It's iconic but I've never watched them all, not sure why, but have just seen occasional episodes.

In need of some light relief, I thought I'd have a go at watching them from the beginning. I only made it half way through the first episode.

Even if you leave aside the casual racism and sexism that was of its time, the Del Boy/Rodney relationship is abusive, not funny, isn't it?

OP posts:

You just hush your filthy mouth OP!!

OFAH became so much more than it started out as. Judging it based on half of the first episode is just pointless.

Alright Dave.

Smallsteps88 · 21/12/2020 13:32

Inspired by this thread I’m going to stick OFAH on now and spend the rest of my day very wisely.

FireUnderpants · 21/12/2020 13:32

DH loves it. He knows all the words to every episode, at one point he had one of the cars they used for filming.

It was meant to finish when they became millionaires, they walk off into the rainbow, their dream realised. Its a brilliant show you can dip in and out of.

Also quite convenient that your thread is practically word for word a copy of this article I read last week

MrGrinch. That went through my head when I read the OP!

Goodness. What a terrible, uninformed article.
shamus2020 · 21/12/2020 13:35

Anyone who doesn't like or find ofah hilarious has so sense of humour in my opinion. It's basically the best thing that's ever been on tv and nothing will ever come close.

Snazzysausage · 21/12/2020 13:36

Jolly boys outing and the blow up dolls episode for me. Hard to pick a favourite though!

longwayoff · 21/12/2020 13:37

John Sullivan was a comedy genius. Anyone who doesn't understand that should just switch off and keep puzzling about it. Maybe try Mrs Brown's Boys or the not dead yet Dads Army.

OhWhyNot · 21/12/2020 13:44

Reminds my of a similar article written about The Inbetweeners how it is no longer seen as funny as we are so much more aware now Hmm the point of The Inbetweeners is that they lack awareness and are not the cool boys in school and try too hard.

SonjaMorgan · 21/12/2020 13:47

It is amazing. The episode where del boy is stood alone and holding back the years by simply red is playing in the background makes me cry everytime.

I don't understand the big issue with racism and sexism being shown on TV. Fawlty towers was called out for the major character not that long ago. I mean we were laughing at him, no one found the character inspirational.

Rainbowandscarlett · 21/12/2020 14:07

As and when the hay market reopens I’d recommend any only fools fans go see the show
It was the best money we’ve ever spent-we cried laughing

The show is what it is-it’s funny but some people will find fault with anything

It’s a funny show based in the 80’s so of course stuff that was said/done back in the day isn’t accepted now

It’s aged fabulously and it’s just what I choose to watch on a crappy day

Trigs broom-you can see his logic but still funny

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/12/2020 14:08

Don’t think I could see it in theatre- it has to be the original cast!
The actress that played Denzels wife Corinne died, John Sullivan wanted to bring her back but wouldn’t have another actress play her so she was written out.

IRememberMySpaceBabe · 21/12/2020 14:40

I really love the one as well where Rodney has arranged a date with Tanya from the exhaust centre and they’re trying to get Uncle Albert to feign surprise/horror with dramatic gasps.....there’s a lovely moment where you can see David Jason desperately trying not to laugh

That's one of my favourite bits. David Jason is try so hard not to crack 🤣
TheRogueApostrophe · 21/12/2020 14:58

I love The Groovy Gang episode where Rodney had to pretend to be Del and Cassandra's 14 year old son 😂

formerbabe · 21/12/2020 15:02

One of my favourite characters is Rodney's friend Jevon...reminds me of a young dh

OFAHmusical · 21/12/2020 15:07

Anyone who enjoys the programme, please please go and see the show when it reopens. I work on it (not onstage!) and it’s just fabulous and so funny and heartwarming. Theatres desperately need people to buy tickets.

SnugglySnerd · 21/12/2020 15:29

Reading this is a lovely distraction from all the doom and gloom at the moment!

"Look after your broom" has become a joke in our family, even 3 yo ds says it even though he clearly has no idea why!

I have thought of a couple.more nobody has said yet:
When they paint the grave with glow in the dark paint.
When Rodney meets Cassandra and pretends he lives somewhere posh to impress her.
Dell's Capri Gear with the dodgy horn!

shamus2020 · 21/12/2020 15:31

I see no ones mentioned the butterfly episode? Cracks me up every time Grin

MadisonAvenue · 21/12/2020 15:35

If it's a boy they're gonna name him Rodney, after Dave 😂😂😂

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/12/2020 15:40

Never understood why the jolly boys episode dvd had cut scenes

TiddyTid · 21/12/2020 15:46

Ah I love it. I'm going to start rewatching tonight now!

Nowaynothappening · 21/12/2020 15:49

I don’t laugh out loud often but definitely have at Only Fools a handful of times over the years. If you’re easily offended, I don’t recommend comedy from that era. Stick to Michael Macintyre.

IRememberMySpaceBabe · 21/12/2020 15:54

Another fave is the one where Uncle Albert has had Duke’s vitamins and Duke has had Albert’s sleeping tablets and Del and Rodney have been living the high life having Duke’s steak for dinner Grin

YouBoughtMeAWall · 21/12/2020 15:56

As our dear departed mother said to me on her deathbed....
