Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

"We understand that this is a big news story and we don't want people to not be able to discuss it but we will have to make further deletions and possibly close it again if there's more speculation of the 'ungenerous' sort,"

Um, why?
Why are you policing what people say about the Royal Family?

showmethegin · 21/02/2021 21:10

Maybe because whether you're a royalist or not, speculating about whether someone is dead yet is abhorrent?

Pimlicojo · 21/02/2021 21:11

Gwenhyfar I don't think they're policing what people say about the royal family. They're being mindful about what people say about a very elderly man who is unwell in hospital, and is a husband and father.

Speculating that someone who is 99 might possibly die is not 'ungenerous'

Exactly. Can't believe the question was even asked. Confused

Since when did MN become so censored?

AuntieStella · 21/02/2021 21:19

Since when did MN become so censored?
Since forever.

It's their site, and they have always deleted what they consider 'not in the spirit'

Lynora · 21/02/2021 21:20

Not to this extent they haven't.

Going against the grain, I really don't understand the taboo around death in the U.K. why are we so afraid of talking MH about it? It's almost like it's unnatural, or offensive for people to die. In other countries a long, happy life full of love is celebrated and no one kicks off when someone speculates that a 99yo man being visited by his family in a time where visits are banned may be close to death.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 21/02/2021 21:20

No idea where the random MH came from in my last post Confused

picknmix1984 · 21/02/2021 21:22

I'm not Royalist but I think Princess Anne will be so sad. She always appeared to be his favourite ( well in the Crown she did anyway- that is real right?)

SophieB100 · 21/02/2021 21:23

Glad that this thread is back - seems to have been a news blackout today? No update, or anything on any media.

My mum died earlier this month at 98. I would have found people speculating about her death to be 'ungenerous' indeed.

It's one thing to have a 'private' discussion about someone's upcoming death. Quite another to discuss it or speculate 'publicly'.

I realize that it's highly unlikely the RF reads MN, but still. To assume that someone's upcoming death is nothing because they're 'old' is unkind to say the least.

"Every man's death diminishes me" doesn't have an age limit.

This IS SPARTA BRITAIN! 🛡🤺 👑

No really, that's the answer.
It's not that different here to the Thai system of deference, once you scratch the surface.

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2021 21:26

Some of the posts might as well have said 'oooh Prince Charles has visited that means he's definitely about to die' and all sorts of other speculation. I suppose if that's what you are into the post deletions will come as a disappointment.
Nothing to do with death being a taboo subject. Maybe a discussion about death in general is fine just not a particular person's? (That's just my thoughts/opinions not looking for a huge debate)

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/02/2021 21:28

Glad this thread is back. That was odd. It’s been trending all day, but it was closed last night.

To assume that someone's upcoming death is nothing because they're 'old' is unkind to say the least.

Who actually said this though?

The RF live purposely in the public eye, they survive purely because of the speculation. They can't have it both ways - they can't expect to thrive by people speculating about what colour hat the Queen will wear, and then be shocked when people speculate at the less superficial aspects of the family.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 21/02/2021 21:30

*speculation and interest

the80sweregreat · 21/02/2021 21:33

I miss teletext and the bamboozle quiz and the news updates!
I don't recall them saying anything about the Queen Mum when she died?
There isn't anything on line about the Duke today apart from Prince Charles going there yesterday to visit.

DareIask · 21/02/2021 21:33

I don't find discussion about why PC is visiting, what the protocols are for a Royal death are etc offensive or controversial. That's the price the RF pay for their privileges.

However discussing whether or not it's sad, or whether they should be sad, or PP's past is disrespectful, as it would be for anyone.

SophieB100 · 21/02/2021 21:34

I remember Teletext!
August 31st 1997 - got up at 5 a.m. to feed my new born, and put the TV on - DH had left it on Teletext late the night before for the cricket scores...that's how I heard about the car crash in Paris. Will never forget that.

the80sweregreat · 21/02/2021 21:35

I got up that morning Diane died and went straight to teletext ! I also had a newborn!
Can't believe she has been gone 24 years.

SophieB100 · 21/02/2021 21:38

@the80sweregreat
I'll never forget that morning, like it was yesterday.

Lollypop701 · 21/02/2021 21:38

Death is a part of life cycle and the usual British stance is to not talk about it very much, kids generally don’t go as it’s upsetting, people don’t know what to say to the bereaved so they say nothing. I get he is a public persona but he is also a husband, father, grandfather etc. I just find this overt interest give me the ick! Hope he’s ok tbh
