Anyone taking their decs down?

I put them up late and will take them down on Jan1st but there’s a trend of taking them down for Boxing Day now. Does anyone last until 12th night?

Our tree has been up less than a week. Boxing Day is still Christmas so I won't take the tree down today. I usually take it down on new year's day. The living room looks bigger and brighter without the tree, which is why I don't like putting it up too early.

Goodmorninglights · 26/12/2020 17:52

No! This is my favourite time, twinkly lights, leftovers, party food, lots recorded on tv and no Christmas related jobs!

FinallyHere · 26/12/2020 17:54

Advent decorations til Christmas Eve, when the tree goes up for the twelve days of Christmas.

It's not house size, we live in a two up, two down + Galley kitchen, so not big. It's just the way everyone I know does it. Christmas is the first day of twelve. Traditionally 12 th night was the biggest celebration of the season. So decs come down after 12th night for me. I'm sorry for people who have to work during Christmas, I admit to being spoilt in that regard, but it's been a very hard year for us all. I really need a reason to celebrate. Merry Christmas, everyone however you spend it.Xmas Grin

I always take mine down on Boxing Day

SecretWitch · 26/12/2020 18:00

Done and dusted here. I did leave the fairy lights though as they are pretty in the evening.

Notchangednametoday · 26/12/2020 18:02

We usually do it before kids go back to school. But the tree is dead so it’s on its final countdown..........we could leave it but it’s driving me mad!! I’d leave everything else up but hating the tree!!

DanaScully53 · 26/12/2020 18:19

I didn't bother putting mine up this year but the cards will come down tonight. Decs usually come down boxing day though on normal years.

Whattheao · 26/12/2020 18:21

They're down and it's bloody great!! Kept some lights up though. Time to move forwards!

doctorhamster · 26/12/2020 18:30

No it's still Christmas! Mine will come down on 3rd I imagine, otherwise they'd have to wait til the 9th.

DappledThings · 26/12/2020 18:32

I'm going to have to hide this thread now. All these decorations down when we haven't even had 3 French hens and are days away from those drummers drumming is making me tense.

LadyEloise · 26/12/2020 18:34

Mine never get taken down til after the 6th January- the Feast of the Epiphany or Little Christmas/ Womens Christmas in Ireland.

stargirl1701 · 26/12/2020 18:46

@FinallyHere 😄

And, the crib scene stays up until Candlemas!

Crakeandoryx · 26/12/2020 18:47

Usually I'm itching but this year I don't care so much. I didn't put as many out and it's actually nice having the lights this year. I don't want stark January..

I normally take them down between Christmas and new year but I'm not in a rush this time.. Think it's because I have fewer out and hardly any cards so the place isn't as cluttered as usual.

😂

Our tree comes down just before the kids go back to school. I might keep the fairy lights up for longer though

Anthilda · 26/12/2020 18:54

Started clearing out clutter and sorting everything that needs to go to the tip when it opens. There is no room to move so I have taken some down. The tree will stay up a bit longer but other accessories have been piled up ready for the loft tommorow.

billy1966 · 26/12/2020 18:54

Put them up a bit later than normal and didn't put up as much as usual.

Will take everything down Jan 1st.

Despite my best efforts just not feeling it this year.

ChrisPriss · 26/12/2020 18:57

Usually New Year's Day, but this year they are annoying me right now because we couldn't have the Christmas celebrations as normal. Bugger.

00100001 · 26/12/2020 18:58

Tomorrow morning

Why? When do you put them up?
KangapooandRoo · 26/12/2020 19:03

I'll do it friday, after a good few days of watching tv and lazing around

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/12/2020 19:11

It’s still Christmas until 12th Night!
Ours come down on 6th January, and I hate to see them go. God knows January is usually dreary enough anyway. Our tree always lasts well, but then we don’t put it up until well into December.

Last year we actually took them down a day or two later, but that was because we had a crack of dawn call on the 6th to go to dd’s, since Gdc 3 was on the way - her arrival certainly brightened up January for us.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 26/12/2020 19:13

I will take mine down on new years eve i think. Start new year fresh. Plus I'm due my third baby on the 25th so don't want to leave it too late. I'm fed up looking at them because we've been in the house so much this Christmas. I put mine up about the 11th I think.
