Help with stupidly hard quiz

ApocalypseNowt · 01/12/2020 11:29

Each year my work does a stupidly hard quiz. There are many stages and we get a month to try and do it.

Anyone help me with this stage? there are 21 pictures of celebrities and I've managed to work out who they all are but now I'm stuck on working out the password to the next stage. Each picture has a coloured Roman numeral in it so I assume I have to use those to work out the answer...

so the phrase/password is (number of letters)

3, 3, 7, 2, 6, 1, 3

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 04/12/2020 18:40

I don't think Z appears in any of the diamonds.

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 04/12/2020 18:41

Sorry - cross post!

pussycatinboots · 04/12/2020 18:41

OP, what were the previous passwords in relation to the subject?

This might give us a hint of where to go with this.

Unescorted · 04/12/2020 18:43

What happens with different versions of counting the 3rd letter in diamond e, 4th in z, 5th in t etc.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 04/12/2020 19:04

How many attempts do you get at putting a password in OP? I have a very stupid idea...

Yes, could you post them all, please?
AccidentallyOnPurpose · 04/12/2020 19:28

What if the letters make up the missing diamond x?

"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" uses all the letters in the alphabet, and the x in fox could be cause it's diamond x?

pussycatinboots · 04/12/2020 19:35

Just thinking, the previous answers won't really help as there was the numerical answer. I just wondered if there was a theme, but scrolling back, not sure there is.

So there's no X box and no letter Z in any diamond.

It's not something silly like
"All the letters..?.?...x box"

I need Wine

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 04/12/2020 19:48

My wine has not given me any inspiration, I just feel less frustrated about it. Xmas Wink

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 04/12/2020 19:56

It's not that unusual in cyphers to miss out x or z (or combine i and j or something), because then you can do a 5x5 grid, or in this case, diamonds that are the right shape. But I don't know why they've chosen to miss out a different diamond and letter — that might be significant.

There's no "x" in either the L or V diamonds. Confused
pussycatinboots · 04/12/2020 20:07

I told you I needed wine!🤦🏻‍♀️

A bit late to the party but I have an idea:

3E4Z5T1P1S5B7Q3F1C4Y2D3H5N5I3U5W7O3R2G5K7V3A2M6L3J

What if you have to find the letter that appears 3 times in grid e, 4 times in grid z etc?

I tried that but it doesn't work in the z diamond
LiveintheNow · 04/12/2020 21:44

Is there a letter Q in any of the grids?

rosegoldwatcher · 04/12/2020 21:48

there is a Q in array g

crankysaurus · 04/12/2020 22:18

There are currently 7 Q's but only 3 Us. If they are a cypher then if suggest those two need to match, and are likely to be in the small numbers, i.e. only one or two of them. And they'd need to be in the same diamonds.

What do you mean 7 Qs - I can see only one - in diamond g.

Really stumped!

crankysaurus · 04/12/2020 22:26

Sorry, no completely ignore me, got the wrong end of the stick.

SoupDragon · 05/12/2020 10:25

I've still got absolutely no idea whatsoever for this one.

Surely we can't get stumped right near the end!!

LiveintheNow · 05/12/2020 10:31

Code breakers is a film as well as the name of this level. About Alan Turing and Bletchley Park.

I wonder if it is a line from the film?
rosegoldwatcher · 05/12/2020 11:23

That movie was a made for tv one so probably not a source of a line.
But the was a more well known one about the same - with Benedict Cumberbatch. The Imitation Game.

Anyone got an Enigma machine?

rosegoldwatcher · 05/12/2020 11:41

All of the passwords so far have been a single word or a number. The first puzzle produced an instruction - to move on just type round.

I'm thinking that this one might also be an instruction - in 7 words; 3 letters, 3 letters, 7, 2, 6, 1, 3.
