It's iconic but I've never watched them all, not sure why, but have just seen occasional episodes.

In need of some light relief, I thought I'd have a go at watching them from the beginning. I only made it half way through the first episode.

Even if you leave aside the casual racism and sexism that was of its time, the Del Boy/Rodney relationship is abusive, not funny, isn't it?

@MadameBlobby

The one where they have the knock off satellite dish from Heathrow 🤣🤣
Gatwick

We often quote Del's French phrases in our family. My mum in particular finds it hilarious if she stays in a hotel that provides a "bonnet de douche" Grin

Has anyone mentioned the one where boysie pretends to be a doctor ? They are foiling some con men and he has to pretend to deal with a heart attack victim ( or such like).
I laughed for days the first time I watched it when he tried to get through the crowd of onlookers by shouting at them to move and " let the dog see the rabbit " . The thought of a doctor saying that still makes me laugh out loud every time I see it.
It is on a par for me with that classic moment in Minders Murder on the Orient Express episode when Arthur nearly falls and declares that he has been ejaculated ! I am laughing out loud just thinking of it !

Actually properly laughing out loud on my own here.

CovidCarol · 22/12/2020 10:11

let the dog see the rabbit
🤣😂

What about the Fatal attraction one - 'Fatal Extraction' when Del comes back in the flat and thinks the stalker dentist receptionist is boiling Damien's hamster but it's Uncle Albert's pants 🤣

MadameBlobby · 22/12/2020 10:19

Ah so it was BadLad

IRememberMySpaceBabe · 22/12/2020 10:20

And let’s not forget Rodney’s ‘Rooney’ bracelet that Del gets him for his birthday....

Floralnomad · 22/12/2020 10:24

It has some funny moments , the Uncle Albert episodes are definitely better than the grandad ones and the first series was very unfunny . The Jolly boys outing episode has some real classic moments as does the one where Raquel sings in the club with the dustman .

DailyPotion I can only feel sorry for you. I used to get upset by people like you but now I just feel pity. It must be a nightmare being you.

Rockbird · 22/12/2020 11:00

@MadameBlobby I totally take the point. But...

"I might be able to con people into buying my cars. I might be able to convince 'em that you conceived and gave birth in seven days flat, but how the hell am I gonna persuade 'em that my grandad was Louis Armstrong?!"

bendmeoverbackwards · 22/12/2020 12:06

“Let the dog see the rabbit”
Grin

I’m sitting here having a proper fit of the giggles now 😂😂

sunset900 · 22/12/2020 12:41

@Fredelliottisayfredelliott absolutely this! I often wonder where people find the energy to over-analyse and overthink everything, and interpret everything as abusive, offensive, etc.

DorisDay88 · 22/12/2020 13:00

@TriflePudding

If you had carried on watching you would get a better sense of the relationship/dynamic which is that Del was a father figure to Rodney as their actual father was abusive.

Sure it was ‘of its time’ in the sense of the dialogue but the characters and storyline are really heart warming. And if you watch you will see a lot of acceptance of people for who they are not their social standing etc.

You don’t have to like the programme, or watch it, just probably don’t assume everything about it based on watching 15 minutes of it.

I'm with you 100% on this, you've summed it up nicely
YouBoughtMeAWall · 23/12/2020 21:03

I’m watching the old shep one now 😂

IRememberMySpaceBabe · 23/12/2020 23:28

We just watched the one where Rodney meets Cassandra, and she gives him and Mickey Pearce a lift. Mickey Pearce is a total jerk the whole time trying to pull Cassandra’s mate Grin
