We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

I’m having some shocking realisations about the state of my health

The swimming ones are giving me pause too. From about 21-25 I used to go swimming every Monday night, even if it was minus 2.

Tbh I stopped because of the faff factor and it made me hungry.

But i am quite shocked at myself. I’ve done 2 workouts this week. I actually like working out. I just seem to have developed awful habits since lockdown.

Orangeblossom77777 · 07/12/2020 19:30

I'm going to pilates tomorrow first time to try a class...need it for my back

RobinHobb · 07/12/2020 19:33

@AcornAutumn
Thank you
I keep telling myself that it's all good experience but...

RobinHobb · 07/12/2020 19:36

About swimming
I asked at the leisure centre and was surprised to be told I had to get in with my 3yo (with my eldest when she turned 3 she had lessons with the teacher and I didn't need to go in). I was told "it's because the instructors don't want to touch your kids you see because of covid and that".
Right. F88k off then, I thought. They are not scum that you can't touch.

AcornAutumn · 07/12/2020 20:02

Robin, I know a swimming coach who was told not to touch anyone by her employer.

Inspired by another thread but I won’t put it there because the poster might be upset.

This to the tune of Only Fools and Horses...

I really hope Mercy is doing the T shirts she came up with.

Blobby10 · 07/12/2020 20:26

I’m so impressed with those of you who have enough motivation and self discipline to exercise! Before covid I was happily trotting off to the gym every morning before work and even between lockdowns 1 and 2 I went back four days a week xx but this week I just can’t be bothered to book on the app then head in when it’s cold and damp outside x my period is due any day which isn’t helping xx it’s not going to do much more damage if I don’t go back til next week is it? ........🤔🤔

Interesting tale which may or not affect where you live. A London company is trawling commercial agents and buying up cafes and restaurants, three in our small town. Are they forward thinking?? Are cities not the place to invest now?

Houses around us are selling the same day but only the top end ones anything under 600k is taking longer to sell but anything above that is being snapped up. Buyers are cash, looking for big properties with land, country, sea views. I have not seen such an odd housing market for decades.

DH and I have been watching The Camomile Lawn for the gazillionth time. During the war Aunt Helena is busy buying up houses in London when everyone else is running for the hills.

Get the market right and you're quids in, get it wrong and it's very messy.

First "other place" thread I've commented on in months and it gets deleted 🤣

oh I stopped wombling in there ages ago. It is a foment of angst.

I don't get how it can be argued that a) there's no evidence that the vaccine will reduce transmission (so the doom will continue forever) but also b) you must have the vaccine so it protects other people Confused

justasking111 · 07/12/2020 20:59

Ought to have a look in Daltons weekly to see other areas of the UK where commercial properties are for sale I have lived in that were gentrified once upon a time, of course the green fields may be long gone have been in Wales for many decades now.

Crowdfund?

AcornAutumn · 07/12/2020 21:11

just the property stuff is fascinating.

I also remember that in Camomile Lawn and my sister and I both wondered if there was a massive crash in central London, should we head there? We’re in the outer zones.

Ordinarily central london would be hellish to live in but what about the next couple of years?

Orangeblossom77777 · 07/12/2020 21:12

The main thing which appeals about the gym and police it is warm and not my flat to be honest.

Have noticed over there they are already itching for another lockdown...

It's a good job she's not my daughter. She would be paying to pick her 'abandoned' car up from the police pound - arrogant twunt
NannyGythaOgg · 07/12/2020 21:14

Having said that - her parents obviously spoilt her growing up.

Mine would know not to cross me like that.

Orange “The main thing which appeals about the gym and police it is warm and not my flat to be honest.”

I thought I had to get arrested to hang around the police station Grin

AcornAutumn · 07/12/2020 21:20

Actually if Rupert Penry Jones was in the police station I might try it! 😂

I guess the town cafe purchasing thing is assuming more people will be working from home and pottering up the local high street for coffee instead of Pret in central London or Manchester or wherever. I think it's a bit too early to tell yet what things will be like in a couple of years, but it could pay off. I live towards the edge of London commuter-zone, we have quite a lot of commuters but it's not an obvious London-satellite, and seeing houses here snapped up quickly. There's hell of a lot of new builds but we're on one of the nicer "character property" roads, and anyone coming from London would consider our prices peanuts.

justasking111 · 07/12/2020 22:17

looking on rightmove commercial under offer restaurant in Arundel, Brighton let, £6250 pcm jakers thats an eye opener, etc. Looking down to let or under offer, Brighton, Arundel, Worthing, Reigate, Aldershot, Crowborough, Bracknell, Southampton, Reading, Aylesbury, Milton Keynes, Carterton, Marlborough, lots of cafes, restaurants under offer in these places, so is there a pattern do you think?
