Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

@AlternativePerspective what social media was around when The Queen Mother died?

Lots of the buildings in that area are linked so it would be fairly easy to have a private visit by another entrance.
Prince Philip will have exceptional, world class care.

Crikey I think there is some jumping the gun here.
I think in Prince Phillips case he will be in hospital for active treatment or monitoring. I don’t believe for a minute he would be in hospital if it were the worst case scenario.
As to Prince Charles visiting, well why wouldn’t he visit his elderly Dad if it is allowed. He must be having a very difficult time with the situation regarding Prince Harry, maybe he just needed to see his Dad for comfort/advice or to provide PP with company.
Wishing Prince Phillip a speedy recovery and swift return home to the Queen.

itsgettingwierd · 20/02/2021 22:45

@AlternativePerspective

I really hope he walks out on Monday and sticks two fingers up at those who are intent on speculating that he’s dead/dying/how/where it will happen.
He would stick his fingers up as well.

I love his lack of airs and graces at the most opportune moments!

SummerHouse · 20/02/2021 22:45

So news agencies being critical of PC visit, he visited for a short time, no other visits. This all points to PP being alive and kicking to me and I hope so.
**@LilQueenie I think social media killed off the queen mother several times before she actually died.

How ever did people cope before social media and they had to wait for people to die before announcing it to the world?
You used to just make shit up and spread it around school.
Or rumours would fly around festivals.

Social media killed the Queen off a couple of years ago, and has killed Philip off at least twice so far.

Pimlicojo · 20/02/2021 22:47

Stratrfordplace they really are not linked. Sorry, but they are not.

LilQueenie · 20/02/2021 22:47

is military leave cancelled due to needing them for the vaccine rollout. I read they were stepping it up soon.

Bouledeneige · 20/02/2021 22:48

The family never normally visit even when pretty ill. They are just cold. No sign of wifey. But then they live separately anyway. It's not just Covid - they never visit,

He's very old and is going to die at some point. It's not a tragedy,

VienneseWhirligig · 20/02/2021 22:48

Military leave being cancelled is probably far more to do with supporting mass testing when schools go back than anything else.

Of course they visit.

Do you have to write when you are being sarcastic on Mumsnet?
I did confess in my original post that feeling bitter didn't make me feel good at all, and I owned up to going off topic.
I am here in the UK, and my daughter lives in the US.
I have no idea when we will be able to see each other.
It now appears that Harry will not be subject to the same travel restrictions as we are, purely because his being a Royal gives him special treatment and dispensations. This isn't fair, but then of course life isn't fair. So that's where I've been coming from, and sorry if I came across as sarcastic, but unearned privilege quite frankly stinks.

Sarahlou63 · 20/02/2021 22:52

@HashtagAnonyMouse

Sarahlou63 do you even know what you're talking about?
Yes. The royal family are rather traditional in that deaths are managed in the same way as the rest of their lives. Aside from Margaret (and Diana) senior royals die at home.

PleaseStopExplaining · 20/02/2021 22:54

@Level32 🤦‍♀️I practically lived on MSN, can’t believe I forgot it. It’s definitely the sort of thing that would have killed off QM before she died.

itispersonal · 20/02/2021 22:58

Yes 99 is a good innings, longer than most get my own df died in his late 60s. But at the end of the day, he is someone's husband, father, grandfather and in that relationship you never want them to go!

I think the people moaning about Charles seeing him is disgraceful and spiteful! Even if other people didn't get to see theirs, I wouldn't begrudge any son/ daughter/ wife seeing their loved one in hospital when they are so old. I know my elderly relative had his family to visit. Complain to the government/ hospital not the family members.

Evening, all.

We've reopened this thread now we've had a chance to go through it. We hope it's been a chance for everyone to cool off a bit too as there were a lot of deletions.

We understand that this is a big news story and we don't want people to not be able to discuss it but we will have to make further deletions and possibly close it again if there's more speculation of the 'ungenerous' sort, or if the thread turns into yet another thread about Meghan Markle.

We'd really like to get it back on track now. Obviously our thoughts are with the Duke of Edinburgh and all his family at this time. Flowers

feistyoneyouare · 21/02/2021 20:42

@kurtrussellsbeard

Of course there's speculation and interest. By a matter of mere birthright and marriage he's more important than everyone else. Surely we are allowed to discuss important people?
Erm, sorry, but he really isn't. That's not meant to sound insensitive - I really hope he isn't seriously ill - but no one has more intrinsic importance as a human being than others simply because of the title they hold.
chillicheesebuns · 21/02/2021 20:51

Would Charles really break lockdown rules, considering his high profile?

Charles flew to his second home in Scotland right after he was actually diagnosed positive with Covid, when Nicola Sturgeon had said that no one should be travelling to second homes in Scotland period. People who have tested positive shouldn't be travelling at all!

I'm sorry for Charles that his dad is dying and I don't judge him for visiting, but none of the royals pay the blindest bit of attention to Covid restrictions.

The Sun having a live webcam on the hospital and basically doing 'death watch' is vile.

BananaPop2020 · 21/02/2021 20:52

@feistyoneyouare I completely agree. Half of the issues on threads like these are caused by people actually believing this notion, which is just staggering in 2021.

CherryRoulade · 21/02/2021 20:54

Philip isn't having a state or ceremonial funeral when the time comes so there won't be the need to cancel military leave in the way there will be with other royal funerals.

Well I guess Covid may change the arrangements, but he is entitled to a full state funeral as consort. That is what is planned for, when the time comes.

keffie12 · 21/02/2021 20:58

@Level32

I don't know how old you are or if the word Teletext means anything to you however they also accidently put it up once about the Queen Mum.

Apparently all news outlets have a template ready to release when they get news of various deaths in the royal family.

Evidently they check them regular and on occasions have accidently put them up by clicking the wrong button they say

Wheresthebeach · 21/02/2021 20:58

I hope he's okay. Be fab if he made it to 100. Don't know why I feel that way, but I do.
