I put them up late and will take them down on Jan1st but there’s a trend of taking them down for Boxing Day now. Does anyone last until 12th night?

Tomorrow for us but we are moving house in 1.5 weeks so I think its fair this year.

Gatekeeper · 26/12/2020 13:27

Tree is down but lights at the window and round house are still up. My dc are 18 and 16 and we have always done this

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 26/12/2020 13:27

I always take them down on 6th Jan. I know it's meant to be bad luck to take them down after that but for some reason in my head it's also bad luck to take them down before!

fastwigglylines · 26/12/2020 13:28

@PotteringAlong

Ours will come down the day before we go back to school
That could be February at this rate! I really wouldn't be surprised if the return to school is further delayed if covid continues to rise.
trevthecat · 26/12/2020 13:30

We put early this year and I have had enough!! The bloody tree is dying, pines everywhere. I'm sick of sweeping.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 26/12/2020 13:34

12th Night for us, I'd hate to see in NY in an undecorated house and they really aren't in the way at all. I hate how bare the house looks when the tree comes down.

Breathmiller · 26/12/2020 13:36

Mine went up on the 19th and will probably come down after another few days.

I love my real tree and get so much happiness from it but I also like when its down again before Hogmany. I like how kuch space there feels like there is after I take it down.

We also knocked a wall down between our living room and kitchen and still have some plastering to get done. But the tree was done the day it came down. So I haven't seen the room in all its spacious glory.

But i will leave it another few days at least.

I think it depends on a few things, how early you put it up and if you have the space for it not to be in the way. And how much you just enjoy it being there. Everyone is different.

Nowaynothappening · 26/12/2020 13:36

Resisting the urge to take them down tbh. Just had a blitz of the house, it was like a bloody obstacle course this morning with the DC’s presents everywhere. Always love putting the decorations up but also love it when they come down and we have the space back.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/12/2020 13:42

Probably sometime next week.
We have to rearrange furniture to get the tree in.

TragedyHands · 26/12/2020 13:45

We take ours down Jan 1st as xmas was then last year.
Always done it this way, followed on from parents doing it.
Only put ours up a few days before though.

TotorosFurryBehind · 26/12/2020 13:46

12th night here too. We put up our real tree mid December and it's still going strong.

Littlemissnutcracker · 26/12/2020 13:47

I will do it New Year's Day or the 2nd I think. I have taken them down before on the 28th or so but dcs love them.

grapewine · 26/12/2020 13:48

They're coming down tomorrow.

Almostslimjim · 26/12/2020 13:50

DH always wants us to remain until 6th but i hate them up after new year. DS gets very upset when they come down and it's his birthday before 6th so I now conceed to leaving them up, so long as DH takes them down.

madcatladyforever · 26/12/2020 13:51

I don't put them up.

Isolatedizzy · 26/12/2020 13:51

I'm in Tier 4 and think I might leave them up until the end of February! 😂 All the Christmas lights are keeping my spirits up at the moment I can't bear to think about how miserable it will be when they come down! 😩

WankPuffins · 26/12/2020 13:51

Mine have gone this morning.

It so good to have it all gone and everything clean. I can actually sit and relax this afternoon rather tha having the fucking tree in the way. My six year old was equally ready for it to be gone before I get accused of being the grinch, she helped me pack it all away.

They went up Dec 15th, that's way long enough.

felttree · 26/12/2020 13:53

Started a clear up of all DC's new toys this morning which turned into taking a few Xmas bits down which led to all the baubles coming off the tree, the tree being put outside and a big hoover up and clean.

I can't see any family now due to new restrictions so don't see the point in keeping it all up. Plus 36 weeks pregnant and want the clean fresh space.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 26/12/2020 13:55

Christmas cards down, Birthday cards up today, Christmas tree and other bits down on Monday, tulips at the ready for a fresh new year 🌷

Madbengalmum · 26/12/2020 13:56

I will take them down tomorrow.

PinkSpring · 26/12/2020 13:57

Ours came down this morning. The children crazed for them to go up end of November and we were fed up of them now. Plus we went into tier 4 and it doesn't feel like Christmas anymore

Honeyroar · 26/12/2020 13:57

My tree is real with roots. It’s outside the front window, so not cluttering up the room. We have lights and decorations along the mantelpiece and a few other things dotted around, but haven’t gone mad this year.

Mine will come down sometime between New Year’s Day and the 6th. I hate this new habit of putting them up in November and taking them down right after Xmas day - like a shop!

WitchFindersAreEverywhere · 26/12/2020 14:00

Lights and wreath up on the 1st, tree up on 13th, decorations down on 2nd.
I love the festival.

Vicliz24 · 26/12/2020 14:02

Absolutely not . It's the second day of Christmas

Gonkytonk · 26/12/2020 14:02

We make a big deal of advent so ours went up early. I’m taking them down tomorrow. Always take them down by NYE at latest. Can’t stand starting a new year with decs up.
