Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

This looks ominous - visit was conducted in exceptional circumstances in accordance with hospital policy and Charles to remain in London following visit.

I expect it's imminent now.

I think that, when the time comes, he will be cared for at Windsor (or wherever the Queen is at the time) - there's no reason for him to die in hospital when he can be given good EOL care at home.

DOINGOURBIT · 20/02/2021 22:09

I don't read anything from that Express link to be overly concerned about. He's in good spirits. His son is 72 years old, a pensioner himself, he can stay in London whenever he wishes. Probably wants to visit again.

Can't help but think there's some people on this site who love bad news.

Some people prefer to be in hospital at the end of their lives, for a variety of reasons.

BBC has just said that Prince Charles has returned to Highgrove

Surely not if moving him would result in the poor man perhaps passing away whilst being transported.

I know she isn't royalty (except to my family!) but my DGM just passed away in hospital because she could feasibly have passed away on the journey to the hospice. In the end, it was another 24 hours before she died, but no one was to know that when the decision was made.

Hold on guys. Nige said after 10. There’s still time.

He wouldn’t lie to the British public.

Princess Margaret died at the hospital.

Some people chose for EOL to be in a hospital or hospice, others want to be at home. For some, depending upon what is wrong with them, being at home (even with their own private doctor) isn’t practical or possible. Remember, this isn’t an NHS hospital but a private one more akin to a luxury hotel.

It’s all speculation except for the fact that nobody at 99, in the midst of a pandemic, would opt to go to hospital unless they really had to. It’s more than just observation and rest that the Palace has said because that really could be largely done at home and wouldn’t take several days.

I see all the farrage believing twitter lovers have disappeared since it turns out this was all bollocks.

So... on a positive note, before the thread goes poof, assuming the announcement is what we suspect and soonish, can we think of NICE captions for pictures of PP. In the spirit of Biden Boops, like this one...

PP: Whatever he's smoking I think I need some to get thru the rest of this dull tour.
HRM: Now dear...

How do we know the Queen isn’t at King Edward VII with him? If she is I am sure Ann will be with her.

Sarahlou63 · 20/02/2021 22:14

What I mean is, is if it's obvious he is close to death and no medical intervention is possible or necessary then he wouldn't be in hospital. Therefore if he is in hospital it's not terminal.

Jesus, people do talk bollocks. People die in hospital all the time.

I’ve had lots of patients who have chosen to die in hospital over being at home. It’s very much an individual choice and sometimes one that is only decided at the time when the reality kicks in.

It’s possible he is not well enough to travel.

RosesAndHellebores · 20/02/2021 22:17

@BlueTimes I must correct you - King Edward VII whilst a private hospital is very much not akin to a luxury hotel. I recall it as rather utilitarian compared to other private hospitals.

What’s more, I’m sure if required a media block could be put on that visit or else it could be arranged through an alternative entrance. Who knows, maybe Charles arriving or leaving was a distraction technique to allow others in through another door.
PickAChew · 20/02/2021 22:18

He's at least got to hang on long enough to get a telegram from the missus.

It is compared to your local NHS one.

I really hope he walks out on Monday and sticks two fingers up at those who are intent on speculating that he’s dead/dying/how/where it will happen.

MixedUpFiles · 20/02/2021 22:19

I would wish the same for him as my elderly relatives, a life free of pain and filled with love.

Sarahlou63 · 20/02/2021 22:21

Absolutely agree - lots of people die in hospital and lots of patients die in hospital. I just think PP (given the choice) would prefer to die at home. Given the choice, I would.
