Anyone fancy a new jigsaw thread?

Hello all.

I really enjoyed the last jigsaw thread which was going on during the summer and wondered if anyone fancied sharing any pictures of jigsaws that are currently being done?
I'm nearly finished with my Disney Christmas one. A nice easy one which has only taken me a couple of days.
The weather is grim today so I expect it will be finished very soon! I will post a full picture once it is complete.
Would love to see your jigsaws....

I've just done this one - only 500 pieces, but surprisingly challenging, and really enjoyable! Quite like the gold foil effect, too.

This one was difficult.

MrsBobBlackadder · 12/01/2021 08:42

I love seeing the jigsaws in progress - everyone seems to tackle them differently. Some start at a corner and work out, while others do random bits and join them up (I think that's how I work). I love jigsaws! 😍

Love the arboretum and Van Gogh ones.
@MrsBobBlackadder Me too. I definitely do random bits then join them up. Seems easier!

Frame first here, all the straight edges. I thought it was the law.

InMySpareTime · 12/01/2021 11:05

I know someone who does jigsaws from the top down, row by row. It's very wrong.
I do edges first, then features, then sort by shape and colour for the last bit.

Me too. Grin

I recently found a YouTube channel Karen's puzzles. She's a bit over the top sometimes but it's worth a look.

WobblyLondoner · 12/01/2021 19:46

@frustrationcentral How are you getting on with the Shakespeare jigsaw? I had my eye on that for my mum but got distracted by one about birds (her big passion).

frustrationcentral · 12/01/2021 20:00

@WobblyLondoner , it's bloody hard! DH and I have novice jigsaw puzzlers though so someone else might be better at it!!

Hovverry · 12/01/2021 21:09

I’ve been given a 1000 piece jigsaw and have only ever done kids’ puzzles. It’s pretty much the same all over, very difficult.
It’s taking up half of my kitchen table and will take months to complete.
Please please give me some hints, I’m tempted to give up.

Cowgran · 13/01/2021 00:57

@InMySpareTime gosh that sounds painful 😆

I start with edges but move onto any obvious parts as I see them even if edges aren't complete. I then separate by colour.

I've just started this one which is good fun. Slow going though as I have a teething baby who needs lots of extra cuddles at the moment.

Ulysses · 13/01/2021 05:35

I finished the Shakespeare jigsaw last night. It was very satisfying, lots of contrasting pieces and an interesting theme.

It took me 3 days in all and whittled away the evenings nicely. I am probably going to get the World of Sherlock Holmes one next.

Technique wise I always go for the outer edges first and then work trying to form the big pieces (in this case the River Thames, Globe Theatre and Tower of London).

That's a very topical one @cowgran!

Cowgran · 13/01/2021 05:59

@Ulysses haha yes it gave me a giggle (I'm in Melbourne and we had a really long lockdown earlier in the year but are out now). My house looked very much like the picture for a lot of the year 😆

Ulysses · 13/01/2021 06:05

We're back in lockdown so I hear ya @Cowgran. The jigsaws are really helping though. I'm a bit gutted that the charity shops are closed now as they were such a good source.

Cowgran · 13/01/2021 07:53

I'm really feeling for you all @Ulysses but yes jigsaws are such a fantastic way to pass the time and good for the brain too.

Taytocrisps · 13/01/2021 08:33

@Chrysanthemum5 thank you for posting the Sherlock Holmes puzzle. It will make the perfect Father's Day present for my Dad who loves jigsaws and detective programmes on TV.

I did a lot of jigsaws during the first lockdown so I'm taking a break from them for now. Admiring all your hard work - some have lovely pictures and some look extremely difficult.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 13/01/2021 09:19

Finally finished this one! It's a 1500 which is the biggest I've done. Took about 10 days but that's because I had various shifts at work getting in the way 🙄. Nearly gave up a few times when it was just blue sea and sky to complete but got there in the end! @Greenteandchives I think you asked to see it all done? It's very beautiful...might have to leave it in situ for a couple of days before taking it apart to make way for another...

Chrysanthemum5 · 13/01/2021 10:17

@Taytocrisps hope your dad likes it - it was quite difficult in places, lots of little bits of building that looked the same Grin

hennaoj · 13/01/2021 11:16

Pre ordered 2 jigsaws from Amazon 3 days ago for today. Yesterday they had a status of dispatched. This morning I've received an email stating they can't obtain any. :-( Of course, now everywhere is out of stock.

midgebabe · 13/01/2021 12:30

Yorkshire jigsaw company ?

midgebabe · 13/01/2021 12:31

Lovely picture doorbells . Think 1500 would be too much for me though

Greenteaandchives · 13/01/2021 13:29

Thank you Doorbells.
Well done. That’s so beautiful.

Crankley · 13/01/2021 16:02

I was googling looking for my next puzzle and clicked on Alljigsawpuzzles.co.uk. Nineteen pages of puzzles so I thought I was bound to find something until I realized that from halfway down page four to the last page, every single puzzle was sold out.

Have you all been on a crazy buying spree? Grin
