Is quite interesting and hypnotic to watch the slow spread

It seems to have calmed right down this morning. I hope there are more theatrics to come. 🤞

boatyardblues · 22/03/2021 12:19

Oops. My video feed was paused on a dull bit. 😂

PuffinShop · 22/03/2021 12:57

DP and I are thinking about taking a day off tomorrow to do the hike... Depending on the weather and gas levels. The weather's quite nasty today as you can see on the webcam and access is officially closed to all but SAR and scientists, but the forecast is much better tomorrow.

lubeybooby · 22/03/2021 13:10

I've been watching on and off for a few days, it's absolutely mesmerising

I'm insanely jealous of anyone able to get there. Also those able to see when Etna was erupting a few weeks ago.

Witnessing actual lava in person with my own eyes - preferably something like this gorgeously elegant one in Iceland (about as safe as it ever gets, with ability to be close but not too close) is my number one bucket list wish

I'd been following the increase in earthquake activity for over a year and hoped it would hold on until after my vaccinations, but looks like sadly not to be and likely will have all finished by the time I can go.

I'll still go back to Iceland one day anyway though (went once before, saw whales and the northern lights... just amazing)

How close is that man to that in the picture on the most recent link Shock

TyneTeas · 22/03/2021 14:47

I know!

(Mind I reckon I probably couldn't be trusted to not want to touch it if I were that close. Not the orange glowy stuff, obviously, but the black stuff, well how hot could it really be Grin)

Just my luck - there's now a blizzard and you can hardly see a thing...

TyneTeas · 22/03/2021 15:43

Has cleared up a bit now Smile

Someone adjusted the camera about 15 minutes ago so you can see the whole lava field and the edge of it again. I couldn’t work out what the moving bright flashes were but it was possibly snowflakes catching the sun.

TyneTeas · 22/03/2021 16:35

Excellent, you really need to be able to see the edges to appreciate how it is advancing

If it's safe to then tell us what time and wave at the webcam Grin
TyneTeas · 22/03/2021 20:05

It's currently quite active, the valley is aglow!

ooo so it is. What an amazing sight with all the snow!

I logged on this afternoon on my break and a minute later a bit of the tower collapsed. It was very impressive.

I think I might be addicted to this webcam

PantherPantherus · 22/03/2021 20:24

Personally, if I had booked a trip to Iceland through my local travel agency I would be blooming fuming. They would be done under the Trades Description Act or something like. Place should be called Fireland or Volcanoland. Its a bit misleading to call it Iceland at the moment with all that brimstone and stuff shooting everywhere.

I think I'm a bit addicted too. It's amazing to watch at night, it's making me feel a bit sleepy just staring at it. Keep showing it to DP but I don't think he is sharing my enthusiasm Grin
