Be honest. Is your tree up?

My street is lit up with decorations and has been for almost 2 weeks now - it's incredible what a handful of houses can do to LIGHT UP THE ENTIRE STREET. Ok, it's a short street, but still.

Three houses have Christmas trees, as far as I can see.

Someone I went to school with has posted photos of her FIVE Christmas trees on Facebook this evening - the woman lives in a bloody flat! I don't know where they're all going.

It's not just me holding out, is it? Hmm

Absolutely not.
I'm sorry but I think there's something a little bit sad about people who set such store by Christmas that they feel the need to bring it forward by so much. Even this year, is there so little else going on on their lives?

Pluckedpencil · 21/11/2020 09:05

Am I the only one enjoying the view of @madcow88's DH more than the Christmas tree Grin

Trauchled · 21/11/2020 09:09

We don't collect our tree until 2 weeks before Christmas.

No tree and probably not until 20th December or so.
But our outside lights are being switched on tonight.

Bwlch · 21/11/2020 09:14

Ours is up in the field.

KizzyWayfarer · 21/11/2020 09:16

We not only get a real tree but prefer the old fashioned kind that are more likely to drop their needles (for the lovely Christmassy smell). The absolute earliest we get the tree is mid-December so it can stay up until Twelfth Night.

Well yes, because we are in lock down. Or didn’t you notice? What’s going on in yours that makes you so keen to come onto an Internet forum and put people down because they want a bit of cheer?
CallmeAngelina · 21/11/2020 09:32

That's rich, coming from you, Bluntness.

lazylinguist · 21/11/2020 09:34

I totally get why people want something to cheer themselves up. I just don't see how starting Christmas so early that everyone will be totally 'meh' about it by Christmas Day is cheery. I love Christmas. Diluting it by making it 6 weeks long is not my idea of special.

Haha! Yep
Iwantacookie · 21/11/2020 09:47

Yes it's up in the loft where it will stay for the next couple of weeks Grin

Floridana · 21/11/2020 09:58

We haven't got ours up yet, we put it up DH's first day off in December, usually an evening DC can help. It's a tradition to have a Christmas film on in the background and a cheeky glass of wine WineI don't need to put them up yet, I am happy just knowing the festive time is coming. Some friends have had theirs up for a couple of weeks and I make light hearted fun of them, but I don't really have a problem with early decorators. Each to their own.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/11/2020 09:59

Our decorations are coming down next weekend

We do have a Christmas tree in the playroom/dining room which never comes down

Thecomfortador · 21/11/2020 10:01

I'm getting pressure from Dp to erect the replica fir, but have negotiated a date of 5th Dec which I am sticking to. I have bought a tiny tree for the front bedroom window that we'll put up on the 1st as a compromise.

At least two houses on our street have them up, people at work are doing calls on Teams with their trees in the background and Mil has hers up. I just feel by Christmas it will all be a bit jaded? And the 5 yo is already asking if it's Christmas in two days, it's going to be a long 5 weeks as it is.

Gee, maybe we just like how pretty it makes the house given we have to spend every evening in it. Hmm

This year has been shite, whatever makes people smile is fine by me.

PickledRick · 21/11/2020 10:26

Yes. It's been up a couple of weeks. My husband has been shielding so been a long, hard, boring year. The tree makes me happy 😊

ImNotCutOutForThis · 21/11/2020 10:27

Yes.
Loads round here have outdoor lights up and tress in window.

MrsJBaptiste · 21/11/2020 10:29

Everyone saying they'd be bored of all the decorations by Christmas Day, do you bored of your usual decor after a month? We've had the same sofa, curtains, lamps, etc. for a few years and I dont get the urge to redecorate every 6 weeks. Quite odd.

AfterSchoolWorry · 21/11/2020 10:30

NO ✋

OohKittens · 21/11/2020 10:34

No but H (husband not H from steps) wants it up tomorrow. But I have house cats, the ragdolls won't bother with it but I have a Norwegian forest kitten who is very sweet but also wrecks and steals everything. It's going to be a long month of rearranging if it goes up too soon. (Photo of said cat included).

Nope usually around the 10th to 15th Dec. I've started wrapping though but I'm struggling with storage spaces, I usually keep them in the office until Xmas Eve.

Thecomfortador · 21/11/2020 10:36

Christmas decorations aren't the same as normal decor though. Here we have magnolia walls, an allegedly beige carpet and grey sofa that doesn't impose on your consciousness. Part of the excitement of Christmas is that it is such a short period of time - to me, lots of lights, colours, seeing silly baubles that you haven't seen since early January. I appreciate people do tasteful trees which blend in better, but to me the whole point is that you see it and feel Christmassy and different to normal.

SMurphy91 · 21/11/2020 10:37

Yes! We had new windows put in this week (moved into the house in March to badly failed double glazing that we couldn't even see through).

We have beautiful big bay windows so agreed that the tree would go up in the bay as soon as the windows were finished.

Abendintheriver · 21/11/2020 10:41

No but we get a real tree so wont be getting that until mid December. I did order a load of new room decorations yesterday and expect they'll be going up as soon as they arrive!
