We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

Smallclanger 111 any good? Or a walk in centre (if they are open, ours has just opened again I think. Our GP seems to be pretty good at prioritising things through the online system, in fact it's much easier than it ever used to be!

MercyBooth · 30/11/2020 17:30

SmallClanger. Our bloody surgery started doing that pre Covid. Try 111 Flowers

Evenstar · 30/11/2020 17:30

My GP surgery actually answered the phone quite quickly today, though were less than good humoured about actually helping me. They confirmed a referral had been sent in July, but couldn’t tell me how much longer I might have to wait. As instructed I rang the appointment line at the hospital, I have been cut off with no reply 4 times this afternoon as they are “very busy”.

In the meantime I am now struggling to walk some days and waking up in pain at night. I could be seen for an assessment at the local private hospital before Christmas, but the surgery if needed would wipe out half the savings I have left after not working since March 🙁 I feel very let down.

Surgery in private sector Wales, you would be having a laugh, NHS has taken over all the theatres and many beds for ops. they did not carry out. Ours has had 7k of OH money since March they apologised but said absolutely no chance at the moment. My GP said the same the best you can hope for in the private sector is a video call with a consultant.

Flowers to everyone.

TabbyStar · 30/11/2020 17:51

I like the stat in that BBC article that people living with kids were 25% less likely to die of covid than those (matched) living without!

MercyBooth · 30/11/2020 17:57

Economics editor on Sky News has just gone through the impact assessment thats been done for the tier system and its basically bollocks and says nothing. They have just rehashed old data.

TabbyStar · 30/11/2020 18:45

I feel furious with the whole thing today. There have been 32 cases in my town in the last week and we are in tier 3. Our MP is justifying the tiers and quoting all sorts of spurious statistics and justifications including there is no increase in suicides. Absolute tosser. I also saw the thing about being prevented from doing things (football and cinema?) unless you have a vaccine. I have no intention of going to football or the cinema and I am normally pro-vaccine, but this manipulation is making me think you can fuck right off. I'm feeling ready to riot....

MercyBooth · 30/11/2020 18:52

Im not against having the vaccine for myself but i dont go abroad to the football or the cinema

It will be interesting to see how this tactic will work on the poor who cant afford to do those things anyway. because they have already been taken away from certain groups for a long time due to previous policies

MercyBooth · 30/11/2020 18:57

The latest wheeze is using celebrities as part of the campaign.

ISaySteadyOn · 30/11/2020 18:58

I am pro vaccine too, but I don't think coercion is the way to go. I am for informed consent but that is not it.

TabbyStar · 30/11/2020 19:17

I just feel that people's concerns about the vaccine are valid, particularly for people who have health conditions where the vaccine hasn't been tested. I'm not even sure they're clear what the effect might be on people who've had covid.

Evenstar · 30/11/2020 19:33

@justasking111 thanks for that, I shall certainly not be putting down any money until I have some assurance that they are not just going to take my money and leave me no better off.

I am going to try the appointments line again tomorrow and see if I can get any sort of time frame for NHS wait, but I don’t want to end up causing permanent damage to my hip and knee which is the way things could go if I can’t get treatment.

It seems we have all been left high and dry, I hope your OH gets the help they need soon. My late mother was a nurse in the NHS for nearly 45 years, she would be disgusted at the current state of affairs.

Well seeing as celebrities have nowt between their ears, think I shall wait until folk with a brain come along.

DominaShantotto · 30/11/2020 20:44

Had to get my Id checked for when we need smart cards for clinical placements today - I was like “sorry, passport expired and I’m not wasting money renewing it since we can’t go anywhere anyway “

They just laughed and said they didn’t blame me

pearlypidge · 30/11/2020 21:17

Then what's the fucking point in a vaccine, if it doesn't get rid of the need for social distancing or "other measures"?

Ridiculous. Either a vaccine is useful or it's not.

Bollss · 30/11/2020 21:18

Exactly. What is the point if not freedom?

TabbyStar · 30/11/2020 21:27

It's because the best they can say is that it stops you getting mild symptoms, they're not sure about it stopping severe symptoms nor you passing it on (though various studies seem to indicate asymptomatic transmission is minimal).

Bollss · 30/11/2020 21:33

Then what is the point?

So it can stop you being mildly Ill - I mean, great but unnecessary we don't have a vaccine for the common cold.

But it might not stop you getting very ill? And it might not stop you passing it on?

So it's essentially the same as taking 2 paracetamol as in it might stop you feeling a bit off it but if you're unlucky you still might end up hospitalised.

Great! Grin

ISaySteadyOn · 30/11/2020 21:40

So no vaccine no freedom, vaccine and no freedom. What exactly is the point then?

justasking111 · 30/11/2020 21:45

Well if you want a laugh try the reface app. Family have had great fun this evening with this, DIL has been cinderella, belle, Scarlett O Hara in turn. DS his hero Bruce Willis.
