I know it’s probably been done many times before but I’ve just noticed one I can’t believe I hadn’t seen before!

 • when Joey is about to act in the war film with Gary Oldman, Phoebe doesn’t know who they fought in WW1 but in the Thanksgiving episode she was a nurse in the same war in a previous life.

So she would have known they fought the Germans!

Loving this thread Grin

When Rachel takes Emily's place on the plane at the last minute and flies to Greece on her ticket and stays in her hotel without Ross there! She said it was humiliating because the hotel staff said to her "Oh Mrs Geller, why you cry"?

So was she pretending to be Emily all that time? Did she commit international fraud and identity theft?!

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 08/02/2021 18:43

@ArmsClary

I've said this many times over the years about Friends, early seasons were intelligently funny, sharp, witty...when you compare it to season 8 it's like another show altogether, I can't believe it's the same people writing it (was it even then?). Totally dumbed-down, unbelievable crap.

The whole 'my boss wants to buy my baby' then being awarded another month's paid maternity after Joey shouts at Mr Zellner...and don't even get me started on the Joey speaks French episode Confused

This!

But this happens with pretty much every single tv show that goes beyond about 3, possibly 4 seasons. They run out of originality and start jumping the shark.

Grin

So true! She wouldn’t even have gotten past the boarding gate with the ticket saying Emily Waltham and her passport saying Rachel green.

also, I am sure Joey says "I'll have you know that Gloria Tribbiani was a handsome woman in her day, alright? You think it's easy giving birth to seven children?"

and then suddenly there are seven sisters...plus joey, so eight!

SuperbGorgonzola · 08/02/2021 18:53

You just wonder if at any point the actors or the original writers or someone would say "Monica wouldn't behave like that, Monica would care about X not Y". They lived and beathed thiose characters for ten seasons!

RomeoLikedCapuletGirls · 08/02/2021 19:10

And how they had so much money to go flitting about on international flights at the drop of a hat: Ross to London to catch Emily, Chandler to Yemen.

Oh, and when Emily successfully conveyed a message to Ross through her answering machine, through a closed window to him listening outside in the pavement! That would NEVER happen!

Phoebe's vaginal birth to triplets in the American health system always makes me laugh!

"Actually, having three babies is not all that different to having one" - said no obstetrician, ever!

In an early episode Phoebe refers to her friend 'Abbie who shaves her head'. In a later series her name has changed to Bonnie, who dates Ross.

I just figured Phoebe had more than one friend who shaved her head!

Why did Monica and Richard get invited to Barry and Mindy's wedding? I know they clearly all lived in the same place growing up but obviously Monica was not close to either of them to warrant an invitation so was Richard close to either Barry or Mindy? Was he invited to Rachel and Barry's wedding? So many questions!

And the best man's speech is almost exclusively about Rachel!

@JengaJanga

Have you ever googled there names and pressed the icon to the right....

They are all different

You have made my day! Thank you JengaJanga that is ace Grin

Phoebe is one massive inconsistency Grin

DappledOliveGroves · 08/02/2021 22:38
@VanGoghsDog ...type a character's name into google and then return...on the right at the top is a collection of pic and a little bio, next to where it says Character Name/Fictional Character there is a small logo

Click it!
This is brilliant!!!!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 08/02/2021 22:56

It always bothers me when there’s a hospital scene - prime example Rachel having Emma that all the friends wander in and out of the ward - would never happen

adrianmolesmole · 08/02/2021 22:56

Click the Ross geller one several times! It gets funnier and funnier.

GellerYeller · 09/02/2021 00:31

They all get each other jobs in massive big city institutions! Phoebe temping as Chandler's assistant, Joey as a data processor at Chandler's place, Joey working as a museum guide where no one sits together for lunch?! He waited tables for Monica's restaurant too although that's a bit more believable I suppose. Phoebe as an extra on Days of our Lives... I never really found Rachel going from serving at Central Perk to high flyer in fashion in record time very realistic either.

Heatherjayne1972 · 09/02/2021 07:16

How come Monica and Chandler were allowed to take both babies home?
(Apart from the fact that there’s no way a twin birth could be a surprise in that situation)
Where we’re the social services ? Why weren’t the bings even asked if they wanted two kids ? If it was such a surprise how come they had all the equipment ready for two babies ?

So unrealistic

Maireas · 09/02/2021 08:04

The kitchen window at Monica's does look outside - there's a paired window in the hallway. The diagram pp above shows how it works.
The only thing that annoys me is that they never lock the doors, and people just come in and out.

Maireas · 09/02/2021 08:06

Did Pete Becker ever become the Ultimate Fighting Champion? Or did he become a tech billionaire?

LadyCatStark · 09/02/2021 08:53

Chandler is scared of dogs in one episode yet previously stroked them quite happily. He was meant to be unable to cry yet was able to cry in previous episodes.

When Phoebe visits her birth mom a door mysteriously open all by itself on camera!

Tamingofthehamster · 09/02/2021 09:07

If Phoebe’s dad is the one on the couch in central perk, does that mean she was never related to Frank Junior and that Frank Senior wasn’t her dad?

NoTeaForMe · 09/02/2021 09:14

Mindy was supposed to be Rachel’s maid of honour when she was set to marry Barry, so they must have been close friends at some point. I figured that she still wanted Rachel as part of her wedding even after everything. Rachel does talk about whether she should go or not.

PowerslidePanda · 09/02/2021 09:19

I thought the guy on the couch was Frank Senior (i.e. Frank Junior's dad too).

Tamingofthehamster · 09/02/2021 09:31

Thanks Panda, I didn’t remember that bit.

Alexindiamondarmour · 09/02/2021 10:14

With the Chandler crying bit - I can’t remember which order this goes in but there is the episode where he can’t cry, and then something sets him off and opens the floodgates. But there’s also the episode where the duck eats the wedding ring and they have to go to the vet, and when they find out the duck is alright they get emotional and pretend they’ve got something in their eyes and have to leave etc.
So he can cry!

Alexindiamondarmour · 09/02/2021 10:15

Yes I think the guy on the couch is Frank Buffay (doesn’t he say his name at the funeral for Phoebe’s grandma and that’s how she knows who he is?)

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 09/02/2021 10:18

Yes couch man is frank Buffay, biological father of phoebe and frank junior.

He also cried (a lot) at his and monika's engagement!
