Will anyone else miss Trump a bit?

Yes, the guys a complete git. But at a time when the news has been dominated by endless brexit or endless covid, he did supply entertainment value, in 'what an arse, can't believe he said that' sort of way.

I think I'll miss it a bit.

Don't worry, there will still be plenty of news coverage of him being sued on multiple fronts, investigated by authorities, his businesses tanking, his kids getting tangled in it. Plenty of mess to watch while eating popcorn, it just might involve fewer kids in cages and incitement of white supremacists.

There will also be ongoing violence from the morons who supported him and the politicians like Cruz and Hawley who are keen to step into his fascist boots in time for the next election.

I'll be glad there will be someone in the White House who might just take some steps on climate change.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 19/01/2021 15:20

@surelynotnever

Interesting things are entertaining. News shows are entertainment. The news is just another show, as the song goes. I have watched the news in the past couple of weeks and its been really interesting, thanks. All that stuff at capitol hill is fascinating.
The Capitol Hill events are not for your entertainment. People have died. Does that not concern you at all? As for the fact that you think it is 'entertaining?' Give yer head a wobble. Hmm
LaMarschallin · 19/01/2021 15:23

May you live in interesting times, OP, and I mean the intention behind that.
If you're sure that's what you want.

I'd rather not have to live in them too.

surelynotnever · 19/01/2021 15:26

Of course, judgey pants. What I am interested in is what caused people to behave like that. You'd have to be thick as mince to think that Trump was some evil genius who managed to persuade people to do all that at Capitol hill. All he is is an effective rabble rouser who tapped into something already there.

It might surprise you, but the subject of history is pretty much about Bad Things that happened. And yes, historians find their subject interesting, fascinating and entertaining.

You won't be able to miss him, he'll still be there! Just without a finger on the nuclear button Smile

My bet is that he will set up his own TV channel, something he's reportedly wanted to do for a long time. He hates the mainstream media (and they loathe him back) so I think he's going to try to rival them with Trump TV. And the fact that his online platforms have been removed are going to mean he's even more desperate to find an outlet!

Kinda weird to invoke that Chinese curse on someone who clearly is, like the rest of the world, living in interesting times.

@Jaypreen

He literally incited a riot people died he has control of the military he is a powerful and charismatic man people like to follow him That's very much a matter of opinion. But where's the correlation between that and his potentially causing nuclear Armageddon. Especially considering he's the only president in over thirty years not to start a new war?
Who said anything about nuclear armageddon? I think your reading a little too much into my comment here

Also im entitled to my opinion Hmm

FamilyOfAliens · 19/01/2021 15:30

@Jaypreen

I don't like the man but he hasn't been all that bad. in the Middle East, where for decades Western 'experts' and 'diplomats' 'knowingly' insisted that there could be no rapprochement of Arab states and Israel without solving the Israel-Palestinian problem... Trump by-passed that and succeeded. I know that it grates on the sensitivities of many people to acknowledge that Trump might have got a single thing right, but clearly in the Middle East he has.

In regards to the ME what I'm hearing from the Biden/Harris camp is not so encouraging.

Is there any reason why you put the words experts and diplomats in quotes?

Or is that you, Jared?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/01/2021 15:31

Dh started working as a journalist 4 years ago.

His career has been defined by ( he says) writing about Brexit and Trump every single day. And now Covid.

He wants a spell with little or new horrible news!

LaMarschallin · 19/01/2021 15:32

Have you just suddenly happened upon a copy of "1066 and All That"?

Doubtless historians find their subject fascinating etc etc

Would they want to live through much of it?

Even fairly recent history; say, pre-penicillin?

Probably not.

surelynotnever · 19/01/2021 15:32

"Who said anything about nuclear armageddon?"

@Theunamedcat you said he could blow us all up. Not that much of a leap to think you meant nuclear war.

I really don't get why you keep banging on about 'do I want to live through it' when clearly I am. I find it a really odd line for you to take.

People living through shit things often cope by finding the dark humour in them. This is such a well known phenomena, it has its own term.

No, OP, not "kinda" weird.
Just pointing out that I won't miss what you see as "entertainment value" and what I see as adding to worrying events happening in the world.

Well done for showing you knew it was a Chinese curse though.

Now haven't you got a Zoom afternoon assembly to attend?

ProudAuntie76 · 19/01/2021 15:37

No I fucking well won’t. He’s evil and has done untold damage to the world.

FamilyOfAliens · 19/01/2021 15:38

Do you mean phenomenon?

bluecheesefan · 19/01/2021 15:38

There is not an atom in my being that will miss him in the slightest.

Good riddance, and I hope that the global media has the good sense not to allow him a soapbox.

Jaypreen · 19/01/2021 15:38

Because you wrote The idea that he could blow us all up was scary.

I dont think it's unreasonable of me to assume that you meant by that, that you believe that he could start a nuclear war.

Also of course you are entitled to have an opinion. Who said otherwise? In fact I welcome your opinion.

Jaypreen · 19/01/2021 15:39

Can you explain what you mean by untold damage to the world ?

Fair enough.

You want to cope with living in bad times by finding the humour in then.

I can find humour too, but I'm relieved if the risks get ratcheted down by removing a potentially dangerous factor like Trump.

Even if you get fewer shits and giggles.

Popsy321 · 19/01/2021 15:42

You don't half have a low bar.

ZenNudist · 19/01/2021 15:43

No. It's fascinating but I won't miss it.

Anyone else worried he's going to do something else drastic in the next few hours?

surelynotnever · 19/01/2021 15:46

For someone who clearly thinks of themself as a 'Good Person' you aren't half aggressive and unpleasant @LaMarschallin Finding it hard to see you on the moral high place that you clearly see yourself occupying.

Oversize · 19/01/2021 15:46

You do realise that according to exit polls, Trump grew his support among black voters by 50 % over 2016. He also increased his share of the national Hispanic vote to 35%. With 60% or less of the national Hispanic vote. He also did rather well with muslim voters. Do these people qualify as potential morons?

Gosh, sweetie, you don't rate me?

Try to imagine my chagrin...**

Now, get a move on with your homework.

*'Good Person'
Where did I say that?
Obviously, I am...

**Don't waste a great deal of time on that.
It's pretty much non-existent.
