What shall we name our house?

Where I'm from all the houses have names instead of numbers.

We're moving into a new house next month and we'd like to change the current name of it.

It's a bungalow on a corner plot but The Corner House just doesn't have a nice ring to it!

Any ideas hive mind? Thank you!

Does it have any particular trees or plants in the garden?

Returnoftheowl · 12/03/2021 00:17

I got Wigwam View! My neighbours have built one on the common land...

There is a house near me called Tantrums.

Friends of mine, Carol and Peter, wanted to combine their names to get a house name. Their options were Carpet or Petrol Grin The chose The Nook.

I do like Norman though. Or Dave. What about North Manor!

Don’t call it Rose Cottage as this is used in hospital to refer to the mortuary.

Norman Corner
Amen Corner

What do you like? Name it after that, so Winterfell, Firefly Cottage etc

BalancedIndividual · 12/03/2021 00:26

Mordor
Yavin
Vulcan

Pooh corner

I used to live near some public toilets that were at the corner of the road - they were decommissioned and the building was renovated before becoming a hair salon. I think they called it something boring like 'A Cut Above' or 'A Touch Of Class' but they soooo should have gone with 'Pooh Corner'.

There's a beautiful holiday cottage in Norfolk that used to be public toilets and the new owners have called it 'The Wee Retreat'!

Just because houses don't have actual numbers, is there anything stopping you from giving it a name that just happens to sound like a number? It has quite a ring to it if there's a tiny little village road with only four houses on it, named respectively 'Church Cottage', 'The Elms', 'Six Thousand Four Hundred And Ninety Two' and 'The School House'.

Seriously, though - as I'm sure you now realise - it has to be Norman.

Many years ago, I read about a couple who moved to Britain from the Philippines, who decided to follow this little custom and had a lovely sign made up. Their names were Constance & Dominic, though Grin

House names I remember from a village I lived in were Starbank and Sunnybank both overlooked fields.

Justanotherdragact · 12/03/2021 03:24

Either:

  1. Norman (obviously)
  2. The fuck hut
1forAll74 · 12/03/2021 03:51

I know two couples. who named their houses Sea View, and they both lived in the middle of the country.

What a fab and timely thread. I am shortly moving to Casa Bevron (roughly translated)... should I keep the name? My middle name is Bevel (roughly translated). Will I eventually meet Ron?

Should I be worried that the current residents are going to Rose Cottage?

Loved the name generator which suggested Neome’s House and Toad’s Lodge

col92 · 12/03/2021 04:27

Wolagnub it's bungalow spelt backwards hahahaha 🤣

Neome · 12/03/2021 04:38

OzziePopPop · 12/03/2021 05:17

Do you get any particular birds in the garden? Blackbird Corner, Sparrow’s Corner? Or Blackberry Corner, Oak Corner, Magnolia Corner if there’s a particular tree maybe?

garlictwist · 12/03/2021 05:23

Theres a house near me pposite the dump. It has a beautiful hand made carved sign outside in a swirly font that reads "tip view". I like it - may as well own the fact!

PhilCornwall1 · 12/03/2021 05:59

Pampas Acre

All the neighbours will then think they are swingers!!

PhilCornwall1 · 12/03/2021 06:18

Thinking about it, you've said it's a bungalow, so name it:

Half a House

Some really helpful suggestions, I bet you are pleased you asked OP.

What about Brambles, The Dene, Cornerstone Cottage, Cornerstones.

What type of things or seasons do you like OP, and think about words associated with that, I am sure you will find a suitable name that means something special to you. Good luck.
