Strange bookmark found in a book.

Sitting here waiting for the man to repair my heating and I thought I’d start a new book. It’s an out of print one from the 1970s that I’d been searching for ages. I picked it up and flipped through to find a rather surprising bookmark. I’ll post it a bit later just to keep you all guessing. 😀

I wonder though, have you ever flipped through a book and found something odd, surprising, intriguing or unexpected? I would love to hear about it. 🙂

A Curly Wurly wrapper...

I love the idea that this could be considered raunchy Grin

A nude photograph with Princess Margaret's head pasted onto it?

LaMarschallin · 12/01/2021 15:03

Or a picture from a really old porn magazine?

Just remembering the time when DH and I stayed in a hotel and I was recounting stories of the days when I worked as a chamber maid.
"We used to check for the porn mags," I said, "on top of the wardrobe and under the bed" suiting my actions to the words...

Well, there was an ancient copy of Mayfair under the bed; so old that Sam Fox was the centre fold and we found it there a couple of years ago!

DH made me put it back Sad

It did make wonder about the cleanliness of the rooms - god knows when they last vacuumed underneath the bed.

Felt it would play out badly on "Four in a Bed".

I found a dead fly in a book, not sure if it was a bookmark though..

winefortea · 12/01/2021 15:06

A garter?

SonjaMorgan · 12/01/2021 15:08

I found a grocery receipt from 1992.

I also found a list/letter that I can only assume was written by someone with dementia who seemed to believe a family member was stealing from them.

VeganSven · 12/01/2021 15:10

Great thread. Why would someone use a bacon rasher (esp a raw one!) for a bookmark though?! 😂

SaltyTootsieToes · 12/01/2021 15:13

@draughtycatflap ooh. You’ve left us hanging.

Bluetrews25 · 12/01/2021 15:14

Why use a bacon rasher?
Because a chop is too thick, obviously! Duh!

apalledandshocked · 12/01/2021 15:14

A used comdom? Envy

LagneyandCasey · 12/01/2021 15:17

A pound note with a Chad cartoon and 'Kev woz ere' written on it?

DodoApplet · 12/01/2021 15:17

Yes - between the leaves of one of the volumes of an old children's encyclopaedia that used to belong to my father: an autographed flyer for a demonstration by Clem ("The Bird Man") Sohn at Hendon Aerodrome in 1936. My father would have been 13 at the time, and had obviously gone to see him on the Bank Holiday that the event took place. Clem Sohn used to jump out of an aeroplane and float to the ground with a homemade wingsuit. He was tragically killed a year later in Vincennes, France when his parachute failed to open.

ScrambledSmegs · 12/01/2021 15:20

An old 'would like to meet' page from the. back of a magazine/newspapers.

Teandsympathy · 12/01/2021 15:21

@AllChangeNat

A photo of my daughter! Turns out the previous book borrower had been my mum.
Now that is a coincidence! Was it a library book?
CostaDelCovid · 12/01/2021 15:21

Unused Sanitary towel?! (Some men are strange so could consider it raunchy?!)

Condom box?!

Hotel keycard?

Slide of viagra/birth control pills?!

A whip?!

CostaDelCovid · 12/01/2021 15:23

Porn dvd?!

ScrambledSmegs · 12/01/2021 15:23

@ScrambledSmegs

An old 'would like to meet' page from the. back of a magazine/newspapers.
As opposed to 'would like to meat' which might explain all the bacon.

OneInEight · 12/01/2021 15:23

We sell second hand books so find a lot of interesting things inserted into books - photographs, postcards, book marks, dried flowers the most common things. The most unpleasant thing was a condom!!! Yuk!

CostaDelCovid · 12/01/2021 15:24

Boarding pass for a flight/Eurostar to Paris?!

parietal · 12/01/2021 15:28

what was the book?
