I put them up late and will take them down on Jan1st but there’s a trend of taking them down for Boxing Day now. Does anyone last until 12th night?

We normally take them down before we go back to school.
So anytime between January and April next year really...

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 26/12/2020 15:05

Everything comes down on New Years Day. I like it all up on NYE but love the house back to normal for a new year. We will throw stuff out , have a deep clean and I really love that feeling!

Posturesorposes · 26/12/2020 15:07

Always up first weekend of December.
Always gone on Boxing Day alongside all Christmas packaging, boxes and trash.
This year too - every shred gone by lunch.

We have a birthday before news years day and not having Christmas around is an important way we keep that birthday distinct and different from generic festivity.

They've been up since November for many around here. I'm not surprised people are sick of them before the day itself!

Mine went up on the 20th for the Solstice and will stay up until 12th night

Juk3 · 26/12/2020 15:29

Took mine down at earlier today, it went up early this year on 1st December and I was so over the mess. Cleaned the living from top to bottom and put all the furniture and lamps back in their correct places. I also cleaned and tidied all the kids bedrooms put all their new stuff away properly while they were out in the local woods with dh.

stargirl1701 · 26/12/2020 15:32

We only decorated on Christmas Eve!

The tree will last til Twelfth Night.

We don't celebrate Christmas whilst observing Advent.

BunnyBoilerRhian · 26/12/2020 15:36

I thought everyonenpit them.up early rhisbyear to cheer the gloom of 2020.so whybrush to take them down? Jan and Feb are going to be mich more hloomyband shit than November ever was.
I bucked the trend as was so miserable and only pit mine up 10 days ago and then only the tree and nothing else.
I generally aimmfor the 12th night but as my husband has fucked off with his younger woman I'll need to get the tree back in the loft before my son returns to uni as I can't manager on my own. So That will dictate exactly when it goes down.

I don't get the Christmas is over on Boxing day thing. Xmas only starts on 24th in our house usually as we all work until then, today is the 2nd day of Xmas. Opening the quality street tin and watching a shit Xmas film in a minute. I have to admit I'm.not feeling remotely Xmassey but as lockdown is likely to run for weeks and weeks yet I'm in no rush to clear Xmas away. It's some kind of different to the rest of the year.

happymummy12345 · 26/12/2020 15:39

Never until the 6th January

AnnieAreYouOkHun · 26/12/2020 15:47

I've taken my cards down today, going to do the tree tomorrow and the rest in a couple of days. They just get so annoying don't they but I'm not ready to end Christmas just yet Grin

NeedWineNow · 26/12/2020 15:49

Not until next weekend. Usually do it the weekend closest to 6 Jan.

DappledThings · 26/12/2020 15:50

Twelfth Night regardless of how early they went up. I don't get the point of putting up Christmas decorations if you are going to take them down while it is still Christmas.

earthyfire · 26/12/2020 15:52

I also have a birthday just before NYE and I like the tree still up for my birthday, the tree was always still up when I was a kid too. I don't understand those who have a birthday just after Christmas and insist the tree comes down. 😂

Roselilly36 · 26/12/2020 15:52

@WorraLiberty that was my first thought too!

CathyorClaire · 26/12/2020 15:54

I have a birthday looming before twelfth night and they'll be down before then.

DM used to think it was nice to leave the decs up for my birthday. I don't. I want a separate event like the rest of the family gets.

Iwasonceabrownie · 26/12/2020 15:55

fairydustandpixies.
Thank goodness, I thought I was the only one not having any decorations.

MadameBlobby · 26/12/2020 15:57

Yeah I’ve seen a few people saying they are taking them down today. I don’t get it myself. Each to their own though.

Cocolapew · 26/12/2020 16:00

Mines down now.

MadameBlobby · 26/12/2020 16:00

@Fizbosshoes

It always feels sad taking decs down.i said to DH as we went for a walk yesterday around the local streets, how bleak january will feel without any xmas lights up.
I’m thinking of trying to persuade my husband to keep our outdoor ones up for a few more weeks
Coffeeislife04 · 26/12/2020 16:03

January 1st alongside a day of cleaning

MeringueCloud · 26/12/2020 16:04

But "taking them down as soon as possible" would mean taking them down on the January as that's the end of Christmas! Otherwise "as soon as possible " could just as well be the day after you put them up! Wink

foreverandalways · 26/12/2020 16:05

My tree with wrapped presents is staying exactly as it is until my daughter is able to travel home here from Surrey.....however long that takes!

MeringueCloud · 26/12/2020 16:09

Always been the day after Boxing Day, make room for the kids presents, have a good clean and have everything straight for New Year.

Maybe if we lived in a bigger house we would leave it a bit longer. But with a shoebox house and a Boxing Day birthday to add to the chaos it just feels cluttered and horrible rather than festive.
