinated · 28/03/2021 19:50

@Totallydefeated

Sainsburys’s Taste the Difference Italian style pork and beef meatballs. They were just delicious, richly savoury with a hit of fennel, and so moreish. They were a real cut above the usual standard of ready made supermarket meatballs and you couldn’t buy anything similar elsewhere. Often they were the reason I did a whole weekly shop at Sainsburys instead of Waitrose or Ocado.

Then they stopped doing them, and now just offer bog standard boring bland beef ones instead, that are identical to all the other meatballs offered by all the other supermarkets 🤷‍♀️

No reason for me to shop at Sainsbury’s anymore!

These were our favourite too, with their delicious fennel hint and great texture, we loved them, so sad when they left.

My others are;

Mushroom and wine pasta n sauce, this was a favourite of mine for years and it just vanished.

Echo bars, especially the mint ones and Cadbury's snaps.

TommyShelby · 28/03/2021 20:01

Heinz sticky toffee pudding in a tin. So bad for you but so tasty

Tesco also used to make a tuna pâté that was bloody lovely and I’ve not seen that in ages
