Be honest. Is your tree up?

My street is lit up with decorations and has been for almost 2 weeks now - it's incredible what a handful of houses can do to LIGHT UP THE ENTIRE STREET. Ok, it's a short street, but still.

Three houses have Christmas trees, as far as I can see.

Someone I went to school with has posted photos of her FIVE Christmas trees on Facebook this evening - the woman lives in a bloody flat! I don't know where they're all going.

It's not just me holding out, is it? Hmm

Yes 🌲

LeaveMyDamnJam · 20/11/2020 23:52

No. I buy a tree a week or so before Christmas- though not sure I’ll bother this year if things pan out as I think they will.

Putting up decorations early just diminishes the effect and by Christmas they must be annoying at best.

SingleHandSue · 21/11/2020 00:34

Yep, did it yesterday 🎄

Nope. We get a real one so we wait.
Also have a birthday in the house first.
Also too busy.
Also it’s not Christmas!

Another also..... I’m really shit at taking it down because I really love Christmas.

Rubybluesy · 21/11/2020 00:52

No it's still November

Sadhoot · 21/11/2020 01:45

Have you considered also celebrating the orthodox Christmas? It's in January, so you'd have an excellent excuse to keep it up for even longer! Grin

No!!!

Crustmasiscoming · 21/11/2020 04:44

5 trees? That's hard to beat!

Mine goes up mid December. I don't mind seeing other's doing it earlier. I quite like Christmas decorations. I just can't be arsed with them being up in my own house for more than a few weeks. I have to rearrange furniture to get my tree up and it's a squash.

safariboot · 21/11/2020 04:50

No. I don't know where it is. Or where it's going.

I wanted to decorate the spruce in our garden this year, but our landlord insisted it be cut down and we couldn't risk delaying, so it's no more.

avamiah · 21/11/2020 05:09

No not yet.
Usually about the 10th of December we buy a tree.

SpillingTheTea · 21/11/2020 05:10

Yes. Done it last weekend. Going to finish putting the rest of the decorations up this weekend.

Littlegoth · 21/11/2020 05:11

Yep. Went up yesterday

fairydustandpixies · 21/11/2020 05:23

I'm not bothering this year. I'm on my own and no family visiting so I can't be arsed!

Wellthisismorethanabitgrim · 21/11/2020 06:57

Not yet, but a lot of our neighbours have outside lights and decorations up already. Ours usually goes up about a fortnight before Christmas Day but it'll be 1 Dec this year. I have that week off and I want to enjoy it in twinkly splendour!

Wellthisismorethanabitgrim · 21/11/2020 06:59

Also meant to say there was a discussion on our estate FB page about decorating early, and I was surprised at the number of people who said although they normally decorate they wouldn't be doing it at all this year as it's been such a shit year.

Hiccupiscal · 21/11/2020 07:56

Thanks for replying @Sadhoot, I imagined it to be some kind of strange jump on the bandwagon SM idea.

We don't plan on buying our real tree until dec 20th, for a personal reason. Usually we buy earlier. Now im getting low level anxiety that all the good real trees will be gone and we won't get anything decent!
Will see how this lockdown lifts and prehaps we will be able to get one earlier!

I'm not annoyed at anyone putting up decs, exactly... but now I have my DC going on about "the countdown to Xmas is on!" And talking about santa and Christmas gifts etc... trying to explain that, actually, no, Christmas is still 5 or so weeks away is already giving me a headache.

I really don't understand the decorating in November! By the time we so our Xmas decs, I would think DC will be all but bored of seeing them!

Hiccupiscal · 21/11/2020 07:57

*will be bored

lazylinguist · 21/11/2020 08:00

No. It's November.

Tumbleweed101 · 21/11/2020 08:15

No not yet. It will likely be later this year if anything as my children are getting older so don’t need the same magical build up as they once did.

Not going out has meant I’ve lot that sense of urgency I might usually have too. This would usually be xmas market weekend in my local town which is where xmas tends to feel like it’s starting for me.

ChaToilLeam · 21/11/2020 08:17

We will be putting ours up on the 1st Sunday of Advent, as usual. So a wee while to go yet!

BarbaraofSeville · 21/11/2020 08:27

Since when has multiple trees been a thing?

Anyway, since my WFH desk is in the place where the tree would go, it can't go up until I finish work for Christmas, which is on 23rd December.

But we don't normally put it up until the weekend before and have no desire to put it up much earlier anyway.

randomsabreuse · 21/11/2020 08:32

You can "reserve" trees and collect at a time of your choosing at a lot of tree places which is handy

murmurgam · 21/11/2020 08:33

Our local Tesco was selling chopped real Christmas trees already for anyone that wants a fire hazard by Christmas day.

Merename · 21/11/2020 08:36

@Sadhoot

Where did you find such a service?! *@Merename*

I think this year it's a lockdown and boredom thing @Hiccupiscal

It’s just a local popup tree business, we’ve had them the last couple of years. Usually they have a Santa grotto and a shop but this year elf home delivery is all on offer. The kids love it!
MazDazzle · 21/11/2020 08:37

Usually I’m a bit of a grinch at Christmas, but this year I’m really looking forward to it!

I usually put up my decorations mid-December, but I’ve started already. I have a garland going up the stairs, a wreath on the door and a smallish artificial tree up. I’ll leave the big one til next week, but I’m hoping all my decorations are up and the presents bought and wrapped before Dec.

I’m looking forward to enjoying Christmas without the usual rushing around and the never ending assemblies/ performances/ parties for the kids. I will miss some of those things, but it’ll be nice to have more free time.
