Anyone fancy a new jigsaw thread?

Hello all.

I really enjoyed the last jigsaw thread which was going on during the summer and wondered if anyone fancied sharing any pictures of jigsaws that are currently being done?
I'm nearly finished with my Disney Christmas one. A nice easy one which has only taken me a couple of days.
The weather is grim today so I expect it will be finished very soon! I will post a full picture once it is complete.
Would love to see your jigsaws....

I've got that one Doris, the picture on the box made it look easy but it was tricky as a lot of the pieces were the same colour and the picture frames were bloody everywhere Grin

Billandben444 · 02/03/2021 13:50

I love all the pictures on here! I keep saying I'm on my last puzzle as I'm spending so much on them - must be £150 over the winter and they'll all go to the charity shop when they reopen. What does everyone else do with theirs? I'd love to give mine to a local group or home when it's safe to do so.

Billandben444 I’ve kept some favourites to re-do in the future, we always used to have a collection of puzzles when I was growing up (not sure what happened to them!). I’ve framed a couple of map ones and any others I pass onto my sister, once she’s done them she passes them onto a group at the church she goes to.

I’m running out of storage space though. They’re currently in the spare bedroom but I’ll need to reorganise once people can stay again. When our oldest son moves out the shelving in his room will be used.

PlasticOrchid · 02/03/2021 20:27

There are buying/selling/swap jigsaw groups on FB. I now buy a lot of mine second hand.

TheHollow · 03/03/2021 10:13

I keep my favourites. I’m in my 60’s now and I still have jigsaws from my childhood. Those I don’t keep go to charity shops or a likeminded friend.
I’m currently doing Lowry’s Going to Work.

Billandben444 · 03/03/2021 11:42

I've just joined a local FB jigsaw group, thanks for the tip!

marriednotdead · 03/03/2021 15:52

Another Ravensburger one from my dsis. DPs turn to upend the box this time so just retrieved the last half a dozen pieces from under the couch. Enjoyed it but how people do puzzles without constantly referring to the picture is beyond me!

Can I join in too? Jigsaws are my new lockdown hobby since Christmas, when DD1 gave the family a Ravensburger of a night scene cityscape. Sadly the top fifth is all the same shade of dark blue and I'm still struggling with it, but was inspired enough to buy a few 'easier' ones in the meantime. And I also started watching the Karen Puzzles Youtube channel for hints.
That was how I heard about Eeboo, and I loved the first one I did with peacocks. I might try the round women's march one next.
I also did a multi-coloured cat one by Heye, picture by Dean Russo. I liked that so much (see username) I stuck it together with puzzle glue and framed it in my study.
Have just started a Ravensburger 1000 piece art one, of a Klimt painting.

I finished this one at the weekend. Some of it was quite tricky but I did enjoy doing it.

I've seen that one advertised but haven't been tempted! Well done for finishing it.

makingitupaswegoon · 08/03/2021 17:37

@TheHollow
We did that one over Christmas. It was brutal. We've been doing so called easy ones since then although DS shaped Darth Vader one was an absolute killer. Looked easy on the box ... so wasn't

Taytocrisps · 10/03/2021 08:04

DD (age 16) and I have embarked on a rather ambitious 2000 piece Disney jigsaw. There are a LOT of pieces - the entire dining table is covered with them as well as the base of the box and two spare boxes. The pieces are a good size though - I was afraid they'd be tiny and prove a challenge to my middle aged eyesight Grin. We make a good team because DD likes to start with the edge pieces and I like to start in the middle (the easier bits) and work my way out towards the edge. We've done a few of the stamps so far and DD has put some of the edge pieces together. I'd take a picture but the little bit we've done looks lost in a sea of pieces. When we've a little more done, I'll take a photo to show our progress. We did a couple of 1000 piece jigsaws in Lockdown1 but this is our first attempt at a 2000 piece one.

@Billandben444 my Dad loves jigsaws so I've passed some of them onto him. Also, DD's best friend was so bored during the various lockdowns that she borrowed a few of ours - I don't think she'd normally bother with jigsaws. We keep our absolute favourites and pass the rest on to a charity shop. We've probably done more jigsaws over the past 12 months than we've done in the past 10 years. Before this, we might do one at Christmas and maybe one on our holidays (a holiday in Ireland as opposed to a holiday abroad - rainy days and evenings). DD's older now so she's well able for the 1000 piece ones.

nessnessness · 11/03/2021 17:55

Well, I have boxed back up the Lego faces one. I tried, I really tried but in the end I was doing 1 piece every 4 days and just not enjoying it.

Treated myself to this one instead!

I’ve had this one arrive today. I have a Falcon subscription through alljigsawpuzzles.co.uk and I don’t always choose to have one every month but I liked the look of this one.

I also have this one on my to-do pile in the spare room.
Can’t exactly say that I’m looking forward to doing it but it’s a local map and I’d like to frame it.

nessnessness That's a coincidence, I've just finished that one. It was so enjoyable that I completed it really quickly, great quality and no boring bits.

I finished this one yesterday, a loan from a friend.

MrsBobBlackadder · 12/03/2021 09:05

@MadisonAvenue I've been tempted by that Falcon subscription... how highly do you rate it? Are the puzzles generally nice images?

toomuchlikemyusername · 12/03/2021 15:13

I'm loving all of the pictures of your jigsaws. I can't wait for the charity shops to reopen so I can get a new stash. I am intrigued with the idea of a jigsaw subscription. Must investigate this further as it sounds like a fine idea to me.

@MrsBobBlackadder @toomuchlikemyusername

I like it, it’s £12.99 a month which includes the delivery cost and you don’t have to have it every month. They post a picture of the upcoming jigsaws in advance and then you just easily go into your account and skip any that you don’t want.
They are always lovely images, I usually skip any wildlife ones because I’m not a fan of those kind of pictures.

All Jigsaw Puzzles do a subscription of their own brand too but you don’t see what you’re getting beforehand and several have been the absolute jigsaws from hell, I’ve given up on a few. I thought it was just me but I passed one onto my sister and got a message from her saying “I hate you” alongside a part done jigsaw 🤣

MrsBobBlackadder · 12/03/2021 20:08

@MadisonAvenue thank you - I am definitely tempted!

Billandben444 · 13/03/2021 06:46

@nessnessness
Isn't that odd - I thoroughly disliked that one! Couldn't get my head round the strange tones that didn't seem to match the picture. I've just finished this one (a Huadada) and loved the clean colours and full-size poster.

I spent a few hours on this on Mother's Day - it's starting to take shape now. Still a long way to go.
