Things I’m never buying from Lidl again....

I like Lidl a lot. I like that there’s little choice of brands which stops me dithering. I like that there’s only about 5 aisles so it’s quick but there’s definitely things I’ll never buy again.

  1. tortilla wraps. They stick together in the pack and tear when you try and separate them.

  2. and the main reason for this thread. The sanitary towels! Awful, so awful for many reasons and I’ve only been using them for today. Never again.

Anything else I need to swerve??

I have had this with most brands. Roll the whole lot up whilst still in the pack and they separate far more easily.

All the lettuce tastes either bitter or bland. Avocados, easy peelers and grapes all seem to go off the second I leave the store.
Prawns are never deveined properly and no matter what I do they shrink to little rubber bullets in seconds. My fishmongers prices are eye watering in comparison but at least the quality is there.

@Deborino

My daughter bought rissoto rice which was full of maggots!
Oh fuck. I've just bought a huge bag of Lidl aborio rice Sad

Decent-The croissants and own brand version of petit filous (very smooth and not floury).
Bad - fruit and veg. I can imagine lidl bulk buy a months worth and store it sub zero temp so when you get it home, it only lasts a day.

minniemoocher · 06/03/2021 22:48

I buy Lidl's sanitary towels, I find them fine. But I'm pretty light due to age and the mirina

AlohaMolly · 06/03/2021 22:49

I think Lidl’s vary wildly across the country! Mine is in north wales and I’ve got no complaints at all - the berries do go off within the week but the veg can last ages!

NoseOfJericho · 06/03/2021 22:53

Crisps are unpleasant. Weird.
I stopped using the bakery because it was uncovered, always flies, fluff from people clothing, sneezing, in fact I haven't been inside a Lidl since the first lockdown - the time of the mouldy blueberries, every single pack.

I used to buy the toilet paper, the one with pink flowers, until they changed it, found it was too thin.

Have had far too many packs of sausages grow little manky white bumps, ditto burgers and other meat. Fish is often off the day after purchase so those are also things I won't buy again.

Have to really choose veg carefully, turn the packs over and over to check that the sides of peppers aren't rotten because far too often they have been. It doesn't last as long as stuff from Morrisons and is about the same price.

Chimeraforce · 06/03/2021 22:59

I get bodyform from poundland. They're good towels and the lack of wings means no towel tangling.
I agree about the bagged salad it smells swampy or composty and has bits that have gone slimy. I get it from the coop. Dearer but better.

Posyc · 06/03/2021 23:03

The weetabix is odd. You keep pouring milk on and it just sucks it up. The more you pour the more it absorbs. Yet it still tastes dry.
I agree about the fruit and veg which goes off and the stuck together wraps. Also the Cien conditioner is hopeless and the pouches of cat food are awful. Really runny with about two chunks of meat.

Posyc · 06/03/2021 23:07

Also the pizza things from the bakery are inedible.

Yes, they are nasty. I used to like the bread rolls with cheese on top though.
PattyPan · 06/03/2021 23:17

The cheapest oats in the paper bags. There’s too much husk in there. I also had some onions on from the weekly special and the whole bag were bad. Not had a problem with the rest of the stuff that I can recall.

PattyPan · 06/03/2021 23:19

I use reusable sanitary pads, much cheaper in the long run, better for the environment and best of all you don’t feel like you’re wearing a nappy!

Branleuse · 06/03/2021 23:23

Lidl coffee is shit. Ive not found a good one there. Really bad, both ground and instant

@underneaththeash

I don't get the love with either Lidl or Aldi? They're just like Kwik Save, unless you really have no money and are time rich, why would you want to walk round somewhere horrible, with only half the items you need to buy, to then have to queue for ages to get to a check out with an unpleasant individual who won't let you pack.
I've never understood the blind obsession with Aldi and Lidl, I speak as one who was shopping in Aldi since before many MNers were born, a lot of their 'fresh' fruit and vegetables are poor. The packing comment though ignores the need to use the packing benches, thus addressing the queues comment!
StrikeItLuckyShuffle · 06/03/2021 23:28

Frozen breaded chicken steaks
They Taste so bad
the box has more nutrition and tastes better than these do

NearlyTheHolidays2 · 06/03/2021 23:29

Sorry, not the point of the thread but highly recommend reusable sanitary pads. So much nicer than disposables!

OhWhyNot · 06/03/2021 23:29

In Greek week the filo pastry spinach and cheese swirl - best not to buy it (so I can Grin )

Fruit and veg has to be used quickly

I only buy the free range meat and I don’t like there sausages

They no longer seem to sell the block of emmental I don’t like sliced cheese it always has a waxy texture

Stoppissingonmyheather · 06/03/2021 23:32

Oh that leek and cheese swirl 😍
MrDarcysMa · 06/03/2021 23:33

Their washing up liquid gives me a rash. And their finest sourdough pizzas are so crap compared to Aldi's!

PattyPan · 06/03/2021 23:34

Quality must vary hugely between Lidl branches and/or some of you are exaggerating. I’m vegan so my diet is almost entirely fruit and veg and I’ve never had a problem with any of it in terms of flavour or how long it lasts except the onions I mentioned above, which is good going considering until lockdown I did almost all my shopping there.
Also whichever pp was complaining about not being able to get brands... they do sell branded food Confused

Lolllll I just tried Aldi weetabix and it was the same. Took about 2 pints of milk and was still crunchy after 10 minutes. I gave up and had coco pops.

Indeed. I used to coffee share with a mate at work, I’d bring in kenco or douwe egbert she’d bring lidl. Bleuch. Thank goodness we aren’t allowed to share now. Small mercy.
