Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

@nimbuscloud yes I do, and I think it is appalling. Unfortunately, it is extremely unlikely that this will ever be resolved as ‘The Firm’ won’t allow it to happen - a prime example of how they bring the bulk of their problems on themselves. I have said it before and will say it again - the last year has shown how irrelevant and out of touch the Royals are in today’s society. The only Royal that I have any time for is Camilla.

Esse321 · 20/02/2021 20:47

He walked into hospital a couple of days ago he probably is fine and all this is speculation because of his age, if he was expected to pass I think the Queen would be there as she was at the Queen Mother's bedside when she passed.

Dodie66 · 20/02/2021 20:48

I don’t see how people could tell he looked emotional when he left. He was wearing a mask

I didn’t know they were able to put timings on it like that @LittleDoritt Shock
But I have no medical background or knowledge at all.

MouthAche · 20/02/2021 20:49

@Multicover

How is Harry quarantining relevant? That’s not how quarantine works. You quarantine when you get to your destination surely?
As supposed to before and then being exposed to potentially a few hundred others in an airport and on a trans Atlantic flight.

..........................
It will be a private yet

The Royal family are not required to isolate.
America isnt a Red Country even if he wasnt a royal.

He is isolating now so when he comes over, he doesnt potentially give the family something that he already has
@VinylDetective to be fair he actually didn't. I completely misremembered that and I apologise.

It's really not ever been okay to be racist afaik so not sure that him being a product of his time stands up.
You don’t see an apology here very often - respect.

I think the definition of racism has changed a lot, a lot of what used to be perfectly normal is considered appalling now. I could never stop my (completely non racist, born 1918) mum referring to a particular colour as n*** brown.

BananaPop2020 · 20/02/2021 20:52

@Dobbyafreeelf I have not at all implied that the Duke’s poor health is the fault of the Sussexes. That would be ridiculous and unfounded. What I did say was that their actions this week have been clunky and bad taste given the circs of the DofE. The whole thing is played out like a game, even down to the Eugenie baby pics today. It’s tactical and balanced on both sides. However, given the desperation of some to label Philip a ‘national treasure’, any perceived disrespect won’t sit well.

Lochmorlich · 20/02/2021 20:52

@Fuckingcrustybread agree totally.
They probably tell people to #be kind on sm.

EdithWeston · 20/02/2021 20:52

@halcyondays

It’s not looking good is it? I don’t think they would have anyone visiting unless they feared the worst.They keep hospital visiting to a minimum even in normal times and I don’t think they would visit now without good reason even if the hospital allowed it. It’s sad to think of PP or the Queen not being around, they’ve always just been there.

Apparently Prince Charles is staying in London tonight. There haven’t been any more updates from the Palace.

His children have visited him during previous hospitalisations. This is not unprecedented
DareIask · 20/02/2021 20:53

@VinylDetective that particular shade was pretty much the norm in our house too, and was stated as fact and in no way derogatory.

But it always made me wince

poptartqueen · 20/02/2021 20:55

@Countdowntonothing

New theory: PP needs a kidney or liver and Charles has offered to donate so 30min visit was a pre op assessment.

Just my mind musing on possibilities. Absolutely no evidence to suggest this is actually the case.

The D of E is 99. Charles is first in line to throne. The Queen would not allow it even if the medics were foolish enough to suggest such a ridiculous thing,
poptartqueen · 20/02/2021 20:57

@8bitgame

Nigel Farage has said on Twitter there is a "big announcement" due tonight after 10pm. Which may or may not be connected. Or just Nigel trying to make himself relevant.
News flash Nigel Farage is known as Big Dickus in his dream
poptartqueen · 20/02/2021 20:58

@LittleDoritt

Visiting at our hospital is for EOL which is "three hours or less" to live. Although I'm sure that the Royals don't have to follow commoners rules.
At ours it was allowed all day the day before.
CherryRoulade · 20/02/2021 20:59

@nimbuscloud

Source? Our son has been making phone calls this afternoon to inform some that their leave is cancelled.

I’m sure he would be thrilled to know that presumably confidential information he shared with you is now being shared with Mumsnet 🤔

There was no suggestion it was confidential. Military officer phones people at weekend. No suggestion as to why; I’m putting two and two together. 100 year old man is sufficiently unwell to be admitted to hospital. If the situation develops, it will be all over the news in minutes.

Meanwhile some military personnel lose their leave. Hardly a state secret. It’s not an official secret just because they dress in camouflage sometimes. Who are you thinking could sell this rather vague information?

Livelovebehappy · 20/02/2021 20:59

bananapop2020 why is the only Royal you have time for Camilla? I’m really struggling to see what she has done above and beyond anyone else in the Royal Family? She just tags on with Charles to his engagements as far as I can see. She serves no purpose within the Royal Family.

lazylump72 · 20/02/2021 21:02

Just sat here flabberghasted...some idiot on another social media platform has just said Prince Philip already died and his son was their to make arrangements hence only staying for 30 mins...the mind, well my mind anyway boggles at how some peoples minds work never mind their need to impart such hurtful trash....dear me.

@BananaPop2020. No you implied very clearly that H&M deliberately released their statement at the same time as PP being ill. Or released it because he was ill. Therefore implying they are at fault for the timing. They are not. That statement will have been scheduled for weeks. It's nothing more than bad timing.

They clearly couldn't wait any longer as it's clear from the photo they released (which they did before PP was hospitalised anyway) that she's showing.
The second statement was clearly a defence of their position.

@LittleDoritt

That was kind of the rule of the hospital I worked at. But in reality “time left” is so very hard to predict that some relatives end up with 24 hours visiting rights to their loved ones & others didn’t even make it to the ward in time.
user141635812632 · 20/02/2021 21:06

The BBC report links to the hospital's website where it lists the two scenarios in which visitors are allowed. One of them doesn't apply, so it is as tactful a way as possible to indicate which it is without having to actually spell it out.

This is the exact same way the BBC reported on Captain Tom.

"Family are with him. Hospital website says x. Please join the dots between 1 and 2 yourselves."

I don't know if it's an attempt to give people a chance to start processing/preparing mentally. Because this will be upsetting for plenty of people beyond the family if this is what is occurring.

LadyCatStark · 20/02/2021 21:09

I think he should try to live long enough to get a telegram from his wife though!

Pimlicojo · 20/02/2021 21:09

Vinyldetective my mum, born in the 1920s also used to say 'n' brown as a colour. Horrifying now, but she was a product of her time and it was just an expression. She wasn't racist at all, in fact she was quite the opposite.

Emmelina · 20/02/2021 21:10

Whatever Farage is cheeping on about is unlikely to be related to the Duke - if he has passed, we won’t know until 8am the following day. It’s typical protocol for a sign to be placed outside the palace announcing such things, I think.

allycat4 · 20/02/2021 21:10

The Telegraph has reported this as less dramatic - they are allowed a visit apparently as both vaccinated.

AlternativePerspective · 20/02/2021 21:10

Jesus. The day we start taking the tabloids and the words of Nigel Farrage as Gospell the country is well and truly fucked.
