Sitting here waiting for the man to repair my heating and I thought I’d start a new book. It’s an out of print one from the 1970s that I’d been searching for ages. I picked it up and flipped through to find a rather surprising bookmark. I’ll post it a bit later just to keep you all guessing. 😀

I wonder though, have you ever flipped through a book and found something odd, surprising, intriguing or unexpected? I would love to hear about it. 🙂

Why would it be Isambard? He had nothing to do with either of the Severn Bridges...

Santaiscovidfree · 12/01/2021 14:09

Once gave my dd £200 to look after for me. She lost it.
Turned up inside a magazine when we packed to move. As a sleepwalker she often hid things. Usually the rent money in pans in the kitchen!

FenellaVelour · 12/01/2021 14:09

My first thought was wrapped condom. No idea why!

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 12/01/2021 14:09

A page from someone's diary.
SiL gave me a box of old books a few years back and inside one if them was a page from a great aunts diary.

biddybird · 12/01/2021 14:09

@Askance what was the title of the book you found the 4-leaf clover in?

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 12/01/2021 14:09

Because he had to be held back from turning up at all the new bridge openings - obviously!

No, but one of their company vans has driven past a number of times. I think he’s lost... 🙁

Is it a sock?

A used condom? Envy

cloudengel · 12/01/2021 14:13

I once found a sticker in a second hand book, which said "Please Send Chocolate" on it. We thought it might be a call for help.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 12/01/2021 14:13

tell him to get a bloody move on - I've got things to do Grin

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 12/01/2021 14:14

Seems to be a bit of a theme on this thread! 😂

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 12/01/2021 14:16

used condom? all dried up?

BrokenCircle · 12/01/2021 14:16

I once found someone’s dream diary, in the form of a small notebook, tucked into a library book. It made for quite amusing reading. Nothing filthy though.

Me too, no idea what that says about us! Grin

20 years ago I wrote my bf (now dh) an absolutely filthy, graphic letter about what we were going to do to eachother next time we met up (long distance relationship). He put it safely in a book. 3 house moves later and he's no idea where that books ended up. I feel panicky every time I think about it!

Its not a dirty love letter is it?!

Sick · 12/01/2021 14:21

I once found £600 in a new book!

StCharlotte · 12/01/2021 14:25

If it was one of my books it will almost certainly have a train ticket in it from when I used to visit my mum before I learned to drive.

Dull.

unlikelytobe · 12/01/2021 14:26

Do people still leave books in random places for strangers to find, read and pass on? I found one in a trolley outside a supermarket once. The message inside asked me to enjoy the book then leave it somewhere else for the next person - like a chain. I read it then left it in Iceland (the country not the store!) Wonder where it is now.

Haha. How mortifying! It isn’t a dirty love letter but it could be considered quite raunchy. That’s my second clue. No one picked up on my first. I’ll repeat it. One of the first ten posters was very close!

Come on Miss Marples, there is a very obvious question you could have asked me!

Any chance it could have been put there by @Santaiscovidfree 's daughter?
Daydrambeliever · 12/01/2021 14:27

An unused sanitary towel??
