Can we list the inconsistencies in F.R.I.E.N.D.S just for funsies?

I know it’s probably been done many times before but I’ve just noticed one I can’t believe I hadn’t seen before!

  • when Joey is about to act in the war film with Gary Oldman, Phoebe doesn’t know who they fought in WW1 but in the Thanksgiving episode she was a nurse in the same war in a previous life.

So she would have known they fought the Germans!

@RosieLemonade

I don't think they often repeat clothes in sitcoms. I think it is a way to advertise.
Sheldon Cooper wears a very limited range of clothes.
mnahmnah · 09/02/2021 16:03

@Maireas

Yes, it doesn’t excuse the clothes thing!

Maireas · 09/02/2021 16:17

Monica's wedding dress is nothing like the one she fought that woman Megan for. I know she lost it in the end (because of the Swing Kings) but couldn't she get one similar from Kleinman's?

Saying if anybody asks who lives there her date should say she's an old woman or something.

That’s when she’s flirting with Joey and he gets his kit off because she asked if he wanted lemonade!

That reminds me of another one - in the flashback episode of how Monica and Chandler get together in London her hair and dress are nothing like what she wore in the original episode!
Maireas · 09/02/2021 16:26

Oh, good spot.

GlitchStitch · 09/02/2021 16:41

Also when she is wearing the dress that she fought for and telling Chandler she needs to return it, it is a completely different dress to the one in the shop.

mnahmnah · 09/02/2021 16:46

@adrianmolesmole

Oh I need to see a side picture comparison of that!! I wonder why?

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 09/02/2021 16:48

Yes the dress she tries on in the wedding shop and decides to buy in the sale in kleinmans is totally different than the one she actually fights over and buys in kleinmans.

Flittingaboutagain · 09/02/2021 16:53

You ladies are gooood! I missed these dress ones

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 09/02/2021 17:01

@Maireas

I know what you mean, *@mnahmnah*, but I think they could still have repeated clothes (small point, really, but it does irk me!) The hospital scenes - inexplicably no Rachel parents at Emma's birth, unless we use the same logic, that they visited when we weren't watching.
But after the first few seasons the women had all become such fashion icons (ok, maybe not icons but certainly that's a large part of what they were famous for, how they looked) so it would have detracted from the star factor of the show a lot if they just went about in the same jeans as last week.

Sheldon Cooper is a very specific example of the opposite type of character!

Gottalovesummer · 09/02/2021 17:05

Oh I've got a couple that always bothered me when I watch!

Monica is a clean freak but let's people put their feet up on her coffee table wearing shoes That would give me a heart attack and I'm not a clean freak.

Also, her kitchen is far too cluttered for a clean/neat freak.

RosieLemonade · 09/02/2021 17:07

@VanGoghsDog I don't think many magazines had fashion features on Sheldon Cooper. Most characters in sitcoms do not repeat outfits. Even if they were the same type of outfit it won't be a repeat.

Maireas · 09/02/2021 17:08

Yes, the women (particularly Rachel) were noted for their fashion choices, so giving them new fashionable items each time was understandable, especially as Rachel got a discount. Possibly less understandable, though, in the case of Phoebe!

Hmm I may have mixed up the dresses. She wore two red dresses at Ross & Emily's wedding - a red flowery one the night she got it on with Chanandler, and the red plain, long one. The flowery one IS slightly different in the flashback ep though, but I was thinking of the red plain one - she wore that on the wedding day itself.

Been a while since I saw these eps - bear with me while I figure out how do pics (I'm still working lol!)

RidiculousRagdoll · 09/02/2021 17:42

I could be wrong, but one episode Phoebe was singing loudly outside Central Perk and a guy runs back and gets a condom from her which he'd put in her guitar case instead of money. I'm sure that's Frank jr? But before they'd even met as brother and sister!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 09/02/2021 17:45

Yeah it's the same guy - I'm sure I read somewhere they brought him back as the brother. It wasn't meant to actually 'be' Frank.

GellerYeller · 09/02/2021 17:52

@adrianmolesmole I have a theory that it was in reference to an episode in Sex & the city around that time, where Carrie kind of disses Friends - "we don't all live in massive colourful apartments" or something like that she said in an episode. I sort of remember a short while after Friends mentioned the rent control issue!
There was a meme doing the rounds that Ross said Rachel at the altar as he had been watching Helen Baxendale (Emily) playing Rachel in Cold Feet 😂
I'd like to know why they never had the wedding at the museum seeing as that's what made Chandler propose?!
And yes to people putting their feet in the coffee table- what cleaning enthusiast has a white sofa too?! Asking for trouble surely!

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 09/02/2021 18:03

Yes the flashback episode dress for the wedding rehearsal (not the long red bridesmaid dress) is different than in the original episode.

Also- the dress Monica collected for Emily is different than the dress Emily actually wore to get married.

GlitchStitch · 09/02/2021 18:42

I think Emily wears the same dress, she just adds a jacket to it and doesn't have the veil that Monica wore when she was trying it on.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 09/02/2021 18:48

No there are little silvery wing type things on top of the front over her bust when Emily wears it, not there when Monica wears it. Other than that it’s very similar.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 09/02/2021 18:54

It’s a tiny difference tbf

Plonque · 09/02/2021 18:58

Helen baxendale got pregnant between the seasons and was something like 5-6m gone when they filmed the wedding so they had to naked some hasty rearrangements, apparently.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 09/02/2021 19:02

That’s right! That’s why most of her phone scenes after the wedding were of her in bed with a duvet pulled up!

NotMyPremium · 09/02/2021 19:10

Yeah Emily's dress was the same, no headdress though and she added the jacket.

Monica's wedding dress definitely changed. The expensive one she originally tried on was not the same as the Kleinmans one, then when she showed Chandler it was the expensive one again. Then the one she chose was nothing like the one she originally liked.

The inconsistency in dates and the flashbacks does irritate me. Especially when Rachel is introduced to Chandler, erm...you met him loads of times!

Phoebe definitely gets less nice though and Joey becomes a thick twat that's just too unbelievable. The French one really grates.
