... whilst waiting to see if the kids are or are not going to school next week and walking with imaginary cows.

I'm find the same with some relatives too and it does bring you down- I try not to let it but it is hard, been finding this more recently too. Then I feel guilty as I know they don't mean it, but irritated as well! It is exhausting trying to keep it all going. Maybe some time out just for you will help. And yes it is the longest day time right now and things will change....

AcornAutumn · 10/12/2020 18:46

Orange exactly

I’m probably getting old as well because...I don’t know if anyone else is finding this, but work tech is constantly upgrading or changing and it’s really getting on my nerves.

As well as the fact that it’s just too much to keep learning new stuff to achieve the same thing - tech shares anyone? - I think I’m going to have to pay to replace my computer. If they stopped upgrading everything, it would be fine.

I put that point to my manager today but she said so many people are having the same issue, it’s unlikely anyone will get £ for this kind of thing.

On a personal level, the charger for my Fitbit has broken and I think I’ll struggle to get a new one. Because it’s gone obsolete that fast! Crazy.

Canary Islands now off the safe list. Quarantine is necessary upon arrival in UK. Safe countries are Saudi Arabia and Botswana??? 🤔

Do they give him a DNR notice without proper discussion as well?

Are there others planned in the same series? Elf falls off the shelf and breaks his leg? Ebenezer Scrooge seeks psychiatric help for his sleep disorder (pretty sure you shouldn't have dreams that vivid)?

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 10/12/2020 19:21
Awful showing father Christmas as a frail old man. Unfair on the kids and manipulative, rather than heart warming. Actually just vomit inducing.

@110APiccadilly Great post. How are you and your new little one? Bear Xmas Smile

JamSarnie · 10/12/2020 19:35

Checking in but tbh I don't really have much to add.

My days are like Groundhog Day, get up, work, bed and repeat. Life feels very monochrome when it should be full of vibrant colours.

Sorry to hear people struggling Sad

Thanks. We're doing ok, not a huge amount of sleep but that's too be expected. She's putting on weight well, which is great. Needs to be poked and prodded by the pediatrician every so often just to check there wasn't an underlying issue causing the unexpectedly low birth weight (she was under 5lbs) but so far they've not found anything, seems to just be one of those things.

ISaySteadyOn · 10/12/2020 19:50

I hope you are getting to enjoy the snuggly scent of newborn baby. Smile

MercyBooth · 10/12/2020 19:55

Awww Bear

TheOrchidKiller · 10/12/2020 19:56

Oh Acorn, that's tough. I wouldn't blame you for having NYE how you want it. Sometimes you have to look after number 1 first.

I am a bit cheesed off about the testing of secondary age kids in London, Essex & Kent. We've been in tier 3 for yonks, were promised mass testing, but then got told this couldn't possibly start until mid-January. Now they're saying it's very unlikely we won't be out of tier 3 on 16th December.

I'm a bit conflicted about the merits of mass testing but I'm suspicious now- how come they're getting tests so quickly down there?

Is the reasoning that if they find lots of positive cases in school kids they can insist on families isolating over Christmas, but avoid putting London into a tier 3?

I have done a 30 minute workout. I might need to learn to be a morning person as i feel better now.

Good to hear Piccadilly and Piccalilli are doing well.

Orchid yes, that would make sense. Thing is, if they told the truth - asymptomatic transmission is rare - and just told people to please stay home if ill, it woukd have been so much easier on everyone.

Vallance has admitted there’s no reason for curfew, for hospitality to be closed...

The amount of work they’ve put into their propaganda, saying “stay home if ill” would have been well drummed into even the silly ones now.

As for positive tests, did you hear about the retest batch that came back from Cambridge students with all the positives being wrong? I haven’t posted it as it seems so unbelievable. I’m expecting it to be fake news.

SirSamuelVimes · 10/12/2020 20:04

Hello all. Excellent thread title.

@AcornAutumn keep venting on here if talking in real life doesn't help. We're all here for you.

@110APiccadilly glad your little pickle is doing well! I do miss the newborn baby stage.

That NHS Santa ad is horrendous. Santa is magic, how dare they drag him down into this fucking mire? Thank goodness we've already abandoned live TV. No adverts on Netflix!

Did another volunteer shift in my local library today. Everyone who I see there seems to fall firmly in the AD camp so it's a lovely few hours. We spend as much time as possible drinking tea so that we can be mask free for a bit!

NannyGythaOgg · 10/12/2020 20:06

@WildRosie
AD is anti dementor
The dementors are creatures in Harry Potter who suck the soul and joy out of life.

A lot like the "put milk in your cheese" posters on the corona board. Who not only followed the roolz but came up with their own extended versions and expected everyone else to follow.
So, we are anti that.

We follow the rules but we also question and more importantly support each other when they all become a bit too much.

We know the virus is dangerous to some but we also know that it isn't the only thing - and that for most it won't be very serious.

We make our own risk assessments, (whilst mostly following the official rules) we don't judge others. You can stay home alone forever or you can take every possible chance to get out there, so long as you don't judge others for not doing the same.

We also appreciate that, whilst death is sad, it is inevitable and isn't always the worst option; that things other than covid kill, and that, despite Covid, it is still understandable to be disappointed, sad and hurt (or happy and joyful) about other things.

Spot on IMO.

MercyBooth · 10/12/2020 20:17

My niece is 25 and works with SEN children from 5 to 15 If one of the older ones tests positive she will have to self isolate
But i bet she wont be found alternative accomodation so shes not with my 84 year old parents whom she lives with.
Yet i wont be able to go round there at Christmas if this happens
So this virus is serious enough for the latter but not serious enough for the former.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 10/12/2020 20:22

Our rates are doing ok at the moment... but we have a university here so when they have their 'going home' tests it'll bump up our numbers. I just want a brew in my mum's house Lockdown/Tier3/Tier2 are all the same to me, it's only when we get to one that I can spend time with people other than DH without having to stomp about in the cold and wet.

WildRosie · 10/12/2020 20:35

Thankyou, Nanny. I'll be off now. Have fun y'all.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/12/2020 20:41

"Vallance has admitted there’s no reason for curfew, for hospitality to be closed..."
Has he, now? And what're you going to do about it, Paddy?

@AcornAutumn
A 30 minute workout is pretty good, in my exercise-hating-but-I-know-it's-good-so-I-do-the-bare-minimum opinion. I also wish I was a morning person. The dark mornings are making it even harder to surface, as well as not having enough things to keep me occupied that I haven't already done a million times this year. I'm bored.
