We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

It's not dissimilar to the people who didn't want households to mix again because they've spent the last 10 years hosting/cooking/cleaning/organising Christmas and liked that it was giving them an excuse not to this year. FGS just grow a back bone!

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2020 14:57

@flower11 thank you.. and how sad

Blobby10 · 02/12/2020 15:18

@HedgieHog I copied this from a post earlier in the thread

It stands for anti dementor.

The dementors are creatures from Harry Potter that suck all joy and hope out of life.
It was decided that there are enough of those in errrother placeson Mumsnet so we come here.

Its an amazing thread with amazing people who have saved my sanity more than once. We make each other laugh and support each other through this whole mess.

There is a very wide range of topics for discussions hence the title!

ISaySteadyOn · 02/12/2020 15:31

I was referring to here re: Labour. The Labour party officially abstained but not all MPs did. Here they are: Labour:

Aspana Begum, Richard Burgon, Mary Kelly Foy, Andrew Gwynne, Mike Hill, Kevan Jones, Emma Lewell-Buck, Ian Mearns,
Grahame Morris, Kate Osborne, Bell Ribeiro-Addy, John Spellar, Graham Stringer, Zarah Sultana, Derek Twigg.

Orangeblossom77777 · 02/12/2020 15:42

Thing is with these sad wfh people is they can probably still continue, maybe a job change or more flexibility, and they can choose not to socialise...it is just they seem to be unable to...maybe people pleasers, not sure.

Whereas this lockdown and rules and the impact of that has been no choice. And it seems, it is fine to complain about the former but not the latter, which makes no sense.

Iheartmysmart · 02/12/2020 15:56

My MP has responded by saying he was referring to lonely people in care homes! The very ones that had to take COVID patients earlier in the year to free up hospital beds thus enabling the virus to spread through some of the most vulnerable members of society. And the very people who haven’t been allowed visitors for the last goodness knows how long. Do I laugh or cry?

ISaySteadyOn · 02/12/2020 15:57

You could cry with rueful laughter?

ISaySteadyOn · 02/12/2020 15:58

Then you don't need to choose.

DrDiva · 02/12/2020 16:02

The "it's only a few months" Dementors clearly don't know what it feels like to be a struggling 7yo

If you’re 7-8 years old, you’ve spent just over 10% of your life in this shit so far. Of course they are bloody struggling.
My DS is the same - he’s popular and has no issues having kids to play with in school, but he’s not top of the list for anyone outside as they’ve been together since nursery and he only came in a couple of years ago. He had friends outside school but can’t see them. We’re losing all the social progress we made inch by painful inch since his last school where he was so badly bullied.

Domina so sorry you’re so lonely. Me too. We should definitely have a post-allthisshizzle party somewhere for us all!!

smallandimperfectlyformed · 02/12/2020 16:08

Our headteacher now asks that we wear masks even when we are queuing outside, we are not allowed into the building and have to pick our children up from the playing anyway and wear masks once on the school premises. She has been an absolute cow today and I think that the power has gone to her head. Does anyone know who I can complain about her to? I don't think it's right to complain to Ofsted but surely there is someone I can complain to about her.

DominaShantotto · 02/12/2020 16:26

Had a meeting with the Head today. Lots of stressing about how rare it was that she was breaking rules and allowing parents into the school grounds - face masked up, shown around the outside of the school to a room fully ventilated and pre-disinfected and asked to "make sure you sit next to the door".

Fucking barmy.

Orangeblossom77777 · 02/12/2020 16:32

Did any of you see how the children in US had got on with no schools and online learning for months. Big rise in F grades, depression etc etc some schools still not open...

but loads of dementors would have thought online learning for months was fine...

My parents are 84 They have said they dont want the vaccine. Its totally up to them

Its in two doses. Quite frankly i dont want them queueing outside in the cold for this, especially not my mum , and it would be twice as the vaccine is in two doses.

Didn’t some of these vote against because they wanted tighter restrictions eg Burgon?

Hello all!

It would be madness to make people that age queue in the cold.
MercyBooth · 02/12/2020 16:50

Wouldnt put it past our surgery.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 02/12/2020 16:53

Domino, never mind the breaking of rules have they actually done anything about your poor daughter? Honestly hearing about her struggles has been so sad. I hope they do actually take her issues on board and listen to you and her.

firesong · 02/12/2020 16:55

What are Ads? 😬 just wondering if this thread is one for me or not!

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2020 16:58

@firesong see @Blobby10’s post up this page

firesong · 02/12/2020 17:02

Ah! Sorry. So dementors or the people who love lockdown and want more of it!?

Well I now have in writing some of the stuff they have "available" for her that apparently she has only ever needed to ask for (like being able to type her work) - but no fucker has ever bothered to TELL her she could.

"Restorative conversation" planned with the little shites who've bullied her (won't work but they have their fucking policy) scheduled but the main thing is that the Head has had to confront just how weak DD's language skills really are - Head can't bloody understand her without us scaffolding it! They "didn't want to single her out" by prompting her to use technology - she's fucking used it for 2 years in the same class of kids without them batting an eyelid!

Full SEN review with SENCO booked for next week as well and class teacher - that one shall be fun.

I too have used the quote function to explain ADs.

Fwiw, I have found hope and some happiness today. DD1 made me earrings, DS has been absorbed in a book for hours. DH has been generous with hugs plus I sorted my sewing box and made some progress on my needlepoint.

This too shall pass however long it might take.

Willow2017 · 02/12/2020 17:28

Domino how did the meeting go? Did you give her hell? They should be ashamed of the way they have acted towards your Dd and you.

ISaySteadyOn · 02/12/2020 17:29

Domina, sounds like you need both Brew and Wine for getting through that. I hope the SENCO meeting goes well.

I am not as good at expressing it as some on here but I am on everyone's side. Smile
