It's iconic but I've never watched them all, not sure why, but have just seen occasional episodes.

In need of some light relief, I thought I'd have a go at watching them from the beginning. I only made it half way through the first episode.

Even if you leave aside the casual racism and sexism that was of its time, the Del Boy/Rodney relationship is abusive, not funny, isn't it?

@flapjackfairy

Oh love it as well. The scene with Uncle Albert gasping at the wrong moments cracks me up every time. It is a genuinely hilarious programme. But I feel a bit sad now watching it and thinking of what a sad time the lovely Nicholas Lyndhurst has had this year. My heart goes out to him and his wife .
Agree. I thought of that scene in the lift when Rodney is forced to talk about Cassandra's miscarriage. How awful for Nick Lyndhurst and his wife to lose their only son so young. I don't 'do' celebrity but I genuinely felt for them when I heard Archie had died.

in Miami Twice where Rodney collars Del's lookalike, the Mafia boss and starts bollocking him about Cassandra and 'the bank's conference in Eastbourne

I called him a git, I just called a mafia boss, a git

When they accidentally trap a French bloke in Denzil's lorry and try to pass him off to Raquel as their mate 'Gary' from the pub, but he then replies 'Gary' to everything Raquel says.

Loved this one! Grin

I love it....the dynamics of the character relationships, the believability of their relationships, the banter, the love, the brilliant one-liners, the nostalgia to my childhood viewing of it, the comedy value, the fact you can pick a line from it no matter the situation, and the how it draws me in no matter how many times I watch it.

@IRememberMySpaceBabe

Don’t worry I’m Pretty sure good old ‘auntie beeb’ will be rinsing this one for decades, they still repeat ‘Dads Army’ as far as I know

NeedToKnow101 · 21/12/2020 18:51

I loved OFAH so much and this thread has inspired me to rewatch it. Thanks OP! 👍🏼😘

mangomama91 · 21/12/2020 18:52

Gaaaaarry

Thisendsnow · 21/12/2020 18:53

When Rodney gets del and grandad to try out the air raid shelter. So funny and the end dialog with grandad discussing the war 'we were promised homes fit for hero's, and got heros for homes' always catches me.

VicMackey · 21/12/2020 18:54

@DailyPotion

You/I are definitely in a minority 😂

Rockbird · 21/12/2020 18:57

Slater noticing Raquel's bump "where'd you get that from!" and Albert repeating "who's Rachel?" Grin

Ikeameatballs · 21/12/2020 18:58

DP and I love it, we watch it on Gold if there’s nothing else on. There are so many really funny episodes but often with real pathos interwoven between the jokes. All of the main characters have a really close relationship with each other but also work as a wider ensemble beautifully with eg Trigger, Denzil, Michael, Boycey.

I notice the OP hasn’t come back....

Cauterize · 21/12/2020 19:02

Abusive?! Grin Oh come on!

However it did get better as it progressed imo. Don't write it off based on the first episode.

Watch the one where they go on a fishing trip with Grandad.

Sarahandduck18 · 21/12/2020 19:08

I’d still rather watch it than the silicon mess that is 20s tv!

Best bits:
The auction
Damian’s birth
Rodney’s wedding
The diamond smuggling
The one with the fake heart attack con men
Falling through the bar
Skateboarding with the groovy gang
Cwying
Peckham spring
The one where they have Gatwick’s satellite dish
The one with all the poker

CleanQueen123 · 21/12/2020 19:09

The "Gary" episode is the reason I have a cat called Gary! Grin

I won't hear a bad word said about OFAH. It's classic British comedy and some of the topics and the way they were handled were pioneering.

confusedbeyond · 21/12/2020 19:10

I love the episode where Rodney applies for (unbeknownst to him) his own job.

Del realises it's Rodney on the phone and when he presses Rodney, Rodney says "I haven't got a brother". Dels face just cracks me up.

Bollss · 21/12/2020 19:28

I love it. So much so my cats are called del boy and rodders. My fave has to be the batman and robin scene.

Rock and chips was surprising good too.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 21/12/2020 19:35

An early one that's really funny - when Del gives his mum's favourite picture to a snobby antique dealer, Miranda, only to discover she is auctioning it because it's a lost great master. She triumphantly tells him her parents have signed an affidavit to say it's a family heirloom. Del informs her that actually, he knows exactly what the painting is worth because his mum worked as a cleaner for an art dealer.

'Oh, so she appraised it, did she, this Mrs Mop?' Miranda sneers.
'No,' says Del. 'She nicked it!'

CovidCarol · 21/12/2020 19:43

Yes that's a funny one.

Another one (sorry OP Grin) is when Del hooks up with an old flame but Rodney thinks she poisoned her previous husbands so they escape to their 'Auntie' in Clacton. After they've all had baths and eaten her dinner she asks them who they are 😂🤣😂

SallyCinnamon3009 · 21/12/2020 19:47

@StreetHaunting

There are some really touching moments as well, notably Cassandra and Rodneys wedding, at the end when 'Holding back the years' plays - that always makes me cry. Also the episode where Damien is born, that episode goes from some absolutely hilarious moments to really heartwarming moments, especially the ending, it is so sweet and again always makes me cry!
The one where grandad dies and del does that monologue about not knowing how to be anything but Del Boy 😢

That's absolutely brilliant. I love that one.
nicky7654 · 21/12/2020 19:53

I love OFAH with a passion!! Brilliant scripts and actors. Actually don't know anyone who doesn't love it. Have been watching Carry On movie today and again really well written and hilarious inuendos 😂

IRememberMySpaceBabe · 21/12/2020 19:57

Del (lovingly discussing Raquel during the Jolly Boys’ Outing episode): when she walks in she lights up the room

Rodney: most of your birds walk in and light up a fag

willsantausesantatize · 21/12/2020 19:58

It is of it's time, but the later longer episodes were much better I thought. The half hour ones can be quite dark at times and yes, sexist.
I saw an old Butterflies sitcom on bbc 2 today and Rodney ( Nicolas lyndhurst ) was in that too.

mateysmum · 21/12/2020 19:58

Nobody's mentioned one of my faves.
It's quite an early episode where the boys are competing for a girl. Del leaves Rodney under the sunbed for hours and to get revenge, Rodney tricks Del into going hang gliding. It is hilarious. The look on Del's face when he realises he really is going to hang glide is superb.

CovidCarol · 21/12/2020 20:01

Rodney: most of your birds walk in and light up a fag

Grin🤣

Oh yes the hang gliding one 😂
