Help with stupidly hard quiz

Each year my work does a stupidly hard quiz. There are many stages and we get a month to try and do it.

Anyone help me with this stage? there are 21 pictures of celebrities and I've managed to work out who they all are but now I'm stuck on working out the password to the next stage. Each picture has a coloured Roman numeral in it so I assume I have to use those to work out the answer...

I'm puzzled as to why there are so many Ms and done other common letters, I think they're either spare letters filling in blanks around letters we need to pick out or a swap for a more commonly occurring letter.

SoupDragon · 05/12/2020 12:24

@rosegoldwatcher

All of the passwords so far have been a single word or a number. The first puzzle produced an instruction - to move on just type round.

I'm thinking that this one might also be an instruction - in 7 words; 3 letters, 3 letters, 7, 2, 6, 1, 3.

I agree. The line of letters and numbers gives a question or an instruction. I have no idea what though!

So thinking about a 7 word sentence 3/3/6/2/6/1/3

THE END APPEARS BY TYPING I WIN.

Or something like that?

Oooohh, I like this.

OhhhPeeeee can you "have a bash" please?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 05/12/2020 13:17

I tried taking out all the letters in "codebreaker" but don't think it works.

Perhaps we should try to crack diamond L (if that's the one letter word) and the two that make up the two letter word.

Blueroses99 · 05/12/2020 14:03

If you write out the letters in diamond L in alphabetical order, the middle (13th) letter is I. It was said upthread that the 6th word was likely to be A or I.

However for diamonds P, S, C (first word) I get LOO. So I don’t know if I’m on the right track.

So just put in "I Win"? (Like ' Speak friend and enter'? Grin)
snuffykins · 05/12/2020 22:23

Is this the only puzzle which doesn't tell you how long the answer/next password is?
The rest all had (number) after the title/name of the puzzle didn't they?

elldog6 · 05/12/2020 22:30

I think that's Kourtney Kardashian rather than Kim if it makes a difference (although the picture isn't super clear and they all look similar...)

Hi @elldog6 - we are on to round 7(?) now - Codebreakers.

Please take a look at it - we are collectively stumped and need some fresh eyes and brains!

Yes @snuffykins.

One suggestion is that the number/letter string below the title produces a 7 word instruction as to how to proceed to the next level.

Or it could be a 7 letter word that encapsulates the theme of the puzzle. If so ENIGMAS might work?

pussycatinboots · 06/12/2020 10:48

rose

I like ENIGMAS as a suggestion 🤞🏻

SoupDragon · 06/12/2020 11:22

I keep hoping that sleeping on this will bring on a miraculous breakthrough but still nothing. I'm tempted to try and consolidate it all into one page and send it to a puzzle loving acquaintance but I think she would think I'm weird 😂

pussycatinboots · 06/12/2020 12:21

Soup do it. We need all the help we can get.😵

rosegoldwatcher · 06/12/2020 12:21

On two pages. Hope they are clear.

I've sent it to my two most clever siblings-in-law.

ApocalypseNowt · 06/12/2020 13:15

Thanks for the ideas. I'm out visiting my mum but when I get back I will try suggestions. We will not be defeated!

This is a bit left field, but what about "typing what you see"?
3E4Z5T becomes EEEZZZZTTTTT and so on?
It would be a super long password though.

ApocalypseNowt · 06/12/2020 19:33

No joy for enigmas or I win:(

Brought this book back from DMum's though. I'll start reading it straightaway Smile

Oooooh - I have the GCHQ puzzle book but it's over the other side of the room. If I move the dog will think he's getting a walk!

ApocalypseNowt · 06/12/2020 23:27

Totally understand 😂

Not necessarily the same theme but the idea might work. It might also explain why there is no X so that fits.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/12/2020 08:35

I think I know what a is!

I think it's Julie Andrews films.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/12/2020 08:37

I might be wrong (or reaching), but I can see The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and The Princess Diaries.
