... whilst waiting to see if the kids are or are not going to school next week and walking with imaginary cows.
@AcornAutumn she is too scared at moment, and her mental health is dreadful. So I am letting her lead.
@Jourdain11 your Mam sounds like fun, I’d love to be a rebel.
Went shopping tonight and bought loads of alcohol, planning lots of homemade cocktails, when off for Christmas. I normally don’t drink muchBlush
You said no would stop her post vaccine so I didn’t realise it was a fear thing.

I didn’t drink much before this either!

TheOrchidKiller · 14/12/2020 21:17

*Sky News
@SkyNews
Karin Olsen-Porthouse and Chris Gough tell Sky News about a choir of ICU staff that are releasing a cover of 'Every Breath You Take' in a bid to become Christmas number one
Give me strength!
Surely that's a bit of a dodgy song, given some of the symptoms?
Is it not a wind-up? It sounds like it should be.

TheOrchidKiller · 14/12/2020 21:21

I mean, come on, there's an urban myth that hospital radio can't play songs like "Staying Alive" because it's insensitive.

Blobby10 · 14/12/2020 21:24

@Sonicthehedgehogg if the rumours about gchq are true then I really despise the govt for being so spineless as to cave in to them. I’m not excusing them in any way for their flip flopping from one ‘we are all in this together’ to the next 😠but don’t think any other govt would have done any better/different having seen what’s happening in the rest of the world! Has merkel really cancelled Christmas?

BogRollBOGOF · 14/12/2020 21:38

@ISaySteadyOn

I would say what I think (agree with Orchid) but then DS would start dancing around singing Mummy said a rude word!
That's how my day started Grin I dropped the top of DS1's boiled egg on the floor where it splatted and smashed. I muttered an expletive and Mr Sensitive Ears overhead... I tried to convince him that I said "oh flock it" but he knew exactly what he heard Grin

Gone are the days of convincing him I said "oh bucket!"

Jourdain11 · 14/12/2020 21:47

Lol, I remember aged 12 telling my mum about some girl at school, and I called her the French equivalent of a stupid cow. My mum said, "Don't use those nasty swearing words!" and then promptly dropped a bowl of mayonnaise on the floor and shrieked "Oh SHIT!!!"

DH has an Irish granny who genuinely uses the phrase, "Jaysus, Mary and the little donkey that took them to Bethlehem." Actually, DH uses it a fair bit too...

TheOrchidKiller · 14/12/2020 21:54

I was not proud to hear my tiny child talking about "Farky Nell."

I shook my head & said that we don't say that.

"Deezus Kyst?" suggested tiny child.

To be fair, tiny child was struggling with a stuck zip so it was in context. What's weird was we had been incredibly careful about swearing, I guess not careful enough.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/12/2020 21:54

I'm still in favour of gross ineptitude and oportunism over conspiracy.

I can't quite believe that we're 10 days away from Christmas Eve.
I could do with going to Waterstones. Shame their hours aren't longer, I prefer quieter late night shopping and for DS1, I really do need to look at how accessible the layout of a book is for him to find it pleasurable to read.

ISaySteadyOn · 14/12/2020 21:56

I tried to train myself to use sci fi swears instead of real ones. I chose frell from Farscape and succeeded for a while.

wanderings · 14/12/2020 22:06

Also, what is the NHS doing advocating singing, as it's soooooooo dangerous that it's been banned by Saint Boris? Also the song "every breath you take" is highly inappropriate for a whole host of reasons.

I think the vaccine announcement is making the government regime worse, not better. It means that they can keep fobbing us off with "not enough people have been vaccinated yet", and then after lockdown, the next threat will be compulsory vaccination by stealth. (I actually do intend to have the vaccine, but it should NOT be compulsory.)

MissEWeatherwax · 14/12/2020 22:31

I like ‘feck’ from Father TedBlush
I even bought a cocktail shaker as well, in for a penny in for poundBlush.
The lock in room is horrible, when my DD was on self isolation from school, she came in for cuddle every morning, and she a teenager. I would never withhold hugs, it’s cruel. Plus she had no idea who in her class had virus. So wasn’t close contact, not that it would have mattered, still would hug her.
My DM is holding on for vaccine, that and Christmas is doing her mental health the world of good.

flower11 · 14/12/2020 22:55

In any other circumstances a child locked in a room would be social services banging on the door for removal. We carried on as normal last week with ds snuggling in our bed, we just kept telling him not to kiss his sister ( he's 5)

Orchid my work have brought in the test every 5 days it just makes me stressed and anxious. On top of how often school text, I don't need my phone pinging all the time and panicking it's the covid text of doom. I do the test late evening and send DH to Tesco before to make sure we have fruit, veg , milk bread. My shifts over Christmas are quite spread out as I work part time, I'm only going to test before work days. I have to log results on survey monkey would you believe. Dh said he thought NHS would have something more secure! I have no idea who actually checks them !

BogRollBOGOF · 14/12/2020 23:02

DS2 would be impossible to isolate from. Gosh that child needs close human contact!

He's mostly very sweet, but I do have higher needs for personal space than him Grin

DS1 likes his own space, but he needs some physical contact too.

They're really ramping it up in England and Wales now. Wonder what Scotland will do

justasking111 · 14/12/2020 23:47

In Italy march, April health service admitted they prioritised people paramedics didn't even allow them to be admitted , gave families advice and left knowing they were dying. Was so sad the staff were broken was like a war zone. Volunteer medics were choking with tears, I think this has been discussed here.

FFS (them not us Grin )

Just let people work it out themselves.

Lots already don't have plans involving other people.

Millions are in parts of the country with low risk of the virus, living low risk lifestyles.

If people want to amend their plans, fair play. I'd feel differently if local rates were rising rapidly rather than relatively low.

But don't change the goal posts with less than 10 days to go.

justasking111 · 14/12/2020 23:50

We're all equal in Wales low to high areas makes no difference to the government

justasking111 · 14/12/2020 23:51

We'll all get the black spot tier

MercyBooth · 15/12/2020 00:00

@justasking111 Flowers Whats been happening in Wales is off the fucking charts.

AcornAutumn · 15/12/2020 00:38

Finally, something bordering on a strongly worded statement from theatre land

AcornAutumn · 15/12/2020 00:39

Bog “ But don't change the goal posts with less than 10 days to go.”

Hasn’t Merkel done that? I can’t see Xmas being as they currently say.

As I said, the next thing will be curfew and then probably a “bubble or household only” for Xmas.

MercyBooth · 15/12/2020 00:41

If they do that i shall change my mind about having the vaccine
Because it will be the only bit of power i have left.

PickAChew · 15/12/2020 00:43

@Blobby10

I suspect that The Govt are actually puppets to those really in control ie GCHQ (who have wanted full lockdowns and troops in the streets for the past 6 months apparently) MI5 and 6 all of whom want to control the plebs more to see how far they can be pushed than anything.
This nonsense is why I'm not really active in this thread any more.
