Prince Philip

Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

@the80sweregreat

I miss teletext and the bamboozle quiz and the news updates! I don't recall them saying anything about the Queen Mum when she died? There isn't anything on line about the Duke today apart from Prince Charles going there yesterday to visit.
I loved Bamboozle.

I'll never forget that morning, like it was yesterday.[/quote]
Me neither!
My son was just over two months old in 97. I can remember my dh put the tv on and said ' they are talking about Diana in the past tense ' so I went straight to teletext to see what had happened . My inlaws came over and made me turn the tv off! ( they were strange )
It was a surreal week and a strange time snd I can remember it all.

Gone.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/02/2021 21:47

23 years. I feel old. I'm 6 months older than William.

KarenMarlow3 · 21/02/2021 21:48

I'm sure Prince Phillip isn't being asked to wear a demeaning, undignified hospital gown. He will have a private room, his own chef present, so no need to be presented with hospital food. He will have access to the best doctors (when my doctor's surgery is saying no appointments available until 19th March. If you haven't got Covid, they're not interested). I don't begrudge him any of this, but wish the general public could be treated in a similar manner.

the80sweregreat · 21/02/2021 21:59

23 years sorry! I was thinking that ds2 will be 24 in June. Getting confused.
I agree that Prince Phillip will get the best of everything while others are on the 'back burner 'so to speak. It is unfair.

CoffeeRunner · 21/02/2021 22:09

One of the posts you have deleted simply pointed out that if it transpires that Philip is alive & well (as I of course hope him to be), then people will rightly be annoyed that Charles was permitted to visit in circumstances where others have not been.

And you deleted it. That’s outrageous censorship.

I got up that morning Diane died and went straight to teletext ! I also had a newborn! Can't believe she has been gone 24 years.
I miss her. Warts and all. I will miss Prince Philip when he goes. The determined old bugger.
PinkTonic · 21/02/2021 22:10

Charles flew to his second home in Scotland right after he was actually diagnosed positive with Covid

I don’t think this is true, he was in Scotland when he tested positive.

It’s 24 years this year. I was 34 weeks pregnant when Diana died. DS1 was born at 37 weeks & is 24 this September.

outrageous censorship

Oh, get over yourself. Mumsnet is a chat forum not a state broadcaster.

jamidays · 21/02/2021 22:16

@Terfy

I know he can't live forever, but I'm not ready for bad news like this.
Elizabeth, is that you?

I was worried this was going to be a royal bashing. I’m so glad it isn’t.

rosetylersbiggun · 21/02/2021 22:28

I don’t think this is true, he was in Scotland when he tested positive.

You're right, I got mixed up: he was exposed to someone who'd tested positive and moved from London to Highgrove in order to quarantine at Highgrove. Three days later he developed symptoms of Covid,
so decided decided to fly to Scotland with his staff (after being exposed and developing symptoms but before taking the test) in order to do the second half of his quarantine there.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/02/2021 22:36

@Pimlicojo

Gwenhyfar I don't think they're policing what people say about the royal family. They're being mindful about what people say about a very elderly man who is unwell in hospital, and is a husband and father.
Who is a member of the Royal Family so they're policing what people say about the Royal Family, no? What am I missing here?
Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/02/2021 22:40

As a slight aside, I had to smile when someone said TV presenters had taken to wearing black

Not because they were wearing it, but at the thought of what Philip may say if he knows
Visions of ructions in the room and him yelling "I'm not dead yet you b*stards!!!" Grin

Gwenhwyfar · 21/02/2021 22:40

"My mum died earlier this month at 98. I would have found people speculating about her death to be 'ungenerous' indeed."

You may well find it ungenerous, but that doesn't mean it should be censored, does it?

Gwenhwyfar · 21/02/2021 22:40

I mean, there's no law that we have to be generous.

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2021 22:46

I don't think there's any 'law' on MN is there? If something gets reported which they want to delete they can-as it's been forever. I guess you don't want to be generous-so you take your chances...
VinylDetective · 21/02/2021 22:47

We could try to be decent. Or has that bitten the dust too?
Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2021 22:50

There's no law that we have to be decent. Apparently law is relevant here. Confused

If you think that's outrageous censorship, try writing on here that you are not sticking to the stupid lockdown rules, or agreeing with anyone else who isn't.

Censorship is rife at the moment. In fact, inspired my current username.
