Delurking (again) because I am raging at these Cromwellian cunts. They can fuck off if they think I’m not seeing my mum and brother over Christmas. This isn’t about a virus anymore.

SirSamuelVimes · 19/12/2020 17:25

I'm stopping my online CBT course the go put me on. Am not being made to feel like it's my fucking fault for being an anxious fucking mess when the fucking government is gaslighting me and taking away basic civil liberties. Fuck that.

Plibber · 19/12/2020 17:26

@AcornAutumn that's what I was assuming, but it was just the wording about "stay at home orders" that seemed a bit stricter sounding to me this time around!

It would be beyond ridiculous to ban people from leaving their houses, but literally nothing would surprise me about this shitshow of a government now.

DrDiva · 19/12/2020 17:26

Do I think it’s about a virus?
If you mean suppressing it, then no, never thought that. If you mean being Jesus and saving the world and being seen to be the hallelujah brigade spoken of in hushed and awed tones in history books forever, combined with insanity, privilege, bigotry, panic, knee-jerk reactions and incompetence, then yes.
At least DH is now singing from my hymn sheet.

Worldgonecrazy · 19/12/2020 17:29

The more people break the roolz and realise the sky didn’t fall down, the quicker this shit show will be over.

AcornAutumn · 19/12/2020 17:29

I’m amazed there’s no curfew but they’re saving that for...the 27th....?

En route home from mum, a lady in the shop said bluntly that her booze haul was “for drinking on the street with my mates....they’re not stopping us doing that”. I just smiled while thinking, but my dear, they will!

ValancyRedfern · 19/12/2020 17:29

I think it has a lot to do with our collective fear of death, and how its become such a taboo. People in their 80s dying isn't a human disaster, it's a natural part of life. But even saying that I'm fearful someone will come on and say I want to kill their gran. I feel like the natural endpoint or aim of the current rules is that we all live until we are 100+ in sterile pods with nothing that actually makes life worth living. But hey, we're not killing grandma with our reckless human bonding so it's all good.

SirSamuelVimes · 19/12/2020 17:32

I've just had a bit of an explosion at dh. About a week ago I was having a really bad day, all focused around the worries of them cancelling the Christmas rules. He was (nicely, but still) dismissive of it all - of course they won't change the rules, it'll be fine, don't worry about it. Well now fucking look. I am not being unreasonable to expect the worst from the government. We will be back in full lockdown in January, schools closed (used as testing centres only) and lucky to be allowed out for the day at Easter.

Lostinacloud · 19/12/2020 17:33

The way to protest without protesting on the street is for everybody to stop getting tested. No tests whatsoever throughout the whole country. No research tests, no cluster tests, no workplace or school tests. Then the fuckers could only rely on hospital capacity and can’t keep pumping out their graphs about cases Angry

I have no idea what the Jesus bit of that means.

But really I was wondering who thought it was about a virus from the start and might just have changed their mind.

When I was in the edge in March/April, people in real life trying to comfort me said “you are imagining stupid things”. Now I keep hearing Taylor Swift singing “don’t say I didn’t warn you”.

But now they will need comfort and what the hell am I supposed to say?!

This. I wish asymptomatic people would stop getting tested.

If you ha e no choice but to get tested, I understand..for work, for medical treatment etc.

Parents who will send their kids for testing in January won’t help either.

Yes. I think Charles Walker was very brave in what he said on Channel 4 news - thanks Mercy for posting the clip.

Understand

The natural human response to this is to be absolutely furious though I agree we have to try and offset it for our own health.

But resist as much as you can.

Most Londoners were half wearing masks on the Tube today, such a relief, I joined them. A few people got on with no masks and there’s no longer that sense hanging in the air that someone will attack you.

AcornAutumn · 19/12/2020 17:41

*i mean resist the measures

Sorry I’m ranting

Yes, this!
CruCru · 19/12/2020 17:53

A friend and I have both said that we feel like going out to commit some arson and vandalism. This is insanity.

TooManyButtons · 19/12/2020 17:53

Can I join the 'totally over it' group please? I'm a nurse working on a Covid ward. 4 weeks ago my elderly dad went into hospital with something unrelated, 3 weeks into his hospital stay he caught Covid and is now on a ventilator, and he's deteriorating every day. Work is absolutely relentless, I live alone so have no support at home. I'm just done.

Well, the suffragettes had to.
DrDiva · 19/12/2020 17:55

@AcornAutumn sorry in my alcohol-induced incoherence I forgot the really important bit of saying that the government are the ones thinking they’re Jesus saving the universe. Better than anyone else.
I’m fairly pissed right now!! (In both senses of the word...)

Sorry to hear that

Are the covid wards still open bay?

CruCru · 19/12/2020 17:56

Am having a beer.

MoltenLasagne · 19/12/2020 17:59

@TooManyButtons sorry to hear about your Dad, how awful. There seems to be a lot of people getting Covid in hospital. It must be so difficult living alone when you've got those extra worries.

justasking111 · 19/12/2020 18:26

Friend GP said today she's working flat out has never seen so many young people with mental health issues many of them young which she's never seen in normal times. She's aged 10 years gave OH a shock to see her. Her OH has had almost no work since March so she's supporting the family now as well. People forget that NHS workers have families that have lost jobs adding to their own pressures.
