Will anyone else miss Trump a bit?

Yes, the guys a complete git. But at a time when the news has been dominated by endless brexit or endless covid, he did supply entertainment value, in 'what an arse, can't believe he said that' sort of way.

I think I'll miss it a bit.

OP posts:
derxa · 19/01/2021 19:21

Unfunny comedians will miss him. Still they've got Boris Johnson, Pritti Patel Jacob Rees Mogg. Up here we've got Nicola Sturgeon

Jaypreen · 19/01/2021 19:23

Yes I agree. Trump hired and fired them which says a lot about his lack of judgement in some regards.

I don't accept he cosied up to Erdogan, Putin and KJU at all. Quite the opposite if anything.

Jaypreen · 19/01/2021 19:24

BTW which allies are you claiming he "alienated"?

HmmSureJan · 19/01/2021 19:37

Didn't the Obama administration "build the cages"?

Roussette · 19/01/2021 19:41

Umm.... hang on a minute... he talked of love letters from Kim Jong Un. How he was a great man, a real leader, a strong man blah blah.

He flattered and bigged up Ergodan and even talked himself about how close he was with him and said Ergodan would only listen to him out of all the world leaders. Trump bragged about their close personal relationship.

And let's not forget Putin, Trump and Helsinki....
plus he wanted Russia back in the G7. He went on and on about that.

So how you can say he didn't cosy up to them I have no idea.

Jaypreen · 19/01/2021 19:44

Yes, but that never seems to be remembered when talking about this topic.

He also bombed seven different countries, allowed Hillary to decimate Libya. He escalated a killer drone programme which was responsible for the bombing of hospitals and wedding parties in Eastern Pakistan and all over Afghanistan.

Obama was a megalomaniac if ever there was one. Yet he gets fawned over as a hero for some bizarre reason.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 19/01/2021 19:44

Not at all. He makes my skin creep. If you find him entertaining in any way, shape, or form OP I would encourage you to really try to understand the implications of having had such an arsehole heading up one of the world's superpowers. Really not entertaining at all, just very, very scary.

TooTrueToBeGood · 19/01/2021 19:45

@Jaypreen

Are you having a laugh? Perhaps you missed the thorough snubbing Pompeo got when he tried to go on a visit to the EU last week.
Roussette · 19/01/2021 19:47

Allies? All of them.

He berated Australia. He insulted Canada and Trudeau. He called the Danish PM nasty for not selling Greenland to him!

France, Germany, Mexico, Sweden, UK... I can't go through each incident.

Roussette · 19/01/2021 19:50

OK.... your claims are getting more and more ridiculous JayPreen so I'm outta here...

Incidentally....
21 hours 9minutes 5 seconds

Hooray.

LindaEllen · 19/01/2021 19:51

He was entertaining to a point. I found myself laughing at what he was posting on Twitter. Sometimes I actually gasped out loud.

But that is NOT the kind of person we want as a president!!

stargirl1701 · 19/01/2021 19:53

No. He was dangerous to the entire world.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 19/01/2021 20:01

Yes Trump isn't in the least bit likeable but so what? That doesn't mean he or the Kennedy's had to be a bad presidents - anyone could potentially grow into the job and they are surrounded by civil servants who will protect the USA from their worst accesses anyway

This makes even less sense than Trump himself

Geordieoldgirl · 19/01/2021 20:03

I think Trump was utterly unfit for the office of POTUS, but sometimes he was hilarious.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/01/2021 20:18

@Justbetweenus

All this talk about Trump’s “achievements” in the ME ... what exactly are they?
A real tan, for a change?
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/01/2021 20:25

@Jaypreen you've misunderstood. That link you shared states that that particular photo of children in cages is fake. That's all.

The facts.

MacDuffsMuff · 20/01/2021 08:04

@Jaypreen talking about the Kennedys is irrelevant. They've been gone for decades and I would very much doubt if any posters were adults during their time so what you're saying is likely based on what you've read or watched or heard second/third hand. Important, yes. But not the same as seeing and hearing something unfold with your own eyes and ears.

We've been watching Trump become more hysterical, more unhinged and more dangerous, ourselves over the last few years. I'm astounded by the people that support this man and can't see him for what he is based on what they've seen him do.

Abhannmor · 20/01/2021 09:36

No.

Witchend · 20/01/2021 09:38

Ds was most disappointed he got banned from Twitter. He found his tweets hilarious.

Abhannmor · 20/01/2021 09:40

Peace deal in the middle east. How did I miss that Grin

Whatwouldnanado · 20/01/2021 09:41

Following with interest. I have an English dear life long friend, (teacher, intelligent and outward looking) who has lived in South Carolina for many years. Politics doesn't usually play a part in our direct conversation. Lately she has shared pro Trump social media posts and I am horrified. As an 'outsider' across the pond what am I missing? Before urging me to ask her, I probably won't have to because she will tell me in time. Just want other people's perspectives

Abhannmor · 20/01/2021 09:45

@Jaypreen

Trump deserves credit for seeking a dialogue.

Just imagine the fawning adulation if that overrated mediocrity Obama had done the same or had achieved what Trump has in the ME?

Israelis were bombarding Gaza again yesterday. Tell us all about Trump's achievements in the Middle East.
Witchend · 20/01/2021 12:47

@Roussette

Allies? All of them.

He berated Australia. He insulted Canada and Trudeau. He called the Danish PM nasty for not selling Greenland to him!

France, Germany, Mexico, Sweden, UK... I can't go through each incident.

Let's be fair, he's done an amazing job in uniting other countries.

In agreement that he's a twit, but still usual for such a consensus across so many people.

I dont think you have the first clue what you're talking about Jaypreen. You think only 59 Tomahawk missiles were used in Syria? bombing hasnt stopped there for the whole times hes been in charge, he just normally orders drone attacks not missiles. He significantly escalated drone attacks in syria and iraq. Notice you cant argue aga9inst him causing the war in Kurdistan. He armed the kurds, encouraged them to form militias then abandoned them suddenly to be decimated by Turkey.

All you have is a wikipedia search for 'trump bombing Syria'. Yeah dont think I didnt realise.....

'The hard-won calm was shattered in early October. Khalaf’s car sped through a countryside once again under bombardment. Less than a week earlier, following a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Trump ordered all U.S. military forces to withdraw from Syria, effectively greenlighting the attack on the Kurds. Turkey had already launched limited military operations along the border in 2016 and 2018 but had been held in check by the American presence. They viewed the Kurds’ main force, the YPG, as an extension of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which it considers a terrorist group. Turkey’s declared intention is to create a 20-mile-deep, 300-mile-long “safe zone” in Kurdish lands, to buffer Turkish territory and resettle millions of Syrian war refugees. But people fear a more malevolent goal. “It has to be understood,” says Kurdish journalist Mohammed A. Salih, a Ph.D. student at the University of Pennsylvania, “as a deliberate act of setting up the Kurds and religious minorities in northeastern Syria for ethnic cleansing.”

I will. And Melanie. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he wasn’t in charge of our country. Grin
