I saw somewhere that the lockdowns were estimated to cause a 10-12% increase in the virus because of going out before and after.

I'd just managed to persuade my DM that me and DD were almost certainly immune from having had it already, but now she (and everyone else) has The Son of Covid to worry about with all this mutation thing 🙄.

@TheOrchidKiller I checked with our trust... positive on the home test is an immediate isolation for you and your household, then they book you in for a swab test to confirm.

Blobby10 · 14/12/2020 19:00

I suspect that The Govt are actually puppets to those really in control ie GCHQ (who have wanted full lockdowns and troops in the streets for the past 6 months apparently) MI5 and 6 all of whom want to control the plebs more to see how far they can be pushed than anything.

I'm the complete opposite! I strongly believe we give them more credit than is deserved, and that actually they're scrabbling around and making it up as they go along. Combination of career politics and ignorance.

I’m really surprised pubs etc have a day’s notice. Yes don’t they have to throw all the open beer away? And what about restaurants discarding £1000s of food? This will bankrupt them. But oh well... it’s worth it to put us into Tier 3 for precisely 1 week before Christmas relaxation begins isn’t it, I’m sure they’ve done the work and are quite sure that this 1 week will really make the difference.

MercyBooth · 14/12/2020 20:01

@AcornAutumn that is brilliant

Was a few pubs round here when they announced parts of Nottinghamshire getting tier3 who had restocked based on the fact they were outside of the listed areas... then a day later the u-turn and they had to close as well.

A lot listed stock on the too good to go app - bring a container and buy pints of their beer stock etc.

That’s why our weekend restaurant apologised for having so little food but they were right to under order.

Thank you Mercy 😂

The thread about pubs has descended into “let’s ban alcohol”.

[quote 110APiccadilly]"Vaughan Gething said there were "hundreds" of people in hospital who have finished treatment for the virus but are still testing positive for it.

He said some tests can detect genetic material of the virus four months after infection."

So is this an admission by the Welsh Government that some people are told they have Covid, when in fact they had Covid some time in the previous 4 months? Dare we ask whether that night be the same for community testing?

That would explain why at least 5 of DH's colleagues claim to have had covid twice.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 14/12/2020 20:25

Never mind that Acorn... what about the "London teacher" advocating for primary school children to be shut in a room alone for two weeks Confused

TheOrchidKiller · 14/12/2020 20:25

@Sonicthehedgehogg
I know. People are getting excited about the tests giving them peace of mind that they haven't got covid, & the argument for doing them is that it protects us, our "loved ones" (hate that phrase), our colleagues & patients. That's hard to argue against. If there are loads of people off self-isolating it doesn't help those who are left to pick up the slack, & it doesn't help patients in getting treatment. But I don't feel able to say so other than on here.

I also agree with you about career politics & ignorance.

@Zagaziga
At the start of each lockdown DD & her colleagues at their restaurant had a frantic day either freezing, binning or donating food to food banks & shelters. The chefs cooked up a huge meal for the staff on duty. Waiting for a decision about tiers has been stressful too- they don't know what to buy & how many staff to rota on or keep on furlough. Unfortunately, I don't think we're coming out of tier 3 here.

The family of a 13-year-old boy from Reading who's died of cancer have described him as a brave soldier. The NHS withdrew treatment from Charlie Ilsley over concerns about coronavirus - so he flew to Mexico earlier this year to see doctors there. #HeartNews

@AcornAutumn she is too scared at moment, and her mental health is dreadful. So I am letting her lead.
@Jourdain11 your Mam sounds like fun, I’d love to be a rebel.
Went shopping tonight and bought loads of alcohol, planning lots of homemade cocktails, when off for Christmas. I normally don’t drink muchBlush

ISaySteadyOn · 14/12/2020 20:43

Oh yes, the NHS is totally overwhelmed. Hmm.

I am so angry I can't see straight. Can someone please remind me that teachers on MN are not representative of all teachers? I should not have ventured off this thread.

Justgivemewine · 14/12/2020 20:50

@TheOrchidKiller

All I can say tonight, & excuse the language, is, "Oh, Fuck Off!" (About life in general, not you lot).

That's all.

Those were the exact words that came out of my mouth when I accidently turned the news on tonight (was trying to put classic corrie on for some essential escapism)

That one gave me the rage! I hope to goodness that she isn't a teacher. The thought of someone like this teaching my kids.

Although perhaps she is the supply my DD1 had the other day. Maybe I should ask her if she's traumatised any unwell 8 year old girls lately.
