Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

But of all the people in all the world, Anne had to couple up with Camilla's ex. It's bizarre.

Anne first had an affair with Andrew when he was still married to Camilla, who was very upset. I know, I know, the plot thickens, eh?

Who ARE these people? 🤣

JustLyra · 02/03/2021 21:34

@halcyondays

Didn’t Anne go out with Andrew P-B years ago before he married Camilla?
He did.

He was catholic though so he was never going to be a candidate to marry Anne.

They’re all very interlinked in that little group.

Prince Charles is Tom Parker-bowles’ godfather. Andrew Parker-Bowles is Zara’s godfather

These files seem to have a habit of getting lost, or needing to be locked again for security reasons (like the legal advice and discussions on Charles' marriage to Camilla)

So glad I'm not the only one who remembers that - when a PP mentioned that "their past doesn't matter" it occurred to me once again that it might if someone challenges the legality of the marriage when his "turn" comes

I'm never really one for encouraging conspiracy theories, but that one just seems so obvious.

If all the advice and legal opinions said "Aye, that's all fine Charlie, nae bother at all" then there would be no need to keep it private. So the fact they did lock it says a lot.

I’m sure all those things really upset him. He tried to help Diana. He wrote to her and tried to talk to her. He’s now a very old man. His grandson has put two fingers up to the whole family and greatly upset his elderly wife. He adored Harry, entrusted him with cherished patronages. Was there for him when his mother died. I’m sure he is very upset that he is most probably going to die soon without having seen Harry for a year , leaving his wife to continue to cope without his emotional support. The Queen has to deal with her constitutional role and her difficult family situation at a very advanced age, and most probably is soon to be widowed. It would not be surprising if all the emotional stress has caused him to become ill.

Do you have any actual facts, or just a host of guesses and assumptions?
Roussette · 02/03/2021 22:00

Ahhhh soooo... Harry protecting his wife and family and stepping away is worse than all the other stuff his family has done in the past. And it's a lot. And Charles is obviously as much use as a chocolate teapot if he can't support the Queen, he is next in line after all.

Totally disagree on your bizarre take on it that Harry and Meghan have caused this.
Unfair. Untrue. And a ridiculous opinion.

He's a very elderly ill gentleman and you are surmising like you actually know.
You don't

Eh? Are you a lady in waiting or something?

VinylDetective · 02/03/2021 22:03

How can anyone challenge the legality of the Cornwalls’ marriage? Neither of them was married to anyone else and they had a civil ceremony at Windsor registry office followed by a church blessing. This thread’s ridiculous.

TuesdayinSeptember · 02/03/2021 22:09

It's a whole new level of H & M bashing to try to blame them for the illness of a 99 year old man who has been suffering from health issues for years. Utterly bizarre. And very unpleasant.

AnnaMagnani · 02/03/2021 22:10

If you read the 'Ma'am Darling' book on Princess Margaret there is loads about Prince Philip.

He clearly found his early marriage very difficult - it's hinted that he never said 'I'm just an amoeba' but 'I'm just a sperm' but due to the more conservative times it got switched to the more acceptable word amoeba. So effort was made for him to have something to do and then he got into the 'duty first thing' and having made his whole life about standing 2 steps back, being quiet and probably doing things he found insanely boring, he must find it hard when others aren't up for doing the same.

But in 100 yrs I'm sure all the affairs will get reported that didn't at the time. It came across that he got into sailing, which the Queen hated, as it enabled him to have an affair with Princess Alexandra - especially hurtful as she was the Queen's cousin.

Can you imagine the headlines now that Philip had an affair with his wife's cousin?

But the media was different then and so both Philip and Elizabeth have lived by different rules.

It's constitutionally questionable if he could marry in a civil ceremony under the Marriage Act.
SilverBirchWithout · 02/03/2021 22:13

It always astonishes me that people on threads like this believe the royal family is a normal family like their own. And presuming the Queen and Prince Philip are just like their own elderly grandparents, they have always lived very separate lives.

Their various scandals over the years are fairly standard behaviours of the rich and powerful, and the upper classes. The only thing that is distressing for them is when it becomes public knowledge. They are very aware their survival depends on maintaining the mystery of the Crown. Ironically it is Meghan and Harry courting and naively believing they can control their media attention which is the biggest threat to them.
Remove the mystery, they become normal people with flaws like all of us - so why are we funding their dysfunctional lives.

Not blaming but it certainly can’t help.
Number3BigCupOfTea · 02/03/2021 22:15

really, does The Marriage Act have an exclusion clause for heirs to the throne? ie, their marriages have to be c of e? But then, a marriage is legal if it's legal. I have not phrased that very well but what I mean is, being a prince doesn't mean that a state marriage isn't legal. I think!

It's the precursor for when he does go. It will be a complete field day on M&H and it being their fault

nimbuscloud · 02/03/2021 22:17

@GoLightlyontheEarth
Do you think he was upset that his granddaughter Beatrice was unable to publish a photo of her with her parents and her husband on her wedding day? Do Roy think that caused him any stress?

nimbuscloud · 02/03/2021 22:17

You - not Roy!

VinylDetective · 02/03/2021 22:18

We haven’t got a constitution. The marriage received a church blessing conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The 1953 Registration Act repealed the preceding act which forbade civil marriage ceremonies for the monarchy, backed by the 2000 Human Rights Act.

^^ This.
There were months that he was in Norfolk and the Queen in Windsor.

LoveYourUsername · 02/03/2021 22:23

Well, I think it's very distasteful to comment on the Royal marriages and point the finger at Prince Philip and the Queen at this time.

Whatever your views, republican or monarchist, the fact is he's a 99 year old man who is ill.

Maybe start a new thread on Chat entitled Royal Gossip?

This thread was meant to show concern for PP who- regardless of his private life- has done a lot of good with his D of E scheme and he was very involved with education, which many people are unaware of.

I don't think it's in good taste to start discussing his possible affairs now.

Etinox · 02/03/2021 22:25
Shock I know it’s ridiculous to come onto a thread and say, why do you care? But honestly! I’ve noticed this thread in active for days and clicked to see if anything had happened and wow! Get a hobby people- I’m mildly pro monarchist couldn’t come up with more than a benign vague interest.
