How does one fart?

Reading a post today about someone's DP farting whist she ate and another about adult DSS comic farting I started wondering, what is fart etiquette in your relationship/family/home?

Do people fart openly? Leave the room? Leave the bed before releasing? Say 'excuse me'? Laugh each time? What is typical fart behaviour?

Never in someone else's presence. Just no.

SameToo · 25/01/2021 10:36

We don’t do it in front of each other. Sometimes it happens by accident and we just ignore it.

My Ex used to let rip with trumps and burps and I honestly found it stomach turning.

I also need never to see him on the loo or he see me on the loo!

lol.

I just really can't stand folk farting near me. I don't like the smell of guts. 😂

VettiyaIruken · 25/01/2021 10:49

Leave the room if possible. If it's a surprise one, a simple excuse me works fine.

My dad used to cock his leg like a dog and push them out. 🤮 He always had the sofa to himself.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 25/01/2021 10:50

I live on my own so far when I like. I have a problem because farting is a side effects of the drugs I'm on. I never do it in front of anyone else.

Crowsaregreat · 25/01/2021 10:58

I've been wondering this OP! To date we've been a merry farting household but DD is 4 and I think we need to start teaching her some manners. It's ok making a choice to do gross things, different if you don't know any better.

I had an ex where we did not fart in front of each other. I used to get up in the night to parp in the en suite!

CounsellorTroi · 25/01/2021 11:13

I remember when I first started dating DH he came up and hugged me from behind and I let one rip. He pretended to be blown across the room. I knew then he was a keeper.

Biscoffaddict · 25/01/2021 11:15

Someone I work with realised they possibly had Covid when their son farted and they couldn’t smell it. They received a positive test result a few days later.

purplecorkheart · 25/01/2021 11:23

I try not to fart in front of anyone. I find it amazing that people over the age of twelve find them so funny to be honest.

MoonBabyAndMe · 25/01/2021 11:23

We are competitive farters in our house. I wouldn't dream of leaving the room to fart! DS who is 2 loves to shout trump when he does one and then if he hears me or DP doing one he will shout stink Grin

Turnedouttoes · 25/01/2021 11:28

My DP is very prudish and finds farts disgusting. He has never farted in front of me (which I’m very glad of Grin) and I’ve only done it twice when it’s just slipped out and I didn’t know it was coming.

He’s equally horrified if I accidentally burp occasionally. I do wonder how he will cope when we have children and he’s likely to witness many more bodily functions

Whyistheteacold · 25/01/2021 11:30

I am an adult, and generally able to hold my farts in until either my partner leaves the room or I leave the room for a different reason. If I accidentally farted I would probably laugh and apologise.

amusedbush · 25/01/2021 11:33

I never fart in front of anyone. Weirdly I’m fine about burping! If it’s a particularly impressive one I say ‘...announced the king’ afterwards Grin

DH farts constantly, though. He often asks me to rate them out of 10.

Givemeabreak88 · 25/01/2021 12:17

I’m so glad it’s not just me that doesn’t do it in front of anyone I’ve never done it in front of a partner not even accidentally, it really grosses me out when couples say they have farting competitions and stuff, yuck, literally vile.

MustardMitt · 25/01/2021 12:18

Often in our house.

I draw the line at when we’re eating though.

LemonSherbetFancies · 25/01/2021 12:20

Always feel embarrassed farting in front of DP, luckily hasn't happened yet.

CandleWick4 · 25/01/2021 12:22

This is actually a pretty interesting thread, how different people behave.
So we’re half and half, DH farts freely and loudly (he never smells though). I fart in front of him regularly but only him. No one else and only accidental in front of DC. My DC (2 girls) aren’t very farty but when they do they give a giggle and say ‘oh I just farted’. They know it’s not something to do in front of others and not at the table.
I honestly couldn’t imagine not having a fart or a wee in front of my DH. He watched me give birth twice so the odd fart is no big deal Hmm

terriblyangryattimes · 25/01/2021 12:23

We all do it, kids and adults alike. We also all blame the cat, even if it is nowhere to be seen.

wizzbangfizz · 25/01/2021 12:23

Leave the room, I'd never put up with a farting, or belching partner. It is revolting.

TyroTerf · 25/01/2021 12:25

I have a seven year old with age-typical humour capacities, so no fart passes unacknowledged in this house. We have been known to apologise for particularly stinky ones.

When her father lived here, I farted whenever the need took me, but he was banned from doing it, because they were just too noxious every single time.

Lelophants · 25/01/2021 12:27

Never purposely done it in front of each other. Accidents get a snigger and swift move on.

Baby can do what he wants. Grin

SilverOtter · 25/01/2021 12:28

We all fart freely in thus house, apart from at mealtimes or around anyone who is eating.

Lelophants · 25/01/2021 12:28

Been with dh 10 years. He's seem be give birth, blood on pads, everything! But never farted or gone to the toilet in front of him. I just can't. I just want it private. Luckily he's the same.

Lelophants · 25/01/2021 12:29

We're the same. For some reason it seems less gross with our ds.
