What shall we name our house?

Where I'm from all the houses have names instead of numbers.

We're moving into a new house next month and we'd like to change the current name of it.

It's a bungalow on a corner plot but The Corner House just doesn't have a nice ring to it!

Any ideas hive mind? Thank you!

Our house was originally Rema - built by Reg and Mary.

Peachypips78 · 12/03/2021 17:28

I agree- it has to fit with the environment. Our house is called Well Court (no numbers here as rural) because it has a well slap bang in the middle of the kitchen floor!

@Thunderpunt

Dunwivstares
@Thunderpunt that has killed me and I’ve had a shocking day, thank you for the laugh Grin

My mum grew up at a house called The Shambles and I just love how my grandparents leaned into the name! There’s also one not far from us that I’m in love with which has a big knarly tree at the front and it’s called Tanglewood.

I am now very tempted to rename our (tiny, town centre cottage) house to something completely incongruous like Sea View or Farm Cottage...

Something like ‘The Dowager House’ has a nice air of modest grandeur.

Wasn’t there a storyline in Corrie many moons ago when Vera Duckworth decided to name their back-to-back terrace The Old Rectory?

I vaguely recall a newspaper article about house names and what happens to sell for most, and the answer was Dove Cottage.

Typically named 'The Dower House'

JemimaTiggywinkle · 12/03/2021 17:57

Does it have any notable plants in the front garden? E.g. Rose cottage, Ivy Cottage etc.

Pavlova31 · 12/03/2021 18:21

Norman Wisdom

Pavlova31 · 12/03/2021 18:23

The name of a comedian from a good while ago now if you are wondering who that is .

DiscoStusMoonboots · 12/03/2021 18:25

Makroom ?

frogswimming · 12/03/2021 18:30

Are you in England? Where are you? Give us some clues, it'll help with appropriate names.

Lulu1919 · 12/03/2021 18:40

Field View

Oak Lodge ....or something lodge

FlamingGoat · 12/03/2021 19:00

The house name generator gave me The Nettles and Stone Bank. I quite like those.
We live on a farm though so it's already got a name.

Bluntness100 · 12/03/2021 19:04

I’m not sure it’s wise to call it a cottage when it’s a bungalow? Calling it a cottage isn’t going to actually make it one. It’s like calling a bungalow “upstairs downstairs”. It’s a bit odd.

Maybe just “the cornerstone” .

Bluntness100 · 12/03/2021 19:05

Or “little corner” or “the corner house”..

Ahmose · 12/03/2021 19:11

Ye House

TUGGY2006 · 12/03/2021 20:17

I once seen a house called 'Tickety-Boo' & I loved it would name my house that if I had one. Good luck with the renaming in looking forward to hearing what your choose

Laiste · 12/03/2021 20:29

Dry Farm ! ???

LMAO

That's what the name generator threw up for my house.

thesugarbumfairy · 12/03/2021 20:38

Gloria

Another vote for Norman!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/03/2021 13:37

So glad we got this sorted good and proper. I'm going to allow 3 months for the procurement of a lovely house name sign and then - ever the optimist - send a well-wishing postcard just addressed 'to Norman (on the corner)'.

Let me know when it arrives, OP.

In honour of Norman, I feel like you should take a feminine twist and go with Norma Corner.

PhilCornwall1 · 13/03/2021 16:02

Perhaps name it Cock Lodge(r)

🤷‍♂️
