Anyone fancy a new jigsaw thread?

Hello all.

I really enjoyed the last jigsaw thread which was going on during the summer and wondered if anyone fancied sharing any pictures of jigsaws that are currently being done?
I'm nearly finished with my Disney Christmas one. A nice easy one which has only taken me a couple of days.
The weather is grim today so I expect it will be finished very soon! I will post a full picture once it is complete.
Would love to see your jigsaws....

I’ve done my Christmas Wasjigs this week, very disappointed to see that one piece was missing.
My first time doing a Wasjig and really enjoyed them.

Just finished this one, was the first spot the difference we have done. Was fun

Oh I like a good spot the difference, I’ve not seen a jigsaw one before.

Loving the Elf one even though I can’t stand him.

This was a tough jigsaw, the wheel itself was easy but the rest was mostly twigs and pieces fit loosely, so I spent a lot of time unpicking wrongly placed pieces.

I've just completed this one. It was fun.

Got this one for £1 in Smyths a couple of years ago and finally got around to doing it. Took about a week.

Just finished this. Looks easy, but omg it was hard

This was surprisingly difficult, as the pieces are a bit pliable and I spent a lot of time unpicking bits of jigsaw. Also, about 1/3 of it was dark blue or turquoise so there was a lot of brute force trial and error.

Yes that’s a lot of the same colour.

Just finished this one, it was nice and easy except the straight edge.

That looks fun

I'm going in... I'm hoping it won't be beat me!

(Had to buy a roll up thingy as it's 1500 pieces and won't fit in my portapuzzle carrier. Hope it's work)

Bloody hell, that looks tricky 😱

After a long break, but with all the rubbish weather we have had recently, I just finished this. Random purchase from Between the Lines when I went in for a card! The grassy bits were a pain!

Did these two last week, they were nice easy ones.

I collect jigsaw puzzles and have 100’s, mostly 1000 piece, but quite a few are 1500, or 2000. They are stuffed into every available cupboard and wardrobe and I am out of space. I donate some that I buy from charity shops but for the most part I want to keep them as I do redo them occasionally. We don’t have a loft, garage or shed and no space in the garden to make one. I was wondering if anyone had any clever storage ideas? I have looked online in the past but never found anything really. The closest was cutting the image from the box, putting the pieces in a ziplock bag and keeping them taped together inside those big plastic storage tubs which would free up a lot of space, but I like having the boxes and use them when sorting pieces. If anyone has any suggestions I would be really grateful! I have been following this thread since the beginning and some I have but others I don’t and would love to add to my collection 😬 Thanks 🙂

InMySpareTime · 17/02/2024 18:03

@Alohagirl sorry, but the ziplock solution is monstrous.
I keep small jigsaws in a vintage steamer trunk and larger jigsaws on the top shelf of several bookshelves. Once DS actually moves out properly I will keep jigsaws in his old room (which will then be renamed the jigsaw room).
I got some sari fabric and made simple drawstring bags for jigsaw pieces so they don't go astray when boxes are stored upright.
Kallax would store jigsaws well, but we mostly use Ivar because it fits nicely in our alcoves.

PuzzleMania · 17/02/2024 18:49

I’ve started gluing my puzzles together now with puzzle glue as I have far too many of them. I have a big pile of them one on top of the other, but one day my dream of having a jigsaw room will be realised and the walls in the room will be covered in them instead of wallpaper 😁

Alohagirl · 17/02/2024 20:31

I agree the ziplock idea is awful which is why I can’t bring myself to do it. I love the idea of a jigsaw puzzle room with storage around the sides and a lovely large table in the middle. Maybe one day! My husband has suggested gluing them, but I want to be able to redo them, overwise they would stack quite neatly like that. Thank you both 🙂

Devastated999 · 17/02/2024 21:23

I have conceded that due to my shit eyesight and lack of patience, I am only bothering with 500 piece jigsaws from now on.

I have today, started a Where The Wild Things Are 500 piece after not having a place to puzzle for 5 months. It has been my goal to get back to jigsaws to help with my mental health. I am so happy/relieved to be back doing jigsaws!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/02/2024 11:22

My jigsaw habit has got out of control & so I took a load to a charity shop yesterday (much to my husband's relief!). However, I couldn't help myself & I bought a puzzle in another charity shop; it was a nice design I hadn't seen before, but it felt oddly bulky & heavy. When I opened it at home, I found someone had done what @Alohagirl mentioned: they'd cut the tops off two boxes & put those & the ziplocked puzzle pieces in the box I bought, along with the correct puzzle for the box. So I had three puzzles for the price of one! Yowza! DH seems unimpressed, but I mean, come on, there's only one box...

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/02/2024 11:27

What's the deal with smeary watercolour painting jigsaws? I've bought a couple of these & abandoned them because there's nothing solid or precise to work with. One seemed to be a promotional thing for a business; I don't know what the other was. The boxes are generally sturdy & white without much information on them, in contrast to standard puzzles.

i have done that one and loved it

toastofthetown · 23/02/2024 16:52

Alohagirl I don’t think there’s a solution really, as the boxes are the bulky part, and you don’t want to part with the boxes. I’m pretty ruthless with my puzzle collection. I only keep my very favourites, other ones I like but don’t love can easily be picked up at the charity shop or on Vinted or similar. If you only want to redo most of you collection occasionally, you could have a harsher cull. Or maybe just take you least favourites of the puzzles and consolidate them to two or three puzzles per box with the pieces bagged up separately, or your original idea and you can borrow a box from another puzzle for sorting.

I had a big puzzle stall in January, I didn’t get on at all with the ice skating puzzle. My last puzzle was gorgeous though. And next I have one of the Ravensburger Circle of Colour puzzles which I’m super excited about.
