Help with stupidly hard quiz

Each year my work does a stupidly hard quiz. There are many stages and we get a month to try and do it.

Anyone help me with this stage? there are 21 pictures of celebrities and I've managed to work out who they all are but now I'm stuck on working out the password to the next stage. Each picture has a coloured Roman numeral in it so I assume I have to use those to work out the answer...

S is James stewart...

I think the S might be Speed if we are looking for words to put in a sentence.

I'm not sure looking through the GCHQ Quiz Book for inspiration will win me any awards 😂😂 I would never have thought of it if you'd not brought home the Penguin book.

I'm sure the codes refer to words in diamonds. Having only put 3 in .I've for "...speed of the..." which would fit with it being a question. We probably only need the films that correlate to the code along the top .

pussycatinboots · 07/12/2020 09:45

Any clues on Z?

rosegoldwatcher · 07/12/2020 09:47

V is Alicia Vikander - Son of a Gun, The Light Between Oceans...

SocraticCat · 07/12/2020 09:50

U for Peter Ustinov

SugarKaneKowalczyk · 07/12/2020 09:53

Y is Michelle Yeoh

SugarKaneKowalczyk · 07/12/2020 09:57

And Z is Ziyi Zhang

SocraticCat · 07/12/2020 10:00

For the code across the top (3E4Z...) I was taking the given letter of the surname, so 3E is third letter of EASTWOOD ie S.

From the clues we've got so far, I get:
SI-PSON-CH-RT-R-A-EDO

ApocalypseNowt · 07/12/2020 10:01

I is Jason Isaacs - Peter Pan, Hotel Mumbai...

That looks like it might work. The only thing that's putting me off a little bit, is wouldn't it make the bottom halves completely redundant? Or perhaps I haven't understood what you're doing.
rosegoldwatcher · 07/12/2020 10:31

W is Sigourney Weaver - The Year of Living Dangerously, Gorillas in the Mist...

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 07/12/2020 10:33

K is Ben Kingsley: Ghandi, House of Sand and Fog, Exodus Gods and Kings etc..

SocraticCat · 07/12/2020 10:34

R=Julia Roberts and K=Ben Kingsley

I think it's taking the nth letter of esch surname. That gives:

SIMPSONSCH-R-CT-RBASEDONE

Simpson's character based on E
E is Clint Eastwood...

McGarnagle!

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 07/12/2020 10:34

I think we're only missing D, N and R now. :)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/12/2020 10:36

I think the 5-letter film for D is Murder on the Orient Express.

Oh well done SocraticCat!!!!

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 07/12/2020 10:41

N is Paul Newman: Hud, Cool Hand Luke, The Sting

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/12/2020 10:44

SocraticCat · 07/12/2020 10:44

polkadots murder on the orient express is a good call - does that make it Willem Dafoe?
