I put them up late and will take them down on Jan1st but there’s a trend of taking them down for Boxing Day now. Does anyone last until 12th night?

Tomorrow. I put them up early and hate them after Christmas. I just want my living room back!

GintyMcGinty · 26/12/2020 19:16

They stay up for Hogmanay and gone town on 1st or 2nd.

Friendsoneuptown · 26/12/2020 19:16

Mine will be down tomorrow or Monday. Same as every year. Christmas is over, well will be tomorrow/Monday and I have no interest in New Year.

Mine go up 1st because Christmas is December to Boxing Day for us as a family. I have no interest in twelfth night etc either.

WhereYouLeftIt · 26/12/2020 19:16

I usually take them down on 31st De, to go into the New Year afresh. This year I might leave them up a bit longer!

LST · 26/12/2020 19:18

I normally take mine down on the 31st December. But the kitten is doing my head in knocking cards over and pulling everything off the tree.. so I might start tomorrow.

funfunfunfunfun · 26/12/2020 19:20

I've started taking some bits down, only got the tree still up which will be down on Monday.

Megan2018 · 26/12/2020 19:22

12th night always. People who do it early are miserable buggers

cushioncovers · 26/12/2020 19:23

Mine will come down on Sunday, hate the bloody things so can't wait to be of them.

I don't see how being really happy about getting my living room all clear and back to normal makes me a miserable bugger. Confused I love it.

Gosh this post saddens me. Why oh why would anyone take Dec's down boxing day. Its still Christmas and should be enjoyed

Lots of reasons have been given as to why.

Ours are coming down tomorrow. At least, the tree is and the kids pile of stuff will be found homes upstairs. The living room and kitchen will be blitzed and everything will feel fresh again.

Outside lights will stay up til NYD then down they come.

funfunfunfunfun · 26/12/2020 19:30

@Megan2018 I've had my decorations up since the start of December I'm fed up of bits falling off the tee and the cats playing with everything, I want my living room back. Judgemental cow.

Lovelydovey · 26/12/2020 19:32

I’ve started taking ours down - they did go up on Dec 1st though!

Megan2018 · 26/12/2020 19:38

@funfunfunfunfun ours have been up since early Dec too. I do judge you, it’s miserable to want them down early.

gotyerhat · 26/12/2020 19:39

Ours are all down. I really hate Christmas though. If I didn't have DC I wouldn't have a tree.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 26/12/2020 19:42

Mine only went up on Tuesday! They'll stay up until 12th night as that is the actual period of Christmas!

Pyewhacket · 26/12/2020 19:42

2nd Jan

MeowMeowLikeACow · 26/12/2020 19:44

New Year's Day here. It's DD's birthday the next day so I like to try and keep that separate to Christmas IYSWIM.

alex1889 · 26/12/2020 19:46

Our tree is gone. Stripped it of decorations last night once DC were in bed. Tree was dying and dropping needles everywhere and I'd had enough of it taking up so much space.

Stripyhoglets1 · 26/12/2020 19:51

Usually 12th night and definitely never begore 2nd Jan.
Will leave them up till 12th night this year. And might leave some fairy lights up throughout January!

DrunkenKoala · 26/12/2020 19:54

Planning on taking them down on the 2nd. It’s DD’s birthday a few days later and I prefer to have them down by then.

Totally with you. I only do it for the kids.
Ginfordinner · 26/12/2020 20:04

Do the people who take their decorations down early put them up early?

Christmas is now not the beginning of December.

DappledThings · 26/12/2020 20:04

I never bothered with it before now DH moved in. He wanted to so I went along with it. But only on the condition we did it properly. So if we are to have decorations they have to be up for the proper period. So nothing comes down before the 12 days are up.
