Anyone fancy a new jigsaw thread?

Hello all.

I really enjoyed the last jigsaw thread which was going on during the summer and wondered if anyone fancied sharing any pictures of jigsaws that are currently being done?
I'm nearly finished with my Disney Christmas one. A nice easy one which has only taken me a couple of days.
The weather is grim today so I expect it will be finished very soon! I will post a full picture once it is complete.
Would love to see your jigsaws....

Ooh I didn't know you could get jigsaw advent calendars!

Yeah, on this one you get 42 pieces in each box, so by the time you get to the 24th you've solved a 1008 piece puzzle. I'm off to solve my 42 pieces right now!

Your DH is a keeper @toastofthetown, what a sweet thing to do for you.

@toastofthetown What a lovely idea (& a lovely husband!).

Did this one today. It's double-sided.

I've got one of the advent calendar ones too, but missing two pieces in the first box :( I'm hoping they show up in a later box

Hi all, have just seen this thread and have a question. I buy jigsaws regularly from charity shops and sometimes, the edge pieces have been put separately in their own little plastic bag by the previous jigsawer. I’m not sure actually how I feel about it, certainly makes it easier, but i do feel that the initial sorting is an important part of the process. Has anyone else had this, and if so do you appreciate it?

I’ve never had that, but that’s how I tend to store my own puzzles after I break them down, if it’s a puzzle where have the edges separate is helpful. I don’t enjoy sorting and it’s just a little bonus to me. I’d appreciate if I bought a puzzle already sorted, and if not, I’d just mix the pieces in then sort myself. That said, if I know I’m just going to donate a puzzle, I just sling it all in one bag.

My most recent second hand puzzle had huge sections of the puzzle not fully broken down, and I just separated them and mixed them in.

MackenCheese · 02/12/2023 12:26

I bought one in a jumble sale that had the edge pieces separately which was very helpful, and not something I'd seen before.

However. I recently did this one and it was so difficult that for the first time ever I had to start in the middle and do the edges last!

Started on my Christmas jigsaws now it's December.
If edges are in a bag when I get a jigsaw I use them, but never replace them into the bag when I dismantle the jigsaw.

Just started this one. It was a Christmas present last year. I tried it once, and gave up because it was so tricky. I’m giving it another go.

I buy them from charity shops too, and have had this. I don't mind sorting, so it annoys me a bit, and I don't donate them back like that!

Samcro · 03/12/2023 20:56

Ah but when you buy the house of puzzles ones that is handy. Working out edges is a pain.
what annoys me is when you get a wasnig one and they haven’t broken it up.
spoiler lol

ifIwerenotanandroid · 04/12/2023 00:13

@OublietteBravo I nearly bought that one, so I'd be interested to know how you get on & what you think of it.

SaguaroBlossom · 04/12/2023 09:52

I like to alternate a fairly easy one with a hard one, this beauty is next on my list .

PandoraRocks · 04/12/2023 19:48

If you buy one in a charity shop how do you know if all the pieces are there though?

InMySpareTime · 04/12/2023 19:58

You don't, that's the risk you take. I don't like missing pieces, and will recycle any incomplete jigsaws I end up with, but they're cheap enough that it's worth the peril.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 04/12/2023 20:07

I discovered Eldorado the other week: a charry with jigsaws at a lower than normal price, including brand new ones.

My lips are sealed.

I hate when people do this. Just why.

Thefilmisabouttostart · 05/12/2023 00:08

Just bought my annual Christmas Jigsaw from the charity shop - they question over whether there is a piece missing plagues us right to the end - we are always convinced that’s the reason we can’t find a piece - so far they’ve all been whole. Anyway it’s meant to be a nice calming activity but it makes me restless to have something unfinished - still enjoy it though.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 05/12/2023 12:14

I haven't posted on here (or done a jigsaw) for ages but I like seeing the thread pop up again. Picked this up yesterday in a charity shop, I tend to prefer 500 piece ones as I am slow and have limited table space plus I love blue

These are stunning. Esp the 12 days of Christmas one!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/12/2023 08:15

That's a nice one, @ExpensivelyDecorated

I've finished this one recently (charity shop purchase, so not always a huge amount of choice!) - I like 500 piece ones as I work full time so I'm not at home much! I do 10 minutes of them here and there, while the oven is warming up, the kettle is boiling or I'm eating my breakfast.

I've never had a piece missing from a charity shop jigsaw, but I have with a brand new one!

Have this 1000 piece one ready for Christmas (can you tell I like cats 😄)
